Plus, it ties in well with the idea of the force being out of balance so long as any dark side exists: it's not supposed to be Yin and Yang. It's not in baalnce at 50/50 dark and light. It's in balance once it is restored to one whole state.
And then you've got to come up with a reason for it to split in the first place, and the first ever murder would not be a bad place for that to start. It's powerful both in the context of the story itself, as well as being strong thematically and symbolically.
Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I like it. It's ballsy, and could end up fucking up the series, but if it's handled well, it could be absolutely fantastic.

Sith are evil for lusting after power but the Jedi order is evil as well for taking children from their parents homes forever, striping them of most emotions like love, forcing them into an army for a rotting democracy.
The force only came into balance with the death of all practioneers of these poisonous ideologies. Luke was the first true Force Wielder in generations. He rejected the dumb parts of the Jedi ways like having to kill his father as Obi-Wan and Yoda wanted to force him to or not being able to marry.
Luke would have re-founded a sensible force monastery and not blindly followed generations out of date manuals.
