anon you responded to here. I never had anything against fanfiction, just never felt a need to take a look before. I didn't even ship before RWBY so I'm new to this whole aspect of fandoms.
I think fanfiction is pretty cool and that authors should feel less intimidated by fanfics of their works. If my writing inspired a group of people so much they felt compelled to write themselves, then I would feel pretty badass.
Problem is that some folks just don't care that much about their writing. They push something out without even a token revision process and the writing is barely readable. The content can be fine, but doesn't mean much when I can't actually understand the content.

Fanfiction is also much harder to write than most would assume imho. Yes, designing an original plot, setting; and characters can be challenging, but it's much easier to be consistent. It's your ideas, so as long as you keep your ideas in order it is relatively easier to create a unified work that comes together nicely.
Fanfiction requires that you are using ideas from someone else. Not only is it basically impossible to keep everyone in character, but what is "in character" is going to depend on the fan so you are never going to please everyone.
There's also the fact that when people think fanfic the first thing that comes to mind is terribly written ikea style porn fics by people that aren't remotely interested or payed attention to the actual show's plot (like the much hated high school AU fic. What's the fucking point). But also tend to be fics shipping characters that not only aren't remotely implied to be into each other, but half the time haven't even met or interacted in show at all usually because the shipper thinks they look cute together.

Yang is the opposite of mature. She's childish. That's why she's always screwing around and half-assing things and why her solution to things not working is to get angry and run headlong into things swinging harder.
Weiss really isn't naive or socially awkward, she's just more used to dealing with people in a high culture environment and so has trouble with a few random things (like the card game) or . She has absolutely no problem meeting with new people, nor does she show any signs of being uncomfortable when doing so (Neptune, Pyrrha, Penny, etc).

It could (and likely will) go in that direction, sure. But it's a really bland and in my opinion, initially forced, choice. There's not much about them personality wise that makes it an alluring romantic match. Personally I find mono to be the most realistic and natural pairing of team RWBY, but I'm fairly sure if any of them does happen, it will probably be BB, unfortunately.

Also, Weiss *is* pretty awkward with any other people. She's just used to them being dishonest and she's lonely (literally the entire fucking lyrics of Mirror Mirror), which is why she looks for the ulterior motive in them and she acts like an ass. I mean, she tried to use Pyrrha in order to be the best at Beacon.
I don't see how Monochrome is anything close of a natural pairing. Yes, it's clearly not shoehorned, but it's for that very reason that it doesn't make any sense. You could say there's an appeal to the love-hate part of it, but Blake and Weiss don't really talk that much either. More than Blake and Yang, but they still don't get along at all.
Also, guess what anon, yes, the go-to canon pairing is generally shoehorned, because it makes sense that it's going to be this one. Just like most people expect Chitoge to be the endgame in Nisekoi, and just like despite the harem, Naru was still the endgame in Love Hina. I don't see how the prospect of canon Bumblebee is unfortunate.

No idea what you're talking about. They have literally zero problem with each other post Black and White, they get along quite well actually. From what we've seen so far, Blake is absolutely the person Weiss is closest to on the team. She only talks to yang one on one that single time in V1, and throughout V3 her dialogue with Ruby is still fairly annoyed most of the time, though no longer genuinely hostile like it was in early V1.

It's unfortunate because following shitty tropes is not a good reason for something to happen. It's unfortunate that, rather than pursue the higher quality, more natural route, they'll go the shoehorned generic path because "it's expected" and there is demand for it.

just because you don't like a ship doesn't make your opinion suddenly fact. Besides, Weiss still hasn't finished maturing yet. She still has unresolved issues of racism. The only progress she has made is that she is no longer openly disgusted at faunus she personally knows. Though I fully expect Volume 4 to be when she resolves this particular flaw and she did make a lot of progress in Volume 3. Nonetheless, Blake and Weiss still have an underlying conflict between them. They just agreed to set it aside since they are teammates. Volume 4, I expect will set them up to resolve their differences for good, but it might be something they do in their own, separate story arcs. Then resolve for good once they reunite.
Volume 3 changes a lot about the relationship between Blake and Yang. Blake comparing Yang to Adam. Yang's near breakdown at Blake's distrust. The sacrificial act by Yang for Blake and Blake's reaction to the aftermath of that sacrifice. These moments are not just shippy either. These are plot relevant, high impact scenes. Blake worrying about Yang showing signs of an early Adam has big implications for the direction of the story. Raven's apparent connection to Adam and the White Fang and Yang being the only main character to meet Adam face to face besides Blake is also a pretty big deal. You can't dismiss all their scenes together and then claim the story is forced.

Blake and Yang have some of the most emotionally intensive scenes of the series proper, starting in Volume 2. Only Pyrrha and Jaune's scenes matches or surpasses their scenes. What they lack in volume they make up in intensity and impact. Yang is the only character that successfully pushes Blake out of her depressive state. Weiss and Blake don't have anything to really match. Coffee and tea just doesn't hold any weight to Yang having a near breakdown at Blake's hesitant response.
And Weiss isn't prefect mate. She doesn't understand what it means to be poor or oppressed at all. She has yet to openly accept that the faunus have been wronged by her family and their company. Though once again, Volume 4 will certainly change that. She said without any irony that she is the victim because second class citizens took issue with her family when she likely already knew her father wasn't completely innocent. This is also ignoring her tendency to overreact prior to Volume 3. She treated people like dirt and was a self-entitled brat for almost the entire first volume. Yang meanwhile only took issue with Blake in their first scene together because Blake was acting a bit rude. Then when they meet again in the forest they act as if they never had any issue in the first place. Hardly immature by any standard.

Yes, RT are pretty obvious when it comes to their foreshadowing, and no, subtlety isn't a bad thing. But when they have set a low standard of subtlety, they sure aren't suddenly going to subvert it because anon likes Monochrome better. It doesn't make the show any worse either way.
A pairing actually comes out of nowhere or of overly tight goggles is actually the instance of bad writing; it's called Strangled by the Red String and it's generally not something that sits well with the fans.
Also just because you don't like the pairing doesn't mean you have your say over what's okay in canon and what's not; that's lowkey trying to start a ship war here.

Again, there's really nothing to suggest this. We've seen absolutely no conflict between the two of them since V1. I don't know why you'd make this assumption with no evidence at all. There is less conflict remaining between them than there is between Weiss and Ruby.

What sacrificial act? Blake is the one who tried to sacrifice herself by standing between Adam and Yang while injured. Yang just got angry and charged in against an unknown opponent and got shut down, that's being hot tempered and reckless not sacrificing yourself.

Sure, I agree. But we also saw just as plot relevant, high impact scenes between Blake and Weiss in V1. I don't know why you'd bring up Raven, who we know literally nothing about yet, but you act like Weiss herself doesn't have an already established, far more intimate connection to the White Fang. This was kinda my point about forced vs natural. Weiss already had these natural connections to Blake. Yang's connections are, "She happened to be the one who went after Blake and ran into Adam because Weiss was already exhausted from fighting".

Kinda my whole point. I agree that BB will end up being the canon ship, as I pointed out here >>2082086 but It's my opinion that this is precisely because RT's writing isn't very good. I don't trust in their abilities enough that they'll realize they already created an interesting and natural dynamic between two characters, and so it is likely that they will continue to push this BB angle with purely chance interactions like the whole Adam scene (which again just happened to be Yang at the moment, Blake would have likely freaked out over anyone from RWBY showing up at that moment, and Adam would have attacked any of the three of them).
For instance, Yang will probably be the one to run into Blake first. She will probably just be traveling and training or whatever, and happen to run randomly into Blake somewhere leading to a confrontation between them and further developing their relationship. A better and less "They happened to meet, teehee." route would have been Blake deciding to stop running and working on stopping down the White Fang's operations, which would have pretty naturally led her to the chance to run into Weiss, since the Schnees and their factories/mines/everything are generally very bright red targets for the White Fang.
That is the sort of natural connection leading to natural development that I do not expect from RT's writing.

I feel like Yang developed maturity she'd never normally have because she had to mother Ruby, and it conflicts with her base personality, which is quite frankly, a childish brutish kind of jerk hidden with a layer of friendlyness and snark. She's basically a few bad days away from being Mercury.
As a result she beats up a bar for kicks and gets amusement at how much stronger she is and how they're afraid of her one minute, and goes into mother hen mode the next.
It's why her first instinct when Mercury apparantly cheap shotted her was to maim and mock him and expect to get away with it because he broke the rules instead of just dodging or tanking the hit and letting the authorities deal with him.
She even says she's only a Huntress because it's the fasted route to being strong and going out into the world without having to be a criminal.
If Summer never died or Raven never left she'd probably be a very dark character.

Because Monty focused on rule of cool over story. When Vol 2 and 3 came out they weakened all the good guys accordingly both to show that Beacon lessons aren't as effective as hard living out in the Grimm infested world, and so that they'd fail 10 times in a row to ensure Beacon was lost and the cast would have to leave it so they could start going to other parts of Remnant.

In the Red Trailer Ruby was just slicing up Beowulves. Now she's teleporting and flying around while soloing stuff she needed a team for so there's definitely a power increase.

If this is the case, why do both she and Winter have asymmetrical hairstyles when they are young (before they are rebelling)? Even if we consider that just a manga slip up, it's a pretty silly idea. Her way of rebelling is to move her hair slightly off-center? She defied her father's wishes, fought a massive suit of armor possessed by a grimm and ran a continent away, and that's her expression of rebellion?

Ruby is probably the least likely to see any member of her team this volume. She's headed towards a city on the other side of a content and ocean. At least the others are all somewhat clustered near Vytal.
Weiss is going to be stuck in Atlas and if someone is going to go show up or run into her, it will be Yang once re-motivated or Blake, not Ruby who's actively pursuing something super far away with a team.

V4 is almost guaranteed to be a clusterfuck that will struggle to progress any one character's plot, since they now have AT LEAST 4 different stories to tell (one for each girl, and this isn't even counting side stuff like Qrow or the villians), which is really not helped by the lack of total screentime that has been a problem since day 1.
I can see them largely ignoring either Blake or Yang for a large portion of the volume to make room. Questions about Yang could be hand-waved away with "not much has changed," and Blake as "she's in hiding." Both would be equally irritating, but they wrote themselves into their own hole.
Weiss is likely to get a lot of time because of all the foreshadowing about her father, and they'll want to explore that.
