I'm looking for any advice related to indie game development.
(From people with varying degrees of experience in the field)
Everything is appreciated, but areas I'm particularly interested in are:
>common mistakes to avoid when developing your first few games
>mobile game development
>creating a memorable brand (doesn't just look like every other cash grab game)
>useful tips for/clever ways of marketingComment too long. Click here to view the full text.

I can help you. I'm an idea guy and can come up with up two three unique gaming related ideas a day.

>>creating a memorable brand (doesn't just look like every other cash grab game)
Go on the Wii U eShop and look at the indies section. I think that has quite a few good examples of what not to be.
This game was underrated as fuck.
I loved it.
The campaign was moody and dark, and the city felt so surreal and mysterious. RIP Bungie.
Underrated? how?

This game was comfy as fuck. It's my only Anime style jRPG experience and it is COMFY AS FUCK. Man, I love this.
Any other jRPG that you guys can recommend? Primarily for the PS3?
Thanks bros

Pretty sure 2 is the best one by far
2,1,3 or 2,3,1 is the usual answer.
>Companies that want to OWN the worlds water? Pffft, small potatoes. Companies that pump dangerous chemicals into the environment? Whatever
>You know who the true evil companies are?

Why does /v/ do this?

Because it's a video games board.

REMEMBER
What are some good multiplayer games that aren't mobas or cs go or MMOs. Any fps is fine except csgo. Fuck csgo. I was thinking maybe buying battlefield 4 is that a good idea or no?
It's alright if you dont mind 3 sec animations and overblow camera movements. I used to play bf4 a lot but lately I can't get over those things. I miss bc2 tho.
>>330749745
BC2 is still active
I recently got back into Mechwarrior Online, it's pretty good. Grind can be brutal though. About 150k - 200k credits per match, each match is 5 - 10 minutes long, good mechs range from 6 to 20 million credits.
>fuck csgo

Hard-off?

So, umm... did you guys already speak about this? Maybe they saw how that baby beat SFV's Arcade Mode and thought they need something of similar caliber or else Capcom takes their demographic away.
>>330748747
So God mode? I don't get it, it's not like they invented God mode.
Neo Nintendo isn't for babies they said...
>But at the same time, we're also preparing modes for Star Fox fans looking for an even harder challenge, such as a ship that does more damage, but which also takes more damage.
Nothing to see here folks, everything is fine.
>Le "I hate romances" /v/ meme
Can somebody explain where this came from? Is /v/ just too underaged to have played Baldur's Gate 2 or something? Even one of the best written games, Planescape Torment, has romances. It was even handled quite decently with Alpha Protocol. I mean seriously, does /v/ have a problem with the way The Witcher handles romance?
If the first two Fallout games (my two favorite WRPGs) had romances, would they better games for it? Maybe, maybe not, but considering the quality of both games writing,...

Can't speak for older games but the writing is beyond cringe in modern games
Romances are hard to write and get across effectively in any medium, but games have a particularly hard time for one reason: The player/protagonist's character often can't express themselves or change in a meaningful way.
The best romances (in fiction) are about clash and compromise. The height of their drama occurs when the audience has just begun to like them as a couple, but something drives them apart, and the pleasant direction they've envisioned their story following suddenly seems in jeapordy. You're shouting at the screen for them to stop being such idiots, let go of their pride, and love each other already. This concern and involvement is easily spoiled, however, by predictable tropes and fake-sounding confrontations in which you already know they'll get back together, because Plot.
In games, however, the player/protagonist is too often a flat plane against which the (usually female) love interest hurls themselves. Moreover, being in control of the story means that you either are able to avoid the obvious pitfalls that would imperil and bring drama to a love story, or feel totally cheated when you're unable to, because you've been robbed of the control you've grown accustomed to. The games you've mentioned manage to get around that by trying to account for all customized possibilities with equal detail and narrative weight, which is goddamned hard to pull off.
A more detached, third-person game - in which you follow your protagonist and help them along more than you control them directly - can possibly weave these narrative threads more easily. A JRPG, which typically has a fleshed-out, non-customizable protagonist, is theoretically a better format for the challenge. In practice, that's rarely in case.
GamerGate won in the end.

LOOK WHAT YOU DID /V/, YOU MADE HIM CRY! THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO END FREE SPEECH!
Am I stupid or is Armor Spider really really hard? The game in general seems harder than Dark Souls and Bloodborne which I beat perfectly fine. What am I doing wrong?

I'll get close to beating him and get stunlocked by the flamethrower attack which I can't dodge because I'm stuck in the web
It's a joke if you recognize the patterns but it's also the boss I admire the most because it got DSP to dupe so he could beat it.
Start by moving towards it while dodging the webs and fireballs it throws. Then put a shield up when in melee range and eventually it will finish attacking and leave itself vulnerable for a few seconds so you can attack. Then put your shield up again and repeat. After slashing away at it for a second time it should start charging its heavy flame attack which you can easily avoid by running back to the fog gate and waiting till it's...
