One of the things that makes Souls games enjoyable is the sense of accomplishment and progression. When you beat a boss or find a secret, it feels like something significant.
So - are there any MMOs that offer the same sort of feeling? Like you can actually feel like you've accomplished something when you play?
I'm guessing "no", but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Pre-WoW MMOs were like this. They've all been updated to be more casual, though

Hopefully the enemy stuff in the Midgar portion of the remake is not as video-gamey as it is in the original, or at the least there is some explanation why there's a monster house in the slums or why there is a hostile warning board attacking you around shinra employees who seem to not give a damn
Certain groups recently called for banning straight white men from holding executive positions in game development companies. Hypothetically if this were to happen, what would change about video games?

In my opinion, that's not really the truth. Both games have extreme hype on extreme moments.
If you watch MVG League they play smash all the time and most of the commentary is just general discussion or play by play. Every so often something cool happens or something funny happens and you usually just hear "Oooooh! Damn!" But if you are going to use Wombo Combo for a generalization for Smash's level of hype you have your argument way out of whack.
Think about it, Wombo Combo and the Perfect Parry at EVO were equally as loud, but does it mean that all of the matches are generalized like that? No way.
Well for the Pros, a combo is nothing more than just a formality, in reality he just hit a weak punch or kick. A counter to bust a guy off in Smash is a lot more intense than that. Hitting a falcon punch is the same.

What is the best way to counteract FTA in a tactics game?
Pic related is my AW:DS map. I tried to balance Red and Blue by giving blue properties that are easier to reach, and slightly better defensive position.

There's no guarantee that that would work though. At best it gives Blue about 2000 funds advantage, which is negligible.
I'll be brief with this. I was recently visiting a friend who is associated with Nintendo (not working there, but still associated). In addition to Cloud, three characters, and one new masterpiece (I think that's what they're called) as well as three stages excluding Midgar.
The New characters are Isaac from Golden Sun, Inklings, and Wolf from Star Fox. All based off recent designs, and Wolf based of Star Fox Zero. Isaac uses magic for his specials, and uses a sword for most of his standard attacks as well as a mix of magic and swordplay for his smash attacks. Wolf is mostly unchanged from Brawl. Inklings have a weird mechanic with ink that allows them to duck for a while under the Ink, though they take more damage when in ink.
The stages coming are New Pork City, that Star Fox stage from 64, and Forest Maze from Super Mario RPG. New Pork is mostly unchanged (though there are a few chimeras from Mother 3 other than the Ultimate Chimera), Star Fox stage from 64 is unchanged, and Forest Maze is somewhat like the Subspace Emissary battle arena thingy.
The Masterpeice is Mother 3, though it is renamed to Earthbound 2: Fall of the Pig King

Why are the Japanese so good at adapting themes, story elements, and overall concepts from other cultures? Gothic horror and Lovecraft have no historical/literary background in Japan and yet they are able to combine the two into a game that is genuinely more terrifying than anything the west has produced. Bloodborne is a better sci-fi story than anything that comes to my recent memory in the west and it doesnt even advertise itself as such. Seems like the only thing the Japanese cant do is make ultra realistic annual release sports and first person shooters.
Call me a weeb, or whatever, but all the west seems interested in is making walking simulators and interactive movies. Even when western developers try to do fantasy settings, they just borrow from the same tired Tolkien, Star Wars, or Steam punk settings and call it a day. No outside cultural influences whatsoever.

Because western culture can no longer approach its own history because it abolished it during the 60s progressive movement and cannot approach foreign cultures because of fear of being labeled bigoted.
western culture has reached the end of history and unless it reinvents itself by rediscovering its history, will be replaced by a different one, likely a combination white feminism and islam
