It's mainly the grammar and wording for certain things like what happened with sumins parents. I'll reread it of course and hopefully that will clear up all things unbeknownst to me. When ppl addressing you with "-shi", it emphasize that you're still not familiar with that person. like there's still gap between the closeness you feel towards them. when you started calling them "-ya" there's a sense of familiarity and closeness, and it also demolish the age difference. sometimes, using "-shi" is also pretty normal for couple especially in early stage of dating/knowing as term of endearment. and why sumin doesn't used "-yo", from my understanding, it'll be more weird for sumin to use "yeoppoyo" coz one, sumin is older than sungji, so it's more normal and typical for her to drop the polite way of speaking to sungji. two, dropping the "-yo" make it sound cuter/closer
