I feel so fucking lost, anons. I'm having a hard time finding items for side quests, there's some data probes I can't find. I've just been running around fighting enemies.

Hopefully you went all-in with your mistake and got the original Xenoblade Chronicles for the eshop discount, so you've still got a playable, if a bit archaic, RPG to play instead of that new shite.

Here are my newly learned realizations (level 20)
1- don't worry about all the details at once. Most shit you can change up anytime. Focus on 1 aspect of the game at a time
2-as the poster above said, you really have to Google some of the quests for direction. If you have played WoW or other MMO's this should be second nature
3-dont take gather quests. Just check them at the quest hub periodically to see if you have completed the requirements beforehand
4- buy the swimwear/bikini outfits for your waifu asap
5-give me tips as I'm still fucking clueless and discouraged most of the time

It gets really repetitive and boring. I played maybe 5 hours then gave up. The story was uninteresting, the moves were simple, the enemies barely ever attacked.
On the other hand I had tons of fun with Dragon's Dogma on the PS3 and plan to play it again when it comes out on PC.
