The battle system is fluid and eliminates a lot of the boring minutia of random encounters. Plus, most of the gripes you had about it were probably fixed in the international version.

I didn't mind the linearity one bit.
Why? Because the game actually captured the essence of a story and it's progression. From start to finish, it feels good to move from the beginning to the end steadily. No distractions with loads of exploration or collecting, just gently guiding you from one area to the next with the narrative.
I'd much rather play a linear game like this than some bullshit hodgepodge open world clusterfuck.

Been kinda obvious simce the dawn of gaming. Jap games have always generally held s higher quality. Even in western AAA, you run into bunch of bugs and performance issues all the time.
