Then double that for roughly the cost of marketing, and they would have to hit roughly 300 million just to break even, let alone make a profit. The opening weekend is the most important one, and if it's already doing "ho hum" numbers now, it's not going to get any better from here on. Especially considering it's got competition on multiple levels (that Disney pet movie for family audiences, and Star Trek for sci fi nerds). They can't even count on China to save it.

It's the script. First and foremost you get rid of this fucking script. No cast can salvage that. You add some depth and emotional involvement. You aim for more restrained humour instead of slapstickesque. You change the visual direction, get rid of the bright blues and flashy lights, go for more subdued and natural colours. You don't retcon the previous instalments of the franchise, instead you involve the remaining, older, ghostbusters in some way. You probably go with a mix gendered cast, but without any romances between the primary characters. Keep it platonic in that regard.
There are a lot of places this film went wrong. The all female cast, used to drive an agenda, was only one (actually quite small) issue.
