I am. Was the first yuri / shoujo-ai anime I saw. I loved it and still do. I enjoyed Nagisa x Shizuma, but I didn't care too much for Hikari x Amane

I'm used to it at this point, but I just have to strongly disagree that Hikari and Amane were boring. The scene where Amane gets her memories back of Hikari is tied for Shizuma's painful memory scenes for most moving, for me. Not sure what is boring about two high school girls falling in love, but I'm fine being alone in my good taste.

According to what I read on wikipedia, there used to be a self-insert who was effectively a older sister to the main Astraea characters. It doesn't appear as though there was het incest since the role of this self-insert was to give advice to the freshman MCs (Nagisa, Hikari, Kizuna).
I can almost imagine the advice Mr Otaku as the baka onii-chan could give to a young girl dropped into a environment full of attractive lesbians.

The game is literally the same either way, the only difference is the little segment at the end of each day. If you're playing in "girl mode", then your character will write in her diary about the events of the day. If you're in "boy mode", then your character will write a letter to her oniichan instead, telling him all about how she went dokidoki with the cool oneesamas.
Aside from that, you control the girl like normal. It's pretty pointless.

Have any of you read that Strawberry Panic/Family Guy crossover yet?
I used to ship Tamao until I read the light novels, which are honestly SO MUCH BETTER than the anime in every way - not least in the fact that Shizuma is actually a genuinely likeable character who's really gentle and loving with Nagisa. She definitely deserved to win in the original (and best) continuity.

Is Strawberry panic worth watching if I'm fairly new to the whole setup? I've been told it references dorm-drama shows like Marimite, but to be brutally honest I haven't really seen a lot of those sorts of shows. Is it still worth watching? Will a lot of the humor get lost on me? Should I watch shows like Marimite before hand?

Strawberry Panic! is more direct, and is a good romance with little humor and some emotionally powerful scenes whereas Marimite is more ambiguous, romance is only implied except in one maybe two pairings, and has plenty of comic reliefs in what is essentially a roller coaster of emotions. Strawberry Panic! made my cry once. Marimite made me cry four times.
If you really wanna get into the genre, I recommend you save Marimite for last. Sasameki koto, Candy Boy, Aoi Hana, Strawberry Panic! are good, but there is a reserved space in my heart for this anime above all others.
