What are the rarest/most expensive video games you guys own? For me it is all 7 .hack games and Cubivore.

Probably Metal Slug X AES. Got it from SNK America directly at the time.

PS2 Ibara is up there as well.

Most of the PS1 JRPGs that didn't have "Final Fantasy" in the name.

This says less about my taste at the time, and more about how I was a total sucker for "anime" style things back then.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance Gold Edition: Special Edition
It most likely wouldn't be that rare, except activision never rolled out a second batch then lost the rights to put out any more. Also the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 dlc.

FF VII is by no means rare, black label or not, just in demand enough that people can still get away with asking $35-50 for it, at least where I live.

Huh. I have em all, but 7 has a tiny little crack on the back of the case since I got it used back in the day.

Kinda wish I could replace my Greatest Hits versions with black labels. A buddy used to work at a CD Tradepost and would just bring me games at random, like black label MGS and Legend of Dragoon. I think I miss him working there more than he does.

I refuse to get PS2/3 games with Greatest Hits though. That red...

Not really that rare. The Gamestop in my town's mall still has a shelf full of them brand new.
>>
>>250222473
Radiant Dawn is rare? I thought that and Shadow Dragon were the only two common localized Fire Emblems.
>>
>>250221017
G.U. fixes a lot of the problems the original 4 has, most notably you can use skills without having to pause the game and go into the skill menu every time you want to use one.
>>
>>250222674
Well, where I live I can't find a single copy of Steambot Chronicles for sale. Kind of a shame since I'm always hearing good things about it, but nowhere out here has it (aiming to buy it locally since the places I've found that do have it in their system don't charge as much as people do online; it just never shows up).

>>250222473
Wouldn't say God Hand's rare or expensive. Just mildly uncommon. If it used to be rare, the PSN port helped with the availability.

>>
>>250223020
>If it used to be rare, the PSN port helped with the availability.
Digital releases don't mean that there are more God Hand discs out there.

Emulators didn't make Little Samson a common game.
>>
>>250222962
I doubt those are the steelbook ones. Gamestop recently got a reprint in, and it's just the game in a regular Wii case. Don't think it comes with any extras.

>>250223005
The GBA games are the common Fire Emblem games. Far as I know, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are the hard to find ones. Or they might just have a generally high asking price, I don't know.
>>
>>250222496

I dont know why but it was actually expensive for a few years back in 2006 and I sold it $115 on amazon. I guess people realized it aged like shit.

>>
>>250223305
That was probably for a new copy.
>>
>>250223305
I think the PSN port helped with that. Still, I would assume the price was high for a good while since it's considered something of an essential PS1 JRPG.

>>250223375
Not entirely sure what you're getting at, but where I live, both Fire Emblem GBA games are only about $15-20 and show up often. Meanwhile Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn range from $55-75.

Think Shadow Dragon is only about $20 used for a complete copy.
>>
>>250223290
True. I'm just saying that people that prefer digital, or no longer have PS2's might have felt it easier to sell their physical copy and go for the digital one on the PSN.

Either way, they're not hard to find complete copies of where I live these days. And are only about $18-20.

How much are those out there? TTYD's still only $25-35 out here in the states, and a Gamestop exclusive reprint of Xenoblade has helped get the price to a more reasonable, but still frustrating $60 or so (this being after Gamestop was asking $90 for the reprint initially, claiming it was a "vintage" game as justification for doing so).

I love Xenosaga, like a lot, whole lot, but I'd still say Xenogears is the better game. You can draw parallels and get a little boner when you recognize something from Gears in Saga, but it's really not essential to play it beforehand.

That said, you should totally play Xenogears entirely on it's own merits. Plus, dat soundtrack.

Yeah, I mean, I picked up a cheap copy of 'gears as well ($5 complete black label copy). Just having trouble feeling like actually playing much lately. Not sure why.

What did you think of the second episode for Xenosaga? I've heard a good amount of people say not to bother with it, but I figure if it's still playable without being too horrid, it might be worth it since it's about as cheap as Episode I these days.

It's arguably the first vidya creepypasta. The rumors about this game existing have been around since before the internet. It supposedly caused people to have nausia, and in extreme cases caused people to have hallucinations and violent outbursts. The most extreme version of the rumor is that the game made people go insane and commit murder, and there's even one variation where Polybius was a government experiment to determine the harmful psychological effects of video games.

The game itself was supposedly a space shooter with lots of strobing lights and vector-esque graphics. Basically the vidya equivalent of a bad acid trip.

Gameplay wise it's something of a shock after 1, and 3 goes back towards 1's style. It's one of the more unique turn-based systems and it really turned me off at first, but I got used to it and ended up liking it, you just need to understand how it works.

To give an example, about mid-way through there was a boss that was really fucking tough for me and I just barely eked out a victory. In my second playthrough, not a NG+ just straight from the beginning again, I managed to beat him with him only landing two or three hits on me, a complete breeze.

In terms of story/character, I don't understand people's problems with it, it's better than 1 in that regard imo.

The one I found my copy at for that price has a habit of really undercharging on niche, hard to find games for some odd reason. Just a matter of what they get in. And not just with the PS1; they do the same thing for the less popular games on the Gamecube and PS2 as well. The rarest games I own:

Dragon Force (sega saturn)
Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean (sega saturn)
Elevator Action Returns (Saturn)
Strider 2 (PS1)

A lot of "rare" games I have weren't even rare or expensive when i bought them. i had a double-take when I saw the current price of Elevator Action Returns. I paid $50ish for it two years ago, and I thought it was a bit much at the time. Now idiots are trying to sell it for triple digits? Insane!

At the very least, selling half of my sega saturn collection over the course of this year has yielded much moneys to buy new games, lol.

Unopened Pokémon Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, etc. versions (I realize these aren't "rare' but I imagine that brand new unopened versions probably are worth a bit.)
Don't really know if it's technically "rare" but the NA release of the disc that has Final Fantasy's Eternal Calm back before FF X-2 came out. I know it was included in the Europe release but the only place you could get it without the internet back then was from a magazine that had a demo of FF X-2 included with it. Nobody every knows what I'm talking about.
>>
>>250221017

It's different... they do correct on a lot of stuff and the rogue class is neat but they also take away some of the most fun stuff from the original games like level down/ status penalty or the ability to generate a Mob on a high level area to risk your life for juicy loot and tons of exp (seriously surviving a mob on a <10 level scenario was fucking rewarding)

>>250218926

Great taste OP. Did you get the undubs for G.U? The japanese voice acting was amazing.

I had to undub one myself but boy it was worth it just to hear Haseo call Skeith on japanse.

>>
>>250235182
Exactly the thing that makes me wonder about it as well. Not like Shadow Hearts 1-3 saw a PSN rerelease or anything that might have prompted sudden demand for the original (and I doubt those games will ever wind up there). I have heard people say that Koudelka and Shadow Hearts 1 didn't sell too well, but that demand wasn't all that big compared to more popular JRPGs, at least back when the PS2 was big.
>>
Guys, don't trust prices on some games. Unless a game is actually rare in terms of it being low print the prices will fluctuate based on popularity.

Remember when FF7 was $70 - $100 around the time Advent Children was coming out? The single most common game in the entire PS1 library was expensive because it was in the mainstream's minds and resellers latched onto that for a small amount of time. It averages at the most $30 for a black label copy now.

Conker, Earthbound, and other Nintendo system games are currently in that same transitional period mostly due to fucking retards like Pewdiepie. The bubble will burst eventually and everything will plummet back down to reasonable prices.

Heart Gold and Soul Silver are pretty damn expensive for a decent selling DS game in general. I figure the fact the mechanics/graphics are updated, it's compatible with other Gen IV games with Gen III transfer capabilities, it's some people's first time experience Gen II, while others want it for nostalgia has driven up the price there. Still obscene that it's now more expensive used than it was initially new, and I'm glad I still have my copy.

Gamestop's actually the cheapest place for it where I live these days, asking $50 for it, complete or just cart only, while others ask even more. Disgusting.

I prefer to use local stores when possible. Not only because finding something you've been looking for an actual place feels good, but I can do my own condition checking on what I'm buying. Also the fact that depending on the store, chances are I pay less buying here than online.

I'm fine using stuff like Amazon for stuff I absolutely cannot find though, or games that are actually new/saw a cheap reprint (like the PS2 SMT titles).

One local scalper store keeps fucking up their prices in a good way.
>Xenogears for $5 (normally $30 here)
>Xenosaga Episode III for $13 (normally $45-70).
>Fire Emblem Path of Radiance for about $10 (normally $55-75).
>Mario Sunshine for $12 (normally 25-35).
>Wild Arms ACF for $18 (normally $45-60).
>Jurassic Park Operation Genesis for $30 (normally $60-80).
>Koudelka for $12 (normally $45-50).
They also had a copy of Symphony of the Night for $12 complete as well, but I let a friend know about that deal instead since I already had a copy.

One Piece Unlimited Adventure. Nothing special but hey, it's near 70 dollars now.

yeah, a lot of times a store can have a game cheaper than dealing with ebay/amazon bullshit. A lot of stores are getting more savvy though, so prices have crept up. You have to be smart with your shopping. I found a good copy of Castlevania Chronicles in a local shop for $40. Not really a deal, but cheaper than usual and a great game to boot.

Nice collection. I own a Shareholder's copy from Sons of Liberty. One of my favorite games I own.

Fake. Notice how when he holds EB up to the camera it has a plastic cover on it. The one he throws on the fire doesn't. It's the old switcheroo.
