How am I supposed to roleplay in this game again? Not even being cynical. Literally how am I supposed to get into the mindset of a character who has already been set from the start?
"Roleplay" never meant you play as a blank character.
By playing the other games and reading the books. This isn't your character, it's a famous witcher.

RPG is not always "be a nameless blank page" as a game that allows everything is a game that focuses on nothing.
I've never played a Hitman game but I apparently have a bunch of them on steam

Don't bother with Codename 47 since most of the missions are remade in Contracts and i'd advise you to not play Absolution if you value your sanity. The movies don't spoil anything but I'd recommend not watching them, especially the second one.

Having it as a universal standard is a good thing, and you're massively overestimating its price to produce. Its maybe $10-$20 more than a standard controller for Nintendo to include in the package.

It's not a bad idea. Navigating the menu is comfy. And having a constant map open without having to pause the game, or clutter the main screen is handy.
It is under utilized. Only game that actually incorporates it into the gameplay and story well is Fatal Frame 5.

What ever happened to the absolute best genre in all of vidya?
Action-Adventure games perfectly combine the gameplay and story telling aspect of vidya that create a compelling experience, regardless if that experience is valuable in anyway, it's pure entertainment. It's atmospheric, it's exciting, it's scary, it's FUN.
What little action/adventure game's the AAA release have been trash, and the only good indie game within the genre to be released in the past five years was a remake of a 2004 game.
Whatever happened to the likes of Zelda, Terranigma, Okami, etcetera?
None of them will ever beat OoT
OoT just had everything going for it, the stars aligned for that game
It's by far the hardest genre to do well, and Souls is easily the best recent approximation of it.

While I'm hesitant to use a word that has become one of the forbidden maymays, recently I've been looking for games to play to fill the time and help me relax during winter that one might describe as "comfy" but I'm not really sure what. I honestly felt like playing Skyrim again because I never finished it (got a new computer so didn't have save) and the expansions are cheap right now, but that's not really that comfy.
