Someone who fears sitting in the middle and having to pass over everyone if they need to use the restroom.

With as empty as the theater is going to be, there's no need to worry about that of course.

Who buys tickets for a Friday movie on a Tuesday?

Who even buys tickets in advance?

Are you idiots so autistic that you need a special seat reserved ahead of time when you go see movies?

It's a reboot of one of the most beloved movies of all time. It's still too early to tell, but if people were really looking forward to it seats should be filling up quickly.

Why not? All seats are reserved here anyway so if I actually want to bother going to the theater I'm damn sure I'm getting good seats.

It still doesn't indicate how well it will do. Normies will probably buy tickets on the day they watch it

Is that Hoyts?

I'm watching the film in the LUX suite on Friday. Because there's only 20 seats, they usually get packed early.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about - Hoyts is a cinema chain in Australia, LUX is its VIP service where the chairs are recliners and food/drinks are served during the movie.

Where I live movies sell out opening day around a week in advance, especially during the summer.

Obviously chuckling about a theater being empty is premature but this is not a good sign for the movie.

To put it in perspective Sony was hoping this would be their franchise to hold it's own against Marvel and WB.

It's going to have a hard time competing against Dory and Secret Life of Pets, let alone Avengers or Batman.

It's not the case with these pictures but generally I place greater importance on not sitting near other people when choosing my seat. I have friends who will sit directly behind other people in a theatre just because it's the very middle and then get annoyed that they inevitably have to deal with the chucklefucks talking through the whole movie

It's been a long time since I've tried to see a movie that was completely sold out, but try going to a movie with more than two people and see how difficult it can be to get good seats together. There's always at least one or two seats empty so if you don't mind potentially getting crappy seats, then it's not so hard if you're alone or with someone else.

out of 19 showings between 4 screens at the local theater i counted maybe 20-25 seats reserved.

>>
>>71932972

You don't live in a city full of savages. This policy would not work here, and frankly I don't think it should anyway. This is the movies, not a fucking opera house.

Show up early if you want specific seats. The best you can reserve is the right to be admitted for a particular showtime.
>>
>>71933136

How the fuck does seating work in America? Here the seating is done by lettered rows with numbered seats and your ticket has the seat number on it. You can ask for whatever seat you want at the counter as long as it isn't already taken. It's been like that for years
>>
>>71933214
As far as I was aware, you buy a ticket for a particular showtime if it isn't sold out, walk in the theater, assess which seats are available, and sit down in the seats of your choice.
>>
>>71933210
Dude I live in Brazil and even here that shit works. Your city can't be any more savage than mine.
Though I've only had reserved seats twice, both on premiere days, usually it's on a first come first serve basis.
>>
>>71933243

Sounds antiquated as fuck
>>
>>71933289
>antiquated

More like natural. First come, first serve. Why should you be given a seat you were not willing to post early enough to reserve?
>>
>>71932280
at least no one's getting shot...
>>
>>71933272
Well I don't know what to tell you. I rarely if ever go to opening nights in Imax 3D TM so maybe that's how i've been missing out, but on all other occasions in every kind of theater I have been to you just sit where you can.
>>
>>71933308

For such a capitalistic money driven country, I find it odd that American theaters wouldn't give the seat to the first buyer. In that case, reservations make more sense.
>>
>>71933308
>Why should you be given a seat you were not willing to post early enough to reserve?
My wallet posted early for me on that thing called the internet, you know the thing you're using right now?

Is it really that alien to have an assigned seat on your ticket and not be dumb enough to sit in any other seat than that one?
>>
>>71933214
Thats how it works where I live, which is Pennsylvania if that matters
>>
>>71933388
Yes it is. You didn't pay a premier price. You paid what I did. You are reserving the right to admittance, the same as I am by purchasing the ticket.

I could understand if they added a reservation fee trying to enforce this idea but they don't, so you're shit out of luck.

I have also never seen a ticket with a seat number on it, so again I think they just don't do this where I live.
>>71933386
We are also competitive society, with winners and losers. People who think they can show up extremely late to a showing and not have to sit down front are the proverbial losers, in my opinion.
>>
>>71933441
>We are also competitive society, with winners and losers.

And people who had the foresight to reserve seats and force other people to worse seats seem more intelligent
>>
>>71933441
Exactly. We both payed the same price, we both get to reserve a seat.

The seats are available for reservation on purchase on a first buy first reserve basis.

If you want your pick of the whole theater you have to post up and buy your ticket early.

Welcome to the internet age

I usually see movies downtown somewhere or at my local theater, and its literally older than my parents.

I'm not surprised that Astoria has this degeneracy.

Honestly, if the majority of people are buying their tickets at the ticketbox and therefore not reserving a seat, who would think they can enforce this rule? I guarantee 80% of moviegoers in new york are not aware of this function.

IIRC, TFA was setting records for presale tickets well in advance of the movie coming out.
>>
>>71933700
>Honestly, if the majority of people are buying their tickets at the ticketbox and therefore not reserving a seat, who would think they can enforce this rule?
My local theaters you dont buy from a human. It's all computer kiosks where you pick a showing, seats, and swipe your card.

I did however go to a theater where at the window the ticket girl swiveled an ipad thing around and asked which seats we wanted.
>>
>>71933773
wew lad I first encountered that in Europe and I literally left and went and found a theater with a human being in it. I really don't like that shit.

Over the past years in my area of California they've upgraded to luxury seats in all the theaters nearby and that's when seat reserving really became a thing.

I'm guessing the people who think it's weird haven't had their theaters get upgraded yet and they're stuck with first come first serve. Hopefully they'll soon discover the joys of the luxury seats.

We have luxury seats in the uber mega theaters with 15 imax screens. Apparently they do this in my city but I still haven't really had to deal with it.

I prefer the system of first come first serve personally. If I care about a movie I'm ging to show up early anyway.
>>
>>71933700
I always reserve tickets a week in advance because I'm 6'4" and like the back in front of the aisle for the leg room. I show up pretty late a lot and whenever there's a faggot that probably bought the same day and got a shitty seat sitting there I just show him my ticket with the seat number and he moves. It's not a huge deal and they always know they just thought the person wasn't going to show up.

In Alaska, the only time you have to reserve seats is for the only IMAX RPX theater, and that only became a policy last year. It still doesn't affect the normal screenings at the same movie theater. The rest of the time you just walk in and find a seat.

German here, literally everybody reserves tickets with assigned online. You don't have to worry about getting a good seat coming in.

You just sound like a grandpa clinging to your outdated system not wanting to accept reservations have become common practice.

Dunno about immigration, media pretty much stopped reporting once Turkey closed EU borders and was all about Brexit. Don't think much more people are coming right now but we already have enough so whatever.

Holy fuck m8 you need to browse /pol/ a bit. They just announced they are letting any person who applied for refugee status and failed to gain residency as long as they get a job or an (((educational program))).

I'm not clinging to anything, I have just never encountered reservations. I don't run around the city looking for places without reservation systems to enjoy the experience of a bygone era. It literally is not a big thing here, which you admit yourself.

Unless you think the whole country is 'clinging on to an outdated system'?

Maybe if you had clung on to your past you wouldn't be getting replaced bro.
>>
>>71936347

The way you argued about reservations and absolutely not needing them seemed like you took a strong stance against them but if you don't care then whatever, neither do I really. Will be in NYC this summer but don't think I'll be going to the movies and I'm happy with the system in place here.

>>71936438
Well that sucks but I'm not a poorfag so I don't really care all that much about the refugees.. I don't interact with them and there is zero chance of them stealing my job since they'd need years worth of education to do it which they obviously don't have lel. I'll enjoy watching the EU and country burn though.

Sometimes reserving seats creates more conflict than it's worth

>book airline ticket
>window seat to avoid fat people sandwich and drink cart on elbows
>get on plane
>find seat, there's a teenager sitting in mine
>politely ask her to be sure
>ask her to move so I can sit in my assigned seat
>she gets up
>her dad, who is three rows back in aisle seat, starts heckling me
>"so what, you're going to make a cripple get up now?"
>don't really pay attention to him as I'm sitting down
>"why would you make her get up when she has a broken leg?"
>realize that she's actually in a cast
>she's already moved
>I was already moving to my assigned seat
>I ask him if he'd actually like to exchange seats so he can actually sit next to her instead of three rows back
>he grumbles something and sits back in his own seat
>still calls me a prick for making his "crippled child" stand up
>think to myself: nigga I just wanted to sit in the goddamn seat I booked

So yes, you can reserve seats and STILL have people make problems for you. And unfortunately it's just like people on trains/buses who sit in the outside seat with their shit on the inside and then pretend not to hear you when you ask to sit down, or refuse to move and force you to climb over them to get into the inside seat. You have to be assertive, and even still they can shit on you.

Honestly going to less crowded showings in smaller theaters with unreserved seating is far less stressful. You can jeer at the movie and there's nobody there to make you feel awkward because you need to use the bathroom. Reserved seating is for fucking Europeans.
