dice clay's entire career was a set up for the punchline that is "the day the laugher died". he was at utter rockstar god status at the time and selling out arenas with his pre-written schtick, and decided to play a dangerfield's filled with people who'd been shitting on him up until then and do 90 minutes of improvised sociopathic self destructive material.
