Just wanted to say to you filmbros
RYMs community is cancer
Letterboxd has nearly the same if not better functionality for film, and a much better community. I'm not counting you guys because I have no idea, but you're all probably much less horrible than those bratty imps.

Don't bother using Cinemos, and if you use RYM for film, then quit.

Outliers and picked cherries don't matter. Neither does the fact that there are trans users (I'm not from /pol/). What matters is that the majority of RYM users are pieces of shit, and Letterboxd has a very broad userbase and a system that isn't as rewarding to attention whores.

There's so much to praise about it. The titular scene was very hard to watch, despite very little in the way of gore. I can't imagine a contemporary film handling it so well. I suppose if I were to make one criticism it would be that the fight scene at the end wasn't that great.

So Brits, what did you think of The Neon Demon?
>>
>>71840201
I thought it was great.

Basically a high-concept, high-budget exploitation movie.

really glad I went to the cinema to see it, can't imagine id enjoy nearly as much as home. As a great man Mr Ramshaw once said, it is not a film, but an experience

I don't think it's a masterpiece, but it's the sort of thing I'm glad gets made, just completely boldly and confidently weird
>>
>>71840505
Ah cool, exactly what I thought as well actually, it's obvious where Refn takes from his exploitation crap inspiration and sort of elevates it in the way he does.

Will admit that I didn't like it as much as Drive or Only God Forgives but your last point is spot on - I'm so pleased it was made.

As a side note - what kind of cinema did you see it in? Because I thought it was supposed to be a indie/arthouse movie but I had to see it in a Showcase, and I know Odeon has it in other cities as well.
>>
http://letterboxd.com/voexodus/

>>71840201
Another fantastic work from Refn. From camera work, lighting/visuals, music, all top notch. All around theme of beauty and narcissism shown exceptionally well. Everyone should see it at the big screen if possible.
>>
>>71840644
I saw it at the Home cinema in Manchester which is my favourite place in the world right now while I am here, but I did see it's also playing at the Odeon and AMC near here which surprised me

Did you get any walk-outs? We had someone stomp out like 2 mins after the necrophilia scene so thought we had one but then she stomped back in a few minutes later so I assume she needed to pee and just walks like that

I'd say we had 40-50ish people maybe? On the Sat night. Thought it would be busier that it was for peak time, and it's the kind of cinema that would attract people interested in that sort of thing, they played in the biggest room too

I'm using a phone to type rn and I'm not articulate in the slightest but all of those movies, despite being ground breaking are no where near as perfect as people constantly tell me they are.
The pacing and dialogue in LA'avventura is weak. They go from friends to lovers at the drop of hat after searching for the girl for about ten mins
Breathless is a simple story executed well but lacks depth and let itself down by trying to incorporate philosophical concepts instead of running with it's simplicity like LA balloon rouge did.
Breathless is a great insight into France back in the day and how life as a troubled kid was but it didn't resonate with me .
I liked all of the aforementioned despite them not really being my thing as I like tragic mumble core movies more than anything and respect them for what they have contributed to cinema but in MY opinion they are not five star movies

You don't get a check mark from critique of L'Avventura with one sentence that's (misguided) and poorly elaborated.

Try again with post the length of a post limit, and this time only focus one one film and one film only.

Take your time, it's fine if it takes you even a week. Preferably, rewatch the film before it.
>>
>>71841990
I thought it was decent, told a fun and harmless story but wasn't all there formally as far as I'm concerned.

>>71842384
That's not true man, I really don't give a shit about the whole vulgar auteur thing. The Neon Demon struck me as lazy - far too assembled in post after Refn admitted on film that he wasn't so into shooting coverage. As a result, the film's stillness and lack of activity seemed to be born not out an intentional stylistic choice like OGF and more out of necessity because Refn was too insistent on shooting beautiful still images like a photograph and not like a film.

Street Fighter was essentially a reaction against the patently false popular opinion that the movie is "bad". It's a campy fun kid's movie, but it's not formally or tonally broken like a "bad movie". Everything is consistent in the garish way in which it's presented and I guess some people can't see that the film's exactly what it wants to be while also satisfyingly capturing the original game's spirit.

Old varies, so I disagree. And it is tragedy when someone still on their peak like Kiarostami gets taken out by cancer in a semester. It's always bad when great ones goes.

Is it possible to truly appreciate and understand film without ever having experienced love?

when so much of cinema (particularly art house cinema) revolves around human relationships and intimacy and desire, how can you really claim to understand it when you have no frame of reference or experience yourself?
