Also,the mother specifically notes that the rainboots Sora is wearing are "my old ones" (39, p.15 first panel). So it's likely that the mother was the original girl he met, and that it's been a very long time, and he's just recently started killing girls over it.

It was implied thatof the 8 recent murders, he only did three (the three "newest masks" that Kuroko makes a comment about when she's in his trophy room). The others are implied to have been Ringo-chan, which is why there were children and men among the victims (the father only killed women) and why his alibis checked out for 5/8 murders.

I don't think there's a sure way to know how well a manga is doing, unless of course we're talking about big selling stuff. However, I'd say it's popular enough, considering that 5 volumes have already been released in less than 2 years with vol 6 being released next month, and the manga still showing no signs of coming to an end.

I think the bigger issue is the crowd it would attract by going mainstream. I'm not much of a hipster but Murcielago is the kind of series (extremely gory/violent, very sexual, nigh invincible, "evil" protagonist) that would draw the absolute worst breed of western anime watchers. That same group that's in love with series like Deadman Wonderland, Hellsing, Elfen Lied, Mirai Nikki, etc.
I'm a big fan of Yandere but the cringe of Mirai Nikki's post-anime fanbase pretty much ruined Yuno for me. I dread what the popularity of a great series like Murcielago being animated might bring.

I'm no expert or anything, but I notice animes come out when there are at least 2 seasons worth of material out. If it's still running in 5 years, it'll probably get one. Regardless of anime quality, most likely as a manga promotion. It might take even longer for something like Murcielago lest you end up with a 20 minute fight scene from 30 pages (Kuroko v. Knives Guy or Motorcycle v. Knives Bunny)
Only really popular works get animes early if they have tons of merchandise potential such as Black Butler for fujos (TWO years for 24, mostly filler episodes) or fanservice like Ikki Tousen (three years to get an anime, four seasons after 15 years worth of content). Then there's the other end that lives off fetish like the really het breastfeeding but nicely drawn Qwaser (4 years for 24 episodes, a second season a year later) and Queen's Blade gamebooks (started in 2005 but has tons of spin offs and material. Grimoire hasn't been adapted yet).

He mentioned: drugs, gambling, tax evasion, larceny, destruction of property, desertion, and blasphemy as potential crimes of the people he invited to his party. Possibly, but there have been stand alone chapters like 34, which focused on one character, then went on to a completely new arc not involving them in any way.
Honestly, I just want the series to get to Reiko's confrontation with Kuroko, since I'm curious how strong she actually is. The arc involving the rainboots serial killer had Chacha get really mad at Kuroko for not having any empathy, so that could play a role soon. I've noticed that all of the arcs are more interconnected than they seemed at the time, something from that arc is likely going to be of significance later on.
