Superman is a terrible one dimensional character which appeal to socially retarded man children because he is simple and easy to understand. Snyder made the choice to also have Batman be super edgy which appeals to this demographic as well.
It's popular on this board but not with the general public for the same reason sonic is popular on deviant art but not with the general public: these sorts of characters (superman/sonic, batman/shadow, and Wonder Woman/rose) only really resonant with people on the spectrum. This movie is praised as deeper than marvel movies not because it is deeper but simply that it is easier for autistic people to understand and therefore they get more out of it.
