Anyone else seen this? It's 9 and 1/2 hours long but it goes by pretty quick, and it's definitely one of the most emotionally powerful films I've seen. Hopefully Criterion releases a Blu-ray soon, there are barely any special features on the DVD edition.

Absolutelybeautifulfilm. Harakiri is equally good but more focused in scope. Best slow burn revenge film of all time.

This was actually my first Kobayashi film, and one of my first Japanese films. So after I have time to recover from watching it, I will definitely get around to watching the rest of Kobayashi's stuff and some Kurosawa.
I agree it was really beautiful. In particular the scene where the woman washes her face in the river and thevery final scene in the snow was beautiful in a dark way.
Arrow are coming out with a blu-ray set in August, its region B locked however.

I'm in America unfortunately. Arrow always has great stuff I want. First A Man for All Seasons and now this. I might just get a region-free Blu-ray+DVD player so I can watch Arrow stuff as well as Peep Show and WILTY.
I wonder if Arrow releasing a blu-ray makes Criterion more or less likely to do so.

Arrow have started releasing films in the USA recently, I guess its a case of just waiting and seeing but I think a Criterion release will happen eventually. In my opinion, I'd say buy any other Arrow USA release, then download Human Condition when it shows up on piratebay or wherever. At least you be supporting them still

pretty good huh
wtf - people talking about a good movie?
>>72098047
Thanks OP, never heard of this before
>>72098047
Only watched the first film but I heard the others never drag in quality. I should watch the other two soon.

Does Arrow release it's shit on time? I'm starting to lose it with Curzon's Tarkovsky antics.
>>72099238
Berlin Alexanderplatz was longer
>>72099238
Well, it's actually three 3 hour long movies. Think of it like a Japanese Lord of the Rings trilogy but set in WW2 instead of Middle Earth.
Best movie is the last one, middle movie is the weakest.

I'm pretty sure Warhol's Empire is final boss, if I remember it is nearly 24 hours long.
any other good Kobayashikino?
>>72099363
Sounds like gimmicky bullshit. The Human Condition is long because it needs to be long to have the intended effect, and also because it was extremely faithful in adapting a novel.
>>72099148
yea
i watched the 3 movies in 2 days
