Which Final Fantasy was more disappointing, 8 or 13?
I didn't play VIII till much later, so XIII. I thought that game was going to be incredible. And it even got fantastic reviews.
Then I played it and kept thinking "It's gonna get better, right...?"
When I played VIII I had liked Squall for a long time and thought his design was really cool, then I played the game and very quickly hated the fuck out of him.
Design is still kinda cool though, same withLightning.
XIII. VIII was infuriating instead.

Is this the epitome of shit? How can anyone actually like this? It's boring, I got bored of pushing blocks 2 decades ago. Have games really not evolved beyond that? It seems like a chore. Only chores give you experience and thus are worth doing. Is this what they mean by video games are for children?

So I'm making a video game right now. It's an RPG based on politics more than action, but I've run into some struggles running the simulation while keeping a smooth 60 fps. My question is: If a game that doesn't rely on 60 fps for precision or anything is locked to 30 fps, would that be a dealbreaker for you?
You should not be locked to a specific frame rate. It's fucking 2016.

What if the game doesn't rely on them at all? Is the extra effort to make them framerate independent really worth it in that case? Did anybody care about framerate in visual novels or oldschool turn-based RPGs?

It's a mini game kind of stage. It's only possible to traverse a small part of the stage. The rest is used to move the POW block.
Any recommendations for some good, classic RPGs that don't require too much moving around, are completely turn based, and light on story?
I ask because I often have enough downtime to play maybe 1 or 2 minutes of a game at a time, so I use my phone to play a couple of turns and put it back. Problem is a lot of RPGs past FFIV use ATB or action gameplay which touchscreens are total ass at.
Some ones I found work well:
>Dragon Quest 1-4
>Final Fantasy 1 and 3
>SNES/GBA Fire Emblems (though a bit too much story to read)
>GB Pokémon games
I'm interested in the older SMT games because I love the PS2 ones but I'm not sure which ones are good and have translations.
I've thought about some old PC games too such as Wizardry, and Japanese PC games if they have translations.
Glory of Heracles
Gen 4-5 srpgs work well since they're turn-based and generally only have a combat menu or basic map between battles, although some can be pretty story heavy.
Then again, if you weren't really interested in the game having a story to begin with, you could always just skip stuff.
Also emulate the SNES version of FFIV. The original doesn't have ATB, that's only in the ports.

Sadly I think most PC rpgs like Might and Magic, Eye of the Beholder, Path of Radiance and so on are out of question for you.
Idea: Celebrity stalker simulator
Stealth-based gameplay based on taking photos of a celebrity, following them around without being noticed, and maybe they could make you play as a full-on psycho and try to murder him/her by the end?
