Let's start with a classic.
Marimite is probably pretty good from a purely objective standpoint, as a high school drama. But I'm still mad that I sat through four seasons of it, expecting some romance and getting nothing. Especially when the subtext was so heavy. Especially when there was a flashback episode where Sei was literally fucking cucked by the virgin mary.
When I finished watching this goddamn thing I felt almost as trolled as I did when I finished yamibou.
And while we're on the subject, Yamibou.
I dare you to find an ending to any anime that's more trollish than this. Literally "Oh, you found me, darling. Don't worry, I'll be reborn as your child in a decade or so. See you!"
Just seeing the goddamn poster triggers me.

Why are there giant robots? Why is there flute rape? Why is it so goddamn edgy? Why is Himeko such a shit character?
I mean, I guess it gets props for (maybe) having the two main characters get together in the 5 second long flash forward epilogue, but that doesn't excuse the rest of the show from being shit.

Strawberry Panic I actually like, but I can still appreciate the fact that it's objectively bad. It's incredibly cliché, in fact it's so cliché that I was bothered by it when I first watched it, and it was the second or third anime I ever watched.

I feel calling this "shitty" might be going too far but the mech battles certainly were.
I actually like mechs (when they are not a joke) but that shit was just dumb as hell. Turning into a giant rocket fist or launching a ball of energy and then kicking it at the enemy... why?
Also ticked me off that despite the massive amount of destruction and slaughter people kept going to school the next day. One villain was shown bombing buildings at random, even things like temples, and it seemed like people didn't notice.
I mostly enjoyed the other bits but I would find it hard to recommend. Seems like a lot of people consider it a classic or something to hold other yuri up to which I don't understand personally.

I gave up on Strawberry Panic 10 episodes in because it was dragging, but I might go back to it one day since it wasn't awful. Marimite just made me sad. I'm unsure on where I stand with Maria+Holic. It's not fully /u/ and I get exhausted after watching a few episodes in a row. I don't think Shaft would even be capable of producing a quality yuri show that isn't pure subtext.
