Newly released photo of Pennywise from the Stephen King's IT Remake.
Thoughts?
>>
I don't hate it like everyone else does, but I'm not crazy about it. I'll have to see a full shot of the costume with decent lightning before I can say one way or the other.
>>
>>71963568
Not much to comment on but it doesn't look good.
>>
Do you think they will include the girl getting banged by all the boys while they are in the sewer?
>>
>>71963643
Yeah, I'm just glad they didn't make him look doofy or try really hard to make him scary. Plain, clean, and simple.
>>
>>71963568
Who plays Pennywise? Tried IMDB already
>>
Pennywise should look like a normal clown, but creepy at the same time. That red eyeliner drooping shit is too much. Pennywise doesn't need to look like a member of ICP.

Its gonna be really hard to do the book justice
Its really fucking long for one and with a bunch of plot points that would be difficult to impossible to properly convey on the screen

Should have Tim Curry reprise the role. He can be a stroked out clown in a wheelchair. Way scarier.
>>
>>71963568
They'll do some crazy CG teeth and everything will look fine. I fear the movie will still suck though. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best really.
>>

>>
So far, everything about this new movie is dissolving my hope bit by bit. Director, cast, time period shift (not entirely egregious but I'm remaining skeptical). If that one image is a reflection of the flick's tone, and I sincerely hope it isn't, it will be fucking terrible.

Which may end up a blessing in disguise, as it guarantees no Shining remake. Just imagine how bad THAT would be.
>>
From what I can remember from the book Pennywise wasn't actually in it that much. Most times when IT made an appearance IT took the form of whatever was the most horrifying thing ITs current prey could think off. Drowned kids, leper hobos, giant monster birds or whatever. The old TV show I assumed put the emphasis on the clown because it was easy and cheap but I was kinda hoping the new show would stay truer to the book.
>>
>>71964043
T-they wouldn't try to remake a Kubrick film...

Would they?

There already was a TV movie remake of The Shining in the late 90s which was more directly adapted from the book and it was bloody awful.

Hollywood doesn't give a dickfart about legacy or precedence. Ticket sales are down, and they'll exploit any IP they can get their merchant claws around. People reference The Shining to this day, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some CGI fecal facsimile of Kubrick's version.

>>71964105
I doubt they'd even do it if offered, those two have some remaining shred of dignity. But shit, imagine a director the caliber of Snyder taking it on. Mmm, I can almost taste the shit-scented schlock already!
>>
What do you want?’ he asks her.
‘You have to put your thing in me,’ she says.

[
]

There’s a moment when her father’s face intervenes, harsh and forbidding

[
]

‘Bevvie, I’ll fall on you!’ he says, and she hears his breath start to whistle painfully.
‘I think that’s sort of the idea,’ she tells him and holds him gently and guides him. He
pushes forward too fast and there is pain.

[
]

She senses that this is something for him, something extraordinarily, special,
something like . . . like flying. She feels powerful: she feels a sense of triumph rise up strongly
within her. Is this what her father was afraid of? Well he might be! There was power in this
act, all right, a chain-breaking power that was blood-deep

[
]

Mike comes to her, then Richie, and the act is repeated. Now she feels some pleasure, dim
heat in her childish unmatured sex, and she closes her eyes as Stan comes to her and she
thinks of the birds, spring and the birds, and she sees them, again and again, all lighting at
once, filling up the winter-naked trees

[
]
>>
>>71964399
‘Beverly, don’t — ‘
‘Yes.’
‘Show me how to fly,’ she says with a calmness she doesn’t feel, aware by the fresh wetwarmth on her cheek and neck that he has begun to cry. ‘Show me, Ben.’
‘No . . . ‘
‘If you wrote the poem, show me. Feel my hair if you want to, Ben. It’s all right.’
‘Beverly . . . I . . . I . . . ‘
He’s not just trembling now; he’s shaking all over. But she senses again that this ague is
not all fear — part of it is the precursor of the throe this act is all about.

[
]

Bill comes to her.
He tries to say something, but his stutter is almost total now.
‘You be quiet,’ she says, secure in her new knowledge, but aware that she is tired now.
Tired and damned sore. The insides and backs of her thighs feel sticky, and she thinks it’s
maybe because Ben actually finished, or maybe because she is bleeding. ‘Everything is going
to be totally okay.’

[
]

She is aware of a dull throbbing pain of which
they, being male, will never know, aware also of a certain exhausted pleasure and the relief of having it over.

What did he mean by this?
>>

That movie would've been so much better with a different ending. Like, the crack that was made in the mirror when they were kids, I kinda thought that was there to setup that the mirror was vulnerable when it was trying to suck people in. So one of the siblings sacrifices themself to the mirror so the other can be free. Great. Instead it's just a shit, lol everything sucks ending

They're not though.

Randall Flagg is basically an immortal wizard that's been in multiple books as different men, usually with the initials RF.

Pennywise The Dancing Clown/Bob Gray/IT was only in two. A cameo in The Tommyknockers and IT.

The creature known as IT is dead.

Randall Flagg(Or any of his other multiple names) is always out there.

I just wish someone would accept a non-blockbuster crack at a long, slow-burning film (2 parts), either hard R or unrated, with tons of lore and backstory. it could be done, and it would be critically successful.

But people would rather see le evil scary clown with jumpscares and fast cuts. Makes me mad, King is kind of a hack but It is a great story.

My big issue is that there is just so much lore that makes the book so great. The film would almost have to be 2 -3 parts. It would be better as an HBO miniseries or something. They are likely doing the same thing that the TV movie did, which was have one movie for the kids sort of, and one for the adults.

The book had it all interchanged, and my favourite parts were actually the Derry Interludes by Mike Hanlon. Those side stories of the history of strange things in the town really built up the novel for me.

Also if it takes place in modern times, it will have celphones and shit, ruining the idea of when kids would just go out and play. Kids don't just go out and play anymore. Also the racism angle. Why does every adaptation have to be modern?

In the end I'll see it eventually, but I am just going in with no expectations.

Actually, I guess the kids part would instead be during the 80s, so I guess the cellphone shit won't come into play. If they do the every 30 years thing.

Wow I felt old, I just about said it would take place in the 70's, as if it was 2000 or so. Not 2015.
>>
>>71963715
Why did King write that shit? Is he a pedo? I feel like he only did the book for the scene and fapped the whole time he was writing it.
>>
>>71968123
We'll, the kids won't all have cellphones, as it's set in the 80's. So we're good there at least.
>>
>>71968081
the first half of Dreamcatcher with the dudes in the cabin was great, shitweasels and all

Then it turned insane with the military and ayyylmaos and Duddits flashbacks and long chase across the state.

It felt like a throwback to King's drug-addiction days, like Tommyknockers.
>>
>>71968032
yeah a netflix or amazon thing would make this a lot more hype

Death by Mordred was such a piss off.
>>
>>71968206
Stephen King on that particular scene: "I wasn't really thinking of the sexual aspect of it. The book dealt with childhood and adulthood --1958 and Grown Ups. The grown ups don't remember their childhood. None of us remember what we did as children--we think we do, but we don't remember it as it really happened. Intuitively, the Losers knew they had to be together again. The sexual act connected childhood and adulthood. It's another version of the glass tunnel that connects the children's library and the adult library. Times have changed since I wrote that scene and there is now more sensitivity to those issues."
>>
>>71968234
Didn't Mordred end up with food poisoning? That book didn't handle its villains very well.

"Richie later showed up in Derry with Bevery Marsh learning the steps to the lindy-hop. They make secret glances at each other about the murders by Pennywise the Clown, which ended the summer before. Jake Epping gives them some helpful hints on dancing as he learns the whereabouts of the Dunning family. "

A lot of his previous references to other books weren't so obvious. I read 11/22/63, it was shit in general but that part was even worse.

Isn't Randall Flagg based on Lovecrafts Nyarlathotep?
I always kinda hoped so was Mr. Gaunt from Needful Things was a representation of him too.
I mean it fits him to a tee, but I think he was just meant to be a demon.

I sort of disliked Doctor Sleep. I liked early on but once they introduce a far fetched plot idea and a certain mary sue, all the threat was taken out.

King should just set all his novels in the 60s. Much more comfy, the first half of The Revival was just perfect.

No, not having something in common with Randall Flagg, but something in common with Lovecrafts original description of Nyarlathotep.

>"In his first appearance in "Nyarlathotep" (1920), he is described as a "tall, swarthy man" who resembles an ancient Egyptian pharaoh.[1] In this story he wanders the earth, seemingly gathering legions of followers, the narrator of the story among them, through his demonstrations of strange and seemingly magical instruments. These followers lose awareness of the world around them, and through the narrator's increasingly unreliable accounts the reader gets an impression of the world's collapse."

>"Nyarlathotep differs from the other beings in a number of ways. Most of them are exiled to stars, like Yog-Sothoth and Hastur, or sleeping and dreaming like Cthulhu; Nyarlathotep, however, is active and frequently walks the Earth in the guise of a human being, usually a tall, slim, joyous man. He has "a thousand" other forms, most of these reputed to be maddeningly horrific. Most of the Outer Gods have their own cults serving them; Nyarlathotep seems to serve these cults and take care of the deities' affairs in their absence. Most of the gods use strange alien languages, but Nyarlathotep uses human languages and can be mistaken for a human being. The other Outer Gods and Great Old Ones are often described as mindless or unfathomable rather than truly malevolent, but Nyarlathotep delights in cruelty, is deceptive and manipulative, and even cultivates followers and uses propaganda to achieve his goals."

I man, he basically came to the town, gathered a legion of followers doing "favors" for seemingly magical items and left it in complete chaos and death.

It's more I hear the sound of them I guess. When I visit my father's, it's out in a rural area, we used to really know the cottagers/neighbors, have them over for fires and such. But after my mother died and myself and my siblings have moved out, and families that had cottages along that road moved along themselves, different people have come in, along with more year round people. Didn't help that the private road we were on was expanded by some one who owned more of the land and split it into lots.

Just means that now when I visit it's just strangers who act like they are the only ones on the road, racing on it with 4wheelers, big trucks, etc. I guess it's almost an "old vs new" thing.

Though in the fall and winter, it's generally quiet like i remembered it.

The book describes Derry as a small city, and Derry is a standin for Bangor, which currently has a population of more than 32,000. I know the miniseries gave it an old small town feel and was probably filmed in one, but that's not the Derry of the book.

This movie is filming in Toronto, which has a population of more than 2 million.
