Hibiki herself pretty much lost protagonist status for most of the show. Hell, she didn't even get to be a cool main character; she just gets hospitalized repeatedly and then where everyone else at least gets a revenge match (of admittedly varying quality), she just gets group credit in the finale. Everything else is pretty much just symptomatic of that.
Getting rid of fusion was a mistake. Hibiki needs something to make her unique and cool again.

I made a big post yesterday on /m/ a bit related to that. KR probably ordered Kaneko to introduce a lot of songs for the Gears and he didn't know how to do it in a good way so he invented those "doll of the week" episodes to give every character an episode even if the plot was pointless (Chris's muh kouhais) so they sing their song at the end of the episode. It was generic and bad. But well, let's pray for the next season to be good, to not have topdad more than 5 minutes in the first 2 episodes and good development of the characters.I really like G so I would be happy with a season like G again with yuri and a charismatic villain like based Ver but I know that some people didn't like it but I'm sure most of them would like another G before another GX

The thing about Chris was that it could have worked - actually it could have worked really well. It just needed to be told through actual character interaction, with her slowly realizing how she's becoming protective of someone else, rather than being protected. It'd be all representative of how she overcame her angst about the past in G's finale and stuff and is finally moving forward rather than obsessing about her regrets. The problem was how everything was forced into battles, regardless of whether the issue makes any sense being sharply developed in that context.
That's kind of the whole problem with GX in a nutshell - it needed to know when to dial back the action and have some serious downtime and development. Without that supporting it, it just collapses. It started off seeming really exciting, but without that support, there's nothing there to care about. It started off really bold and dark, but without slowing down and letting development catch up to the bold start, it just became stale. It needed to have all that excitement actually mean something, and even G at its most glaringly style-over-substanceness wasn't as meaningless as most of GX. Looking at you there, Ignite Mode. Fuck, that thing actually managed to make Berserker, something genuinely ominous from the previous seasons, feel retroactively cartoonish.
Give me bold or cool or special or surprising developments, not just another powerup. I don't think anyone really wants to see "Miku is a Custodian" or whatever the latest one is, but it reflects some kind of need to see something big and fundamental happen, as the start seemed to promise.
In short, King Records need to fuck off. I'm sure Nana can shift CDs pretty well even without a battle making up the meat of every single episode regardless of whether the pacing calls for one or not. Basically, give me the first season's pacing and direction with the first couple of GX episodes' high notes (but actually build on and support them).

G, for its failings, did put forth good enough justification for each character getting their songs each week. I think they will be in a unique position for S4 (it's amazing that we may even get it) since the FIS gears are fully integrated into the main squad so I'll certainly give them another shot. The Kirika/Shirabe episode leading up to Bayonet Charge was a modern yuri masterpiece though, in my opinion. Also: reminder that there was a yuri kiss I'm this show, but it was wasted on a plot device between characters we barely cared about. I would love if Miku and Hibiki started next season by at least kissing and embarrassing Chris-senpai on the first day of school.

I am really not looking forward rward to him being in the next season. They didn't even give her damn mom a role before he became this super important presence in her life. What about her grandma who comforted her and kept her safe for years (to say nothing of Miku)? If they didn't want to focus on them for the sake of gender balance of their characters, then give Tsubasa's fatherbrother a bigger role along with Gen and Ogawa- characters we already like or are at least significant.

I had a sinking feeling something like this might've happened behind the scenes, since this show relies heavily on the CD division for income.
GX really felt like its lost the flair that the first 2 seasons had, because Hibiki wasn't allowed to be a proper protagonist, due to her screen time being cut, in favor of the CD sellers.
It's possible that Miku also got sideshowed because her CD in G sold the least compared to the others. Can someone fact check me on that?

Thing is we have to count digital sales too now. If I'm not wrong geahs CD should be available for digital sales since GX. And oricon do not report digital sales, oricon is pretty shit actually.
While I'm more than okay blaming KR for the bad stuff, they're just one of the sponsors. They got to sell CD and that's enough for them. Sponsors don't get to mess with the story. Story is anime staff responsibility. Though they might have a say on who should get a CD they don't really get involved with story planning and development. If they did then most of the song we heard on GX wouldn't be cut after just 30 seconds in.

Not sure what the sales are like now, but Miku's CD sales were about 12,000 on release, about 1000 behind Kirika's, but thats due to Kirika's CD being out two additional weeks (Kirika CD Vol 7, Miku was 8), not due to Kirika's songs being more popular than Miku's.
I dont think Kings Records are the reason for GX's shortcomings, as >>1956555 said they are just sponsor and im pretty sure they are more than happy since Symphogear's CD sales have always been strong. The problem I believe is that Kaneko is a bad writer, or at least bad at knowing what part of Symphogear is it that people enjoy. He may have made a great first season (with Agematsu's ideas), but at the very least I dont think he knows how to (or possibly desires to) continue Symphogear. I personally would be more than happy to see him take a step back and let someone else write the story.

Kaneko is not necessarily a bad writer, he did amazing work writing Wild Arms in the past, I think the issue is that he isn't good at writing for short 13 episode anime seasons. Give him a full length symphogear RPG or a 24 episode season and it would probably turn out amazing. But as is, beyond the first season which was a contained start up season for the franchise, now that he has free reign to do whatever in the seasons I think he has trouble cutting back and adding in too much.
Though I do agree with you if that's solved by having someone else write the season while Kaneko comes up with the ideas so be it. I just want another season of Symphogear that doesn't make the fandom fight eachother over.

Kaneko is a vidya writer, and GX just goes to show that what works in one medium (sequential bosses, character arcs as individual sidequests) doesn't necessarily work in another.

I can't say that I agree with that, it's pretty clear that he has been going downward in quality for a while now. I can't chalk that up to a change in narrative medium since the rate of decay is actually progressing as the franchise rolls on.
If anything Kaneko seems to be running out of ideas, given that GX simply retreaded elements of character development.

I don't know how helpful any advice I can give you be, but personally I find explicit use of those kinds of words for body parts during sex to be rather jarring.Then I remember that these are fapfics.Sometimes using allusions to describe the activities or sensations can work just fine. I do like your descriptions on reactions, though.
Additionally, I think I notice a trend in your writing style in which you kinda jump POVs a lot, unless you're purposely going for third-person omniscient. A limited perspective centering on one character should generally make the story more...cohesive? Intimate maybe. And not so jumbled.
Other than that, keep up the good work! We need more geah fic and I'm not about to reject one of the few writers who consistently pump something out for us. Thanks, man.

Thanks! Yeah, I know I can definitely work on finding other ways of talking about genitals than just running the rotation of "pussy," "vagina," and "entrance" all the time. I'm just not certain /how/ at the moment.
The POV jumping is on purpose, though I could probably make it a bit smoother with a little effort. I like to do bits from each girls' perspective because I know the people reading it have varying tastes in geahs (particularly on /m/, where there seems to be a much higher concentration of chrisfags than I've noticed in my few trips here), so I like to make sure everyone gets their moments of focus in turn. Trying a story from a limited perspective would be interesting, though. I sorta did that in Exhichrisionism but the vast majority of that only had one character anyways.

I'm not well-versed in writing lewdfic, but I find it sometimes helps to read NSFW stories by other writers (most likely from other fandoms, since our is very small English-wise) and see what they do when referring to genitalia. You could pick up a thing or two.
Chris is a good girl, but yeah you're not gonna find much chrisfags here since she's not very /u/-related unlike the others.I'm much more partial to HibiMiku and DMJii, so it makes me happy to find stories focused on them.
Lastly, maybe next time there's a lot of POV jumping, add linebreaks or something so the reader knows it happened? Or make it multi-chapter for limited perspective; chapter one is focused on one girl and chapter two focuses on the other. Same events, but different experiences for both, you know?

There's nothing that really interests me in /m/'s fapfiction request box right now, and it'd be nice to write something fluffy. Most porn artists just draw a sex act and expect it to carry the mood of the picture and its characters, but it has never worked like that. Small details - stuffs like Hibiki's expression, her right hand movement, her leg position, or even Miku's own hand placement - are far more important than blasting sex in full view to convey intimacy, desire or pleasure. It's these small details that contribute to make an image more organic and alive, where it feels the characters are indeed in the middle of something intimate and sexy rather than just sitting there for the picture.

Kanadeis my waifu, but I do have to agree with you. On top of having not been a relevant character at all in G or GX, her seiyuu is too old to do a serious role with tons of singing. Minami still does a little singing and small roles here and there, but the woman is just old and tired. It makes me sad, sure, but I respect that there's real-world reasons for Kanade not to return as well as in-universe ones.
Having the dolls come back as neutered support characters would be fun, but the writers can barely handle six main characters and a handful of secondaries, I can't imagine the clusterfuck next season would be if they had all six geahs, Genjuuro, Miku, Elfnein, AND all four dolls vying for screen time.
