anybody else enjoying mgs4 right now?
just started new run on big boss hard, act one is great so far.
the level design here is pretty good it seems, mgs 5 is no where close.
There are a few things they could have fleshed out more but this feels like an actual metal gear game compared to 5.
I love the hi-tech feel of it too. I think that is what the original metal gear solid was all about.

I haven't touched it in a short while now, but I did start a BBH non-lethal stealth run like a year ago. Things went very smooth as well, and I think I got all the way to the South America already. Trying to get past enemies, instead of just ramboing past obstacles, makes the experience so much more exciting and plain fun.

Doesn't deserve all the hate it gets desu. Some of the greatest and most memorable moments in gaming are in this game. Notably shadow moses nostalgia bomb and ocelot boss fight. Big boss return and that whole ending scene was pretty cool too if you had just played MGS3.

No, you do not. The games are pretty much purely SP experiences. The MP components are literally tacked-on TDM and CTF, in slavic environments; no co-op or sandbox shit.

Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.
Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area is quite boring.

About to start playing this. What am I in for? Any tips?
The UI was clunky for it's time and the overall design is a bit dated. If you can look past that you'll find a very fine role playing game with some great writing.
Think about the sort of character that you want to play before you dive in.

Play the fucking game. Make your own choices.
Agility is your most important stat get a lot of that, don't bother with charisma it is worthless. Make a lot of backup saves it can save your run in these old RPGs. Always aim for the eyes when targeting. You can hire Ian to come with you and then steal the money right back because stealing doesn't count against familiars. Max out small guns first you will get energy weapons and big guns towards the end of the game. Barter, outdoorsmen, and surival are all worthless skills.
