Not really
>Hearing that the translation of the script is done by Craig Donson’s team
>Craig Donson’s team = Ralen
This means the producer doesn't know the translator, he only knows that she worked with the guy who sent like 1000 letters to the Reo-ppoi radio.
>>
>>1874044
I like how this automatically adds an outline to the text.

If only this had some H scenes to make it useful, hint hint
>>
>>1874070
I noticed the text looked a little different with the text box off, but didn't realize the text with the text box was shadowed but not outlined.

And there's already a patch for invisible/different-colored text boxes in the older games, but it's nice that it was integrated into the base game. Baby steps.
>>
>>1874047
No. Mangagamer didn't even know who Craig was. They hired Ralen to do the TL. Granted, they probably know who he is NOW, but they probably only know him as some blogger they can use for PR
>>
The Mangagamer version seems to be DRM free if people are wondering.

Unfortunately, no. That version had some rather severe encoding issues that I think I've fixed. Before I post the final one, though, I'm going to be doing some frame-by-frame comparisons of the same file encoded several different ways in hopes that I get it right this time.

I'd like to know this. But what I'd really like to know is would a fan of Flowers enjoy it?

Haven't played a single entry in the series but I am curious. However from what I've seen (feel free to correct me) this game is more of a bonus reflection on the girls' relationship, not a fully fledged installment.
>>
>>1874787
>But what I'd really like to know is would a fan of Flowers enjoy it?

Yes, it's really sweet and the girls really have some nice chemistry between them, granted it's 3-4 hours long though
>However from what I've seen (feel free to correct me) this game is more of a bonus reflection on the girls' relationship, not a fully fledged installment.

It's a prequel telling how they first met
>>
>>1874787
I enjoyed the game, it was what I was expecting from a prequel, also I really liked how they added some small stuff about things that will happen in later games (like >>1874348 said). The game is also even more light hearted than your usual Sono Hana game.

>But what I'd really like to know is would a fan of Flowers enjoy it?
Not sure, the Sono Hana and FLOWERS' worlds are totally oposites. In Flowers, lesbianism is seen like a the worst taboo ever and in Sono Hana is the most normal thing in the world.

>this game is more of a bonus reflection on the girls' relationship, not a fully fledged installment
It is a prequel about how these two girls met.
>>
>>1874787
>would a fan of Flowers enjoy it?
It's nearly as well written but if you can accept that it's entertaining, albeit much shorter.
>>
>>1874805
*NOT nearly, of course
>>
>>1874787
Also, if you are a fan of FLOWERS I guess you can read Japanese. If yes, I recommend you to play Maidens of Michael first, that is pretty much the best game in the series and can be used as a starting point to the series.
>>
>>1874799
>and in Sono Hana is the most normal thing in the world.

I wouldn't say this is absolutely true, based on some of the characters wanting to keep their relationship secret.
>>
>>1874787
Never played Flowers before so I can't really tell, but if you like lighthearted and sweet yuri, there's no doubt you will enjoy it.

About the second statement, fear not. The game is meant to introduce newcomers to the series.
>>
>>1874809
>some of the characters wanting to keep their relationship secret.
Literally none of the relationships are a secret.
>>
>>1874812
Eventually... Some of them start as secrets though.
>>
>>1874813
Nanami, just because she didn't consider herself good enough to be dating the most popular girl in the school.

Also Reo because she was shy as fuck.
>>
>>1874809
They only try to keep them secret because of inferiority complexes. It's all "oh I don't think I'm good enough for her" or "no then people will start talking about us".
>>
>>1874819
I must have read into it too much then.
>>
>>1874809
Not sure about that... The reason why they want to keep it a secret is mostly because of popularity reasons, or to avoid a big commotion in the school... Every background character (Girl A, Girl B...) seems pretty delighted whenever a couple starts to get lovey-dovey in front of them, like it's the most natural thing in the world.

Even mr.producer said that he wants to avoid this kind of thing that makes yuri look unnatural and shit.

Anyway, lesbianism is definitely a super normal thing in Sono Hana
>>
$7 is not too much. but goddammit, the sex is the best part! I really to see Maidens of Michael in English tho. ugh. I guess I'll buy it

>>1874827
While the sex is great, the best part of Maidens was the confession scene. It is still my favorite part in the entire series.
>>
>>1874809
Not really

In New Generation Hazuki outright tells to her parents that Manami is her lover when she comes to her house just before taking her room afterwards
>>
>>1874838
Not only in New Gene. In the main series almost all the girls already told their parents about their girlfriends.
>>
>>1874833
Yeah, that was pretty great. An emotional confession scene, followed by a passionate love scene. One without the other just isn't any good!
>>
>>1874845
yeah... anon already said he was reading into the "keeping it a secret" thing too much...
>>
>>1874848
To be fair "keeping it a secret" pretty much went out the window with the second game. It was impossible for Sara and Kaede and no one afterward ever bothered. Only Nanami had a real reason to try to cover it up.
>>
>>1874845
What about Sara/Kaede?
Isn't that a bit weird to share with the folks?
>>
>>1874852

I'm so obsessed with yuri that I successfully made one of my friends realize that she's gay, just by spamming my Garry's Mod server with yuri links. Everybody loves me there, you just gotta be charismatic and provide a lot of high quality lesbian porn.
>>
>>1874787
>But what I'd really like to know is would a fan of Flowers enjoy it?
I think Flowers is great and find the Sono Hana series pretty poor, sometimes even close to unreadable.

>>1874799
>In Flowers, lesbianism is seen like a the worst taboo ever
That's not the case. It's a potential issue, but if anything it's more tolerated than would be realistic for a school like that.
>>
>>1874344
Thank you for your efforts there.

The encode is finally complete. Here's what I hope is the final version of the OVA:

https://mega.nz/#!0sACGB7L!kRgWhJk5VehU4PV6UihYKM1c6WKTi2VUZHI22CadNIY

I'm pretty sure any issues remaining are intrinsic to waifu2x and not the compression at this point. Unless I'm incompetent, which is the most likely case.

>>1874906
I didn't find it. I upscaled the DVD with an absurdly computationally expensive algorithm (waifu2x). It looks (in my opinion) better than anything in madVR, but it requires at least 8 hours with a very high end GPU to upscale an episode.

Miya seems too cheerful to be a prequel, in Maidens she was a lot more serious. And again, Miya and Risa are in very good terms to be a prequel, in Maidens at the beginning they didn't seem to get along, and in the prequel they are friends. Besides that, is a good game.
>>

At the beginning of Maidens they are in pretty good terms though, their interactions in the first scene of the game are pretty similar to their interactions in Remembering how we met.

I think I removed all the problematic noise. My workflow was as follows:
360MB source > AviUtl to waifu2x, (uncompressed RGB24, 130 GB) > Baka Encoder to do RGB24-YUV420p piped into x264, 10bit, crf=18.

The mosquito noise was from using an 8-bit x264, so I switched to linux to do ffmpeg yuv4mpeg piping to x264 10bit. This introduced colorspace issues. I then switched to baka encoder as they had a post on their thing talking about how their RGB->YUV transform was superior to Avisynth as it was done floating point instead of integer. In the end, it appears to have worked.

Yunna's the biggest pervert behind the whole thing. You know how none of the girls ever get interrupted in the garden, nurse's office, etc? It's because of Yuuna's doing as the head of the environmental protection committee. She's protecting the environment of yuri PDA.

They say that if two girls pray to St. Yuuna, they'll be given all the privacy they could want.

I still find it strange that Mai and Reo never, ever called each other's names with honorifics, even before they started going out. Did the writer goof or did the two just not care?
>>
>>1875800
They just had that sort of friendship, before becoming lovers. They were close, so it would've been kinda wrong, using honorifics..

If you find female classmates not using honorifics strange before they start going out, you may have had too much exposure to lesbian ojou-samas.

The game was surprisingly enjoyable. The dynamics between the protagonists were well done, and both are good characters. Risa is a great protagonist, but i would liked to see more of Miya pov. Miya thinking that Risa would cut ties with her because she showed her real personality was shocking. And the voice of Girl C was the star of the game.
>>
>>1875800
You probably haven't played Maidens or Shirayuki. Reo doesn't give a shit about honorifics, she calls even her upperclassmates by their first name.

Gee, what do you think? It's 2 catgirls who love their master. No h-scenes in the steam version, but still.
>>
>>1875934
All I want is yuri catgirls, why is that so hard?

>>1875935
Well if I knew I wouldn't be fucking asking, would I.
>>
>>1875916
No, you can dl it straight from MangaGamers once you've bought it
>>
>>1875919
She knows, that's why she went crazy just thinking about Risa leaving her for Rikka.
>>
>>1876129
That was the second sweetest scene on the VN, just after the arm holding one.
>>
>>1875918
If you're not using your free Steam keys then give them out here so more people can play and the Steam sales stats can go up for it.
>>
>>1875918
The Mangagamer version has no DRM. Just extract it and play it.
>>
>>1876173
>against DRM
>if you're not gonna use that DRM give it to someone else that will keep contributing to the violation of everyone's digital rights
Genious.
>>
>>1876210
At least I have a dejected miya badge on my profile.
>>
>>1876212
What a good goy.
>>
>>1875938
Because generic harem VNs attract a lot of insertfags.
>>
>>1876212
I want it too.
>>
Haven't been following the series for a few years, is 8 still the most recent VN to get translated (not counting the steam one)? Also what's the "Flowers" series people are talking about.
>>
>>1876243
9 and 10 have translations too. Flowers is some other, unrelated yuri series.
>>
>>1876243
9 was the last translated with a final patch, 10 is translated with a beta patch.

Flowers is a yuri VN series totally unrelated to Sono Hana made by Innocent Gray, go to the yuri games general for more info about it >>1864924
>>
>>1876210
>implying anyone here other than you gives a shit about whatever you just said
If you don't want to increase the likelihood of any more games coming out at all then why are you still here?
>>
>>1876261
>more games being released equals having to support DRM
You're a retard. All I'm saying is not to buy from Steam, MangaGamer is fine as confirmed they give you a DRM-free copy of the game.
>>
>>1876265
I never said buy from Steam, go buy from Mangagamer then have someone else redeem the Steam key to inflate the sales records.
>>
>>1876267
Why would I do that? The sole reason I don't buy it directly from Steam is to not support DRM. Giving someone the Steam key would be indirectly supporting DRM and I'm not going to do that.

MangaGamer must keep a sale record anyway, they will probably combine it with Steam's unique sale records and see how much it sold. So yeah, there is no point in giving out a Steam key for the sale record.

Can we get the /g/ paranoia shit out of here and discuss how cute Miya is?

Why are you even here?
>>
>>1876299
I do like to support the doujin circle, but I'm not supporting the localization of this game, I won't buy it, but won't copy the PC version either, I just downloaded and played the mobile version. I hate the West and its relationship with Steam when it comes to games, it's a cancer eating away everything.

Becuase I love lesbians and lesbian accessories. That doesn't mean I have to think the games are good.
>>

Why the fuck you want to play/read them then?
>>
>>1876306
There are other threads on /u/, so why come to the thread specifically about a VN series?

>I hate the West
Do you also want to become japanese, by any chance?

Because he is probably from /v/, over there you only go to the threads of stuff you don't like and whine about it.

Not much of a point to that.
>>
>>1876323
You're on a thread about a series with 19 VNs and you're going to try to convince people that they are fooling themselves and VNs are bad?

Are we being raided?
>>
>>1876322
Oh so everything the West does like forcing you to suck Internet corporate cock is completely alright and people that don't like it must want to be Japanese (who are literally the Jews of the East)

Then don't use Steam? I don't.

Admittedly, the fact that I didn't have a computer that could play most DRM-only games until recently may have influenced my opinion.

Post cute girls
>>
>>1876129
But that was mostly a comical situation.
>>
>>1876335
I'm not supporting the translated release because MangaGamer, even if they are releasing a DRM-free copy of the game, are supporting Steam which is a platform that violates its users' digital rights and freedoms. I won't support Steam, or anyone that enables Steam. I'm sorry.

If they had released it on GoG too or something I would have bought a copy.
>>
>>1876340
>games
You were fooling yourself the moment you called VN "games". As the name states, it's a visual NOVEL. Treat it as a book.
>>
>>1876340
>>1876345
>talking about digital rights
>while on 4chan
>while on windows
Oh, the irony.
>>
>>1876345
But practically every game is on Steam, or trying to get greenlighted to be on Steam. Do you buy anything?
>>
The game isn't fantastic, it could have been much better with a better writing and more history and background, but of all the couples, Risa and Miya seems the best developed characters and couple by far.
>>
>>1876355
>Risa and Miya seems the best developed characters and couple by far
They are.
Also, their story in Maidens of Michael is much better than this game.
>>
Miya saying that her parents donated a great amount of money to the school, explains perfectly why she hasn't been expelled for skipping classes so much.
>>
>>1876350
Who said I am on Windows? Because I'm obviously not.

>>1876353
I only have bought from sources that don't shove DRM down my throat. I almost don't play games anyway, they aren't free as in freedom and I try to use as less as non-free software as possible. I don't even run Flash at this point, bless HTML5 support.
>>
>>1876355
What good is development if they aren't cute? Miya and Risa have too many problems and hangups. Mai/Reo for life.
>>
>>1876345
Steam is very much not violating any freedoms. Heck, it actually has a functioning offline mode, while others are trying to move towards always requiring an internet connection,

And here's the kicker- THE STEAM VERSION DOES NOT USE ANY DRM!
>>
>>1876363
>if they aren't cute
But they are.
>>
>>1876355
>>1876357
They wouldn't put a lot of effort in something which was originally made for mobiles after all...
>>
>>1876364
>Steam is very much not violating any freedoms
It is in many ways.
> Heck, it actually has a functioning offline mode, while others are trying to move towards always requiring an internet connection
Just because it has became less invasive than others in offline mode doesn't means it's not inherently bad.
>And here's the kicker- THE STEAM VERSION DOES NOT USE ANY DRM!
So you can play the Steam version without the Steam software? If so, why would you like it in Steam in the first place? Just download the MangaGamer version.
>>
>>1876357
Actually, the part that i liked most of the game was when Risa and Miya started talking about things that wasn't school or Miya skipping classes, they have a great dynamic. It's a shame the story is so weak, and didn't develop almost anything about their daily lives, and families. I don't know if it's the same in all their other games.
>>
>>1876359
But Mangagamers aren't shoving DRM down your throat, the Steam key is a optional extra for those who do use Steam. Lots of companies do that nowadays once they manage to get their game on Steam.
>>
What the hell is going on about Steam and Drm discussion? Go to another thread for that.
>>
>>1876371
Maidens/Shirayuki revolves around of a bunch of things you mentioned... Family, their life outside of school...
>>
>>1876372
Exactly, MangaGamer is indirectly enabling Steam and I do not approve of that.
>>
>>1876371
Their family problems and daily life is pretty much the plot of every VN/Drama CD about them.
>>
>>1876375
around a bunch of things*
don't know where that first "of" came from
>>
>>1876374
/v/ is leaking.
>>
>>1876371
In the long games (Maidens, Shirayuki, New Gene) only the common route is about school stuff, the individual routes are almost always about family "drama" or others outside school problems.
>>
>>1876347
It always feels strange to me when people bring this point up as though it means something, since actually it's clear that as far as the creators are concerned they are games (in fact they're adventure games rather than visual novels under Japanese terminology)
>>
>>1876381
Just when you get off one shitcussion...
>>
>>1876381
/v/ loves DRM and Steam because they only care about their gaymens and don't give a shit about anything else, not even their basic human rights.
>>
>>1876375
Risa has ever met Miya's parents in their others games?
>>
>>1876377
Well I may not agree with your opinion, but I can at least respect that even moe lesbians won't sway your conviction.
>>
>>1876390
Nope, only the other way around.
>>
>>1876383
Of course, it doesn't mean everything that happens outside of school will be super sad and shit. Quite the opposite tbh, considering Sono Hana cheerful and sweet nature.
>>
>>1876390
Miya met Risa's parents. There's even a CG in Shirayuki which pictures the scene.
>>
>>1876403
She actually met Risa's moms.
>>
i found a vid on flowers on youtube for the people here that are wondering. the vn is supposed to come out in october 2015

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxuSjz5zJbg
>>
>>1876392
DRM can't stop me from enjoying my moe lesbians, there are always ways to avoid DRM and that won't ever change because no system is flawlessly perfect and secure.

In this case I don't even have to look around for cracked versions, the mobile version free of Steamshit exists.
>>
>>1876407
Oh, is it so? I haven't played it, so I wasn't really sure about that...
>>
>>1876410
In Nipponese?
>>
>>1876412
Yes. Unfortunately I don't think they released the translated non-PC port version, am I wrong?
>>
>>1876410
The series is divided in 4 games. The first two are already released and I think the third one will come next year.

Also, Jast announced a official english translation.
>>
I fucked up
>>1876408
see
>>1876418
>>
>>1876407
In fact, that's pretty rare, because Miya already met Risa's mom, and they have a good relationship, the mother gave her permission to go live with Risa, but Risa still never met Miya's family, or even go to her house.
>>
>>1876411
Yeah, after all the drama about Risa's mom getting re-married and Risa finally accepting it, Miya met Risa's mom and the mom's girlfriend, with Miya actually becoming business budies with her.
>>
>>1876425
Waow, Risa's mom has a GIRLFRIEND? Best mom ever
>>
>>1876420
Pretty sure they are keeping that for the next game with drama about them not accepting Risa.

>>1876427
Yeah, it is her old classmate from school.
>>
>>1876425
The drama in Shirayuki about Risa thinking that Miya would go to Europe to start a business with her mom's girlfriend, i don't understand why Risa doesn't get angry with that woman, she first get Risa's mom to go live with her to Europe, and then Miya,in Risa's perspective.
>>
>>1876418
I think the second one hasn't been released yet.
>>
>>1876433
Was released some months before New Generation, the october release you mentioned it is probably the Vita port.
>>
>>1876436
I wasn't the one you originally replied to. It's just that it's listed as "First Press Limited Edition" on vndb.
>>
>>1876429
I do not think they're going to make more games about Risa and Miya, too many already. I hope i'm wrong, of course.
>>
>>1876440
They'll obviously get a route in a next long game though.
>>
>>1876429
If her family doesn't accept Risa, Miya would cut ties with them, she doesn't get along with them, either way, so it wouldn't be a big drama for her.
>>
Wasn't there a twitter follower something for SonoHana? What was the result?
>>
>>1876446
It is still on going, it doesn't have a time limit. The last time I checked they had like 13k followers.
>>
>>1876449
They want 50k for the anime isn't it?
>>
>>1876420
I think in Shirayuki, Risa mentions that she was going to meet Miya's parents soon, i could be wrong, i played the game several months ago.
>>
>>1876445
Well, it doesn't need to be drama, it could be a happy meeting with Miya's parents loving Risa and Miya finally forgiving them.

>>1876450
yeah

>>1876452
I don't remember that but I could be wrong too, I played the game years ago.
>>
>>1876458
Seems like it's the most likely thing to happen.
>>
>>1876429
Yeah, and the phrase "I think your mother will accept us" or something like that, that Miya told to Risa in the end of Atelier, seems to go in that direction.
>>
>>1876462
Isn't Risa the one who said that to Miya? Guys, this is getting confused. Someone who played the games, please, enlighten us.

Is Miya accepted by Risa's parents already? Or is it the opposite?
>>
>All this bullshit about muh digital freedoms
If it's any consolation if they get any more licenses they're very unlikely to be on steam.
>>
>>1876471
Read the thread, Miya already met Risa's mom and her mom girlfriend and both accepted her.

Risa has not met Miya's parent yet but this will probably happen in a future game/route.
>>
>>1876478
I read it all and that's exactly what I understood of it. But some people's statment were really confusing, see >>1876462
>>
>>1876480
Miya said that at the end of Lovers of the Atelier before meeting Risa's moms. She finally met them in her Shirayuki no kishi's route.
>>
>>1876429
>Pretty sure they are keeping that for the next game with drama about them not accepting Risa.

Nanami&Yuuna route in Shirayuki also ends with Yuuna wanting to present Nanami to her parent as well so who knows maybe the next game will have a bit more drama than we are used to
>>
>>1876517
Rikka/Sayuki route too, with Sayuki trying to convice Rikka to met them..
>>
>>1876517
I don't know why everyone likes to link introducing girlfriend to parents with drama. It's understandable with some couples, but for the likes of Nanami/Yuuna and Reo/Mai, things are way more likely to go funny and silly rather than dramatic...
