So far the anime has been pretty good for yuri fans who like fanservice, having a male character introduced now could mean having to deal with typical "Harem MC shenanigans" and having a bunch of girls lusting for him
As for what the cast said, they said there wouldn't be any male characters introduced in the future, which means that there could be a male that has already been introduced, and the Governor is the only one that fits the bill (COULD be a guy, not DEFINITELY is a guy)

In this week radio they confirmed that the BDs will have audio commentary by director Kaneko. And that the BDs will be uncensored just like the AT-X version. They said that ep 3 will also have Mamori's VA audio commentary.

Iguchi asked her if she's okay with it, with VD being her first protag role and all. Doesn't she want her Mom to watch how much Mamori have grown within 12 ep and hear her thought about it? I wouldn't call it fucking with the audience. That's a narrow perspective. Bishonen is very common in shoujo, just not so widely used in seinen. It's just a bit odd as a stylistic choice in a hugely ecchi anime.
