I took the smash 4 demo roster and duplicated the icons while keeping them the same size. I added all veterans from Brawl except Squirtle, Ivysaur and Snake. Exactly 47 characters fit in.
I think we'll get an extra collumn of characters, expanding the roster to 51.
So, name 4 characters that will join Smash 4 or name 5 characters that will join Smash 4 and cut 1 veteran.

Sakurai obviously got NTR'd by Chrom, which is why he cut him. He then turned around and fucked Chrom's daughter, and actually ended up liking her, so he gave her a spot.

The magazine that you're getting that from was translated. The thing is, the translation that YOU'RE remembering had some disinfo in it.
It was never mentioned that a character was cut and Lucina replaced him. It was just about how Lucina was originally going to be a Marth alt since they were related and similar, but since there were variations between them in the end, she lucked into becoming her own character.
What really happened was that when Sakurai was choosing the official FE rep, it was either going to be Chrom or Robin. In the end he decided on Robin because Chrom in the end was just another Swordsman and didn't bring anything special to the table while Robin had his magic.
So no one was cut for Lucina and she wasn't taking up anyone's slots or anything, she was always going to be in the game just as an alt originally. She just ended up as a lucky +1 to the roster. Chrom didn't get in the game in the first place because Sakurai chose Robin over him in the end.
