I kind of loved that twist, even though it probably made the show worse in the long run.
I remember watching Season 4 being nervous about who was in the coffin that was going to die, then it was revealed it was Locke and I was like "Oh. Oh well... guess I worried for nothing, there's no way he's staying dead. They don't have the balls." Locke was just too central to the whole thing and Terry O'Quinn was just too good for me to not have already predicted he would be resurrected, then they pulled that switcheroo at the end of the next season and it was like "holy fuck, that isn't Locke. They really did do it."
I mean, just compare that to Game of Thrones and the pandering ofJon Snow's resurrection and him being validated as this all important Jesus figure with a secret lineage, it has a bigger reputation as the show where anyone can die but they didn't have the balls to follow that through, but I suppose as clever as it was that was LOST's mistake.
I mean, sometimes you have to be predictable and follow certain rules or a storyline just falls completely apart. So as impactful as the twist was, it showed how haphazard it all was and how Lindelof didn't know what he was doing. Plus they came up with some ridiculous ideas to keep Locke/Terry O'Quinn on the show that detracted from the tragedy of it, the character still felt very much alive. But the show was getting bad regardless and I really enjoyed the deconstruction of a beloved, but ultimately self-absorbed character like he was.

Is anyone else disappointed by how the others are portrayed throughout the series? L O S Tis a great show with good characters and it's comfy as fuck the whole way through. It was a bit misleading with where it was going but there were never really any glaring plotholes that weren't explained, most people just didn't like how they were dealt with.

I liked that about Jack. At the start of the show (shown both on island and in flashbacks) he's obsessive and controlling, he wants to fix everything and can't stand those that go along with Locke's "have faith" outlook. He's pretty annoying to watch at times because the slightest thing triggers his autism so hard.
Over time he learns to just stops giving a shit and adopts more of a "whatever happens, happens" attitude.

best LOST husbando reporting in
I still dont get the ending, they were dead all along?
Fantastic show; one of the best.
But with a bit more forethought and less uncertainty in the grand plan, it could have been THE best.
I was always a bit let down by the ending. Cynically, the purgatory thing was the deus-ex-machina the writers' needed by virtue of the huge hole they slowly dug themselves in (hence my comment that more forethought would have really come through for the series). By portraying the journey to purgatory as occurring AFTER the events on the island (rather than say they were all dead the whole time) they cheaply avoided any criticism that 'nothing mattered' on the island. If that makes sense?
I think it would have been more satisfying to have the MiB plot run alongside the Jughead plot as the finale. They saved the world by stopping MiB in the present, meanwhile a group stuck in the past saved the people by creating the alternate timeline (which wouldn't be a red herring- perhaps in a reversal it could have made you think it was purgatory)

I loved Lost. I had proper water cooler talk about it. Unlike Game of Thrones where it is all "That's so cool!" "Go Daeneryssss!"
I remember all the theories people had. Staying up to watch episodes a week early. All those cool ideas.
Then boom. It got shit. Also I remeber watch a mystery showcalled Invasion about the same time. Great show with aliens. Cancelled after one season..

>>71873315
>Is there a point that LOST becomes bad?
If you're watching the show expecting everything to be answered? Yes
If not, no.
>>71878900
But it did get bad. By about mid season 3 there was a lot of things off about it. And it wasn't just not explaining things. It was that they chucked loads more shit in. Introduced some rubbish characters only to kill them off - (Remember that couple who died?)
Flashbacks etc were bad. There was still some golden episodes (like The constant) but mid season 3 is where the quality really dips.
Season 1 is some fine ass television.

For some reason I find it so enduring that the final line of the show is Locke telling Jack that they've been waiting for him. Considering before Locke died Jack hated him but by season six Jack is basically taken on Locke's cause and belief and to know that in death they are finally together and happy is so heart warming. That line can also be viewed as Locke saying I've been waiting for you to come around to what I was always telling you.
>>71872761
Pretty much this.
The show should have ended with a cliched epic confrontation and fist fight between Jack and Lock while the Island is exploding around them.
>>71884667
So much feel....and then dat awful dub

Why wouldn't he go through? His character had a tragic fate, but hey, not everything is happy and sunshine.
>>71885116

While I disagree with you about his story being bad because I liked it I do agree it was bullshit that after season five people still called him Locke. They knew he wasn't Locke but only Jack pointed out it wasn't him.
