For those who are interested, the street fighter timeline is like this.
Alpha: early 1980s. Sakura is barely legal, Bison has his OP as fuck full powered body, and Charlie is still alive.
SFII: mid to late 1980s. Bison has lost his original body, Charlie's dead, Sakura and most of the alpha kids have quit fighting. SFII concludes with Bison dying at Akuma's hands.
SFIII: set in the late 90s. An almost entirely new cast of characters, as everybody is either dead, retired, or too fucking old to fight. Akuma is in fact so old, his hair has started turning grey, and Ken has adopted an actual apprentice in Sean.
SFIV: set somewhere between alpha and SFII: It's not entirely clear. Parts of the game take place after or during SFIII, however.
