If by prequels you mean the main games(Maidens of Michael, Lovers of the Atelier, etc), that's a good question.
First things first, this prequel is SFW while the main games definitely aren't, and that might make things awkward for those who knew nothing about the series and decided to give it a try.
Second, this game is a short prequel for one of the main couples of the series, so only releasing the story of how they met without giving us the actual story of how they got together seems pretty lame.
Then again, this is the only title they could release on Steam, where the game would surely get more attention, so it's obvious they also want to investigate if we are actually interested in the series without making a big investment.
Anyway, as the translator said, sales are likely to be a factor, but for the aforementioned reasons this also generated a rather awkward situation, so it's hard to tell what their next move will be.
