I thought all this Snyder was nonsense, trolling or contrarianism, but when my dad told me it was better than Civil War, I decided to give it another shot. I'm currently one hour in through the movie and I'm finding this much more enjoyable this time.
>Soundtrack is good. Thanks Zimmer.
>Tone is perfect. I haven't realized how childish Marvel movies are until I went on an 80s movie streak for the last month (thanks for the recommendation, Anon), and noticed how there isn't A SINGLE GOOD ACTION SEQUENCE in Marvel movies. It's really stupid when you think about it: "We are the police and we'll joke while shooting people in the head." Yeah, no. Moreover, the atmosphere isn't dark, it just doesn't sparkle with balloons like Marvel movies. BvS is like Nolan's trilogy all over again. It's not really dark, it's just that I'd been staring at the sun for the too long and couldn't see under proper light. This is how battles should be handled. Thanks Snyder.
>Don't get me wrong. I am (was?) an admitted Marvel shill, but I've realized that all that quipping will essencially ruin Spiderman. Spiderman was supposed to be the comic relief with an always optimistic view when things turn dark, but Marvel refuses effusively to make things serious. I'll discuss this in another thread.
>Lex is good. At first I had a bad reaction to his little crazy persona, but now I realize that he fits much more in current views of genius: excentric and a little bit anti-social. His reasons for being bad seem fairly good.
>They made the beginning shorter, right? That car sequence from the beginning seem much shorter than the first time I watched it.
>Maybe the plot was better elaborated on the UE, but I find it much more enjoyable and followable now. Maybe Zack is 2deep4me?
>>
>>71877305
However:
>This time I realized how much I dislike Gadot. Now that I'm aware of who she is in the plot, I'm positively pissed on their choice of Wonder Woman.
>That Batbattle on the desert. I don't get it. Batman doesn't have premonitions, how could he know about those flying fuckers from Darkseid?
>Did he dream about that Flash time travel?

I'm liking the movie more and more every passing second. Hold on. I'll probably apologize in two hours.
>>
>another shill thread
>>
>>71877328
I think the cringe factor goes down the more you go through it. Like the martha scene and what not.

It's like Gods Among Us, it's a good looking movie, but the script is wasted on such amazing actors. It doesn't really push them to any boundaries. Afflec in the start was one of the few times, but after that it's just vanilla. I really like how the actors work in Marvel movies.

It's true that Avengers is a garbage movie, but like a lot of Joss Whedon shit, he gets some really enjoyable actors to just talk. It's good dialogue when the actors do it, but as for the actual dialouge itself, it's pretty bland. It's balanced though amongst the chracters, but Snyder lacks that. He didn't really make it feel like a Superman movie. There wasn't much of him in there and when it was it was just... bland.

I mean it's nuiances that you don't understand when you come to it by yuorself, but it's like Clint Eastwood in Good Bad and Ugly, good chracters just talking and it's immersive. It brings life to a pretty mundane script.

Frankly, I like the clint eastwood style more then the traditional Arnold Action Flicks (minus the conan movies obviously)

I love to see fleshed out chracters, and the fact that half the chracters in the movie don't even have dialogue, presence, meaning, or even an ounce of depth is what bothers people.

I doubt they can voice it properly too. But this why a lot of people enjoy TV shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and what not.

Good chracters, well acted, you could just follow them around like Big Brother it feels like, even though it's completely fake.

Batman v Superman is so bad DC may have tanked their entire cinematic universe already.

You can bet your asses WB Exec's are fucking terrified that Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman might flop. Batman v Superman's gross was frontloaded as fuck and dropped HARD, only meeting the absolute bare minimum of box office expectations. It was entirely sold on hype and goodwill from fans, and the movie was complete shit, and everyone knows it. Everyone saw that Sad Affleck meme video, and the cultural consensus is, by and large, that BvS sucked. Is anyone really excited for Suicide Squad or Wonder Woman? Even fucking Justice League? Do normies know that movie is coming out? They're already a billion in the hole for this franchise, and it's not taking off like they hoped it would.
>>
>>71878986
Do you not know how music is written for film?

They literally have the final cut in front of them and they write around the images.

The music was written AROUND the visual of the footsteps, the footsteps weren't filmed to be in time with pre existing score
>>
>>

The script is God-tier. You just didn't see the full picture.

The Martha scene and Eisenberg's performance are more nuanced than people give them credit for.

OP here. A few questions:
>Why does Batman attack to kill the security guards transporting the kryptonite? They are just that: security guards. It's not like they have done anything wrong and Batman has no reason to bring them down. It would be akin to killing that police officer with the shotgun.

And while BvS isnt best movie ever made or anything, it is - along with man of steel - the only superhero movie that actually dares to try something new, to break conventions and at the same time tell an interesting story.
Throughout all of MoS and BvS you can feel that someone put a great deal of work and effort into conveying his/their version of batman/superman.

By comparison civil war and AoU feel like they were made by a boardroom of executives working off a checklist of things they perceive as being currently hip.

Dude, I don't think anyone will argue with you that Spiderman was kind of halfassedly inserted into the movie, but at least he's charismatic and has a good rapport with the rest of the cast.

A character like Wonder Woman in BvS has absolutely no stake in anything and has no reason to be there, she shares 2 or 3 scenes with Batman and doesn't even interact with Superman. Gal Gadot also has the screen presence of a wooden plank.

>Soundtrack.
Good most of the time, but some of it is really over the top and overbearing. Iconic themes are nice, but music that's incongruent or which takes precedence over the scene isn't great.

>Tone is perfect
I guess...? It depends on the movie's goals really. If you watch a lot of marvel in a row then its lightness and childishness will be progressively worse. And if you watch super serious, dower, dreary, pessimistic movies it'll also get bad. Each tone suits its goals I think although generally Marvel is less suitable in the sense that it isn't as "realistic".

But then, I think they're supposed to be more fantastical movies. DC movies have been dark. There are direct murders that aren't necessary, and there's strange filters or lighting in many occassions.

>Lex is good
*was*.

I actually like Jesse Eisenberg and I liked his Lex early on, but his motivations are idiotic with only the semblance of rationalization provided by sophomoric philosophy.

I definitely agree that genius is portrayed as "anti-social". If you look at Steve Jobs or Zuckerman they're seen as controlling, driven, and charismatic but only to the public. This is exactly how Lex is in comics and how he would have been good.

Now in the movies he's already pinned as a maniac and we'll never see him get to be a mastermind behind other badguys or events.

I'm tired of this shit. These aren't even the biggest issues. The biggest issue that still stands is unforgivably sloppy editing and motivation. The movie could have been stream lined and made into a coherent and visceral 2 hour movie or so.
>>

Im kind of annoyed that you're making me type this out because it is so very fucking obvious but alright

They establish throughout the whole movie that this Superman isnt the literal God he was in previous incarnations of the character.
However, every single person on the entire planet with the exception of a handful of people (Lois Lane, Bruce Wayne etc.) still perceive him to be just that.
This causes Superman and - basically - the entire world to face an existential crisis that kevin costner predicted in MoS.
Superman knows that he cant save every last person on earth and how fucking could he? This is besides the point but those tacked-on shots of reeves/routh flying around the world to save 3 specific civilians in trouble or whatever just to play it safe were always lame.

The statue/monument of superman erected, shown repeatedly throught the movie, is a metaphor for the most urgent paradox of the situation the world and superman find themselves in: If God is all powerful he cant be all good blablabla.
Sorry I'm losing patience so I'll just hurry this up now.
Throughout the movie everyone hates superman because that they dont have an answer to this question frightens them.
In the end superman saves them and dies for them, during which the monument is destroyed.
By dying, Superman showed the world and himself that he isnt allpowerful, but that he is all good. Ultimate lawful good, as superman should be.
This makes everyone like him.
And so they do this for him.

If you need me to explain why that has emotional impact I'm going to have to resort to calling autism.

You expect me to believe that this master manipulator failed to account for the psychological impact of parents being murdered.
Failed to spot that Jonathon Kent died, a potential common ground.
Failed to account for the mothers having the same name, thus, common ground.
Failed to anticipate they might TALK to each other.

Sorry, don't buy it. Martha scene is just as retarded in the context of the narrative as it is to the viiewer.

You convinced me it makes LESS SENSE, not more. Well done.

>>71884404
See above, climb a wall of dicks.
>>
>>71883781
>how so?

Batman has been able to deduce Superman's identity in just about every comic in which they encounter each other, Batman is also very fastidious and has a file on everyone he meets, even a nobody reporter like Clark Kent

>he did

No, not really, he had his chance when he stopped the Batmobile, but decided to threaten him instead
>>
>>71884587
watch the ultimate edition
>>
>>71884556
You still don't seem to understand why Batman stopped, even after being spoonfed it several times.

Either way, Lex STILL accounted for it with Doomsday.
>>
>>71884601
I have. It doesn't address his points at all.
>>
>>71884556
I too found Lex's plans and the Martha scene ridiculous.
Until I remembered I was watching a COMIC BOOK movie, with comic book evil antagonist plans, and comic book resolutions and twists.
There were a lot of things to hate other than this. Like "El Flasho".
>>
>>71884636
And you still didn't read a damn thing I said. Whatever, I shouldn't expect anything else.
>>
>>71884636
>Either way, Lex STILL accounted for it with Doomsday.

Lex didn't account for shit

The movie tries to tell us that Lex is some master manipulator, but it doesn't do it very convincingly

Again, Lex seems to magically know Batman's secret identity
>>
>>71883833
>it's literally because Thomas said Martha as he died
That was literally a ripoff of the Rosebud scene from Citizen Kane.
>>
>>71884556
what does the above have to do with the perception argument? So you don't have a point and respond with an insult, k then fuktard.
>>
>>71884724
I have, basically you're saying that Lex's plan is stupid because he didn't account for a series of coincidences, and in the end he actually did because he had a contingency plan readily available.
>>
>>71884641
superman tries to persuade batman right before the fight started and batman doesn't listen, not in the theatrical version if i recall.
>>
>>71884710
Just saying it's a comic book film shouldn't be a free pass on lazy writing.

Sure, El Flasho's Inception Dream Enabling Speed Force

Next Movies as an attachment

Poorly utilised Doomsday, Death of Superman and Dark Knight

Superrman flying around the globe in a heartbeat to save Louis, twice, but suddenly powerless when mom is in peril

There are lots of issues.
And if you try to raise them?

Are you pretending to be retarded? Because we just gave you incredibly clear explanations for why you're wrong and all you've done is gone "no ur wrong"
>>
>>71884970
You failed to engage with any point I made. Instead you explained what was already understood. It's like you can't or won't come to my level. It's just irritating.
>>
>>71885035
reading this post: >>71884556
just indicates to me you don't actually understand why Batman stops, since you think Lex could've created his plans around that fact without it being an incredibly ridiculous gamble. Whereas having Doomsday as a backup is legitimate in case something incredibly coincidental like that happened.
>>
>>71885195
And Doomsday wasn't a ridiculous gamble? What if Doomsday had won? Now an unstoppable monster is rampaging around the world, and it's all Lex's fault. Heck, the first thing Doomsday does when he wakes up is try to kill Lex.
>>
>>71884556
Lex was expecting them to not be able to communicate effectively, with Batman obsessed and enthused at taking on Superman, and Superman in a rush to rescue his mom.

Also Batman's obsession with trying to be a hero(excalibur reference) led him to respond to M artha in a personal way, because his fight against Superman was so ego driven, he took it as though it could be some sort of sign in his search for meaning.
>>
>>71884908
More insults, as expected so you don't have a response.
>>
>>71885261
Doomsday was a a gamble, but like I said it was just a backup in case something coincidental like Batman having a trauma trigger moment makes him stop fighting Clark, but at the same time Lex was under the impression he would have some control over it due to having his genetic material, or, a big leap since it's not really stated, that they'd be able to kill it with kryptonite somehow, it quickly became something that blew up in Lex's face.

Doesn't make it bad writing.
>>
>>71885195
And reading your failed attempt at understanding exhausts me. I can only conclude you, for whatever reason CANNOT understand the points made or actively choose to IGNORE the points made in favour of making up your own version.

Either way, there is nothing to gain any more.

See this guy? >>71885281 He gets it. He has seen and understood what's written, been willing to engage and made a valid point.

>>71885281
That does make sense, and whilst I feel I'll always disagree on the execution, the idea itself seems thought through.

Tons of things happen during the movie that Lex had no control over

What if Batman figured out Superman's identity before MARTHA?
What if Superman had convinced Batman not to fight him when he confronted Batman in the Batmobile?
What if Wonder Woman did... Anything of note?
>>
>>71885562
I was working under the assumption you understood those simple things since that's what half the movie was about.
>>
>>71881916
>>71881809

>>
>>71885815
I just mean it seemed obvious to me, not trying to be condescending, I'm usually terrible at analyzing films so I assumed it would've been pretty clear given Bruce's interactions with Alfred.
>>
>>71885759
>the movie is facist
Jesus fucking Christ. Batman is presented as a villain in the movie. You're supposed to be disturbed, even frightened if you're high enough. The movie essentially tells the audience that vigilantism is a path of ruin. All it does it destroy you and make what you hate stronger. That's A message at least. Fucking hell it's all thrown like a pie at your face, it's that blatant.
>>
>>71877305
I never bothered to go to the cinema and the BD version seems decent. What did they add?
>>
BvS failed. I can appreciate that they "tried" to be different than Marvel, it just did not work. They should have just copied Marvel and put out a few more movies first. Superman deserved to have at least two more movies. Batman could have had two movies. They could have seeded those two movies with Lex pulling strings, New Gods shit, and metahumans. Built it up to BvS. But no! They had to play catch up with Marvel and made a mess of a movie. They said fuck foreplay, we're just going to blow our wad right now.
>>
>>71886023
A lot of scenes explaining motivations and background. Movie version makes most of the events look confusing because they are half presented.
>>
>>71885890
It's ok. I give up. My point here >>71885562
Unchanged. I'm erring more now to choosing to ignore. Well done. You got me. Good bait you asshole.
>>
>>71886155
It's not baiting because you don't understand things. Your entire argument is hinged on the fact that you think they would have the time to talk, that Bruce would be willing to listen and that Clark would bring up the name Martha to quicky resolve their differences.

(and to me the context of martha being brought up was more important than it just being brought up)
>>
>>71885928
That's not how a lot of ppl interpret it. They assume going in that Batman is going to be the hero.
A podcast I listen to, /Filmcast (which would get instantly slammed here as sjw btw) they came away after seeing the film with the impression that Snyder absolutely hate Superman as a character and with the impression that Batman's tactics of branding criminals is horrifying, but that the movie implies that it's a good thing. Now I have to say that I think they're probably overeacting a bit, but I think that in The Dark Knight Returns for instance, Batman doing immoral shit is shown a lot clearer where as here it's not as clear if you're supposed to be disturbed or not.
>>
>>71886625
he is portrayed as villainous in his ideals and motivations, he's not really committing incredibly heinous acts since everything he does is justifiable in some way.

Alfred is kind of meant to be the viewer watching "classic" batman's slow descent into anti-hero territory (obviously starting off halfway through)
>>
>>71886625
>That's not how a lot of ppl interpret it.
Then they're silly motherfucking bitches, friendo. "Criminals are likes weeeeeeds, Alfred. 20 years in Gotham yadda yadda my parents (and my ward) died in a gutter for no reason at all" It is even in the trailers!

Something I still don't understand.

Why was Lex in the movie at all? What the fuck is he trying to do?

The obvious answer is "Getting Superman and Batman to fight", and there's two problems with that: There's literally zero reason for him to do any of this, at least, none that's adequately communicated to the audience, and two, Superman and Batman were clearly going to fight ANYWAY. You could have excised Lex from the movie entirely and you'd remove a good hour and a half of the movie's runtime, but literally nothing of any thematic value.
