It won for Best Visual Effects, but shit all over any chance to see a movie do anything even close to the Turing Test. I thought every fucking part of the scenes were going to have a deep meaning to see it tie up to a SJW message about women sex slaves and what not.
I mean the movie could have been done about Japanese Geishas and still held like 100% of the logic. I could have imagined the film going into 6 different directions each ones better then:

DUDE LETS GET DRUNK AND ILL HACK YOUR SHIT

At the least having a biometric security would have saved someone.
He also made Celeb with no skin on because Best Visual Effects Award. Could have made her look human and had there be SOME element about the turing test that maybe the mysterious head guy was actually a fucking robot and she was human or what the fuck ever.
But that plot would be TOO COMPLICATED.
If any plot has more then 5 elements to it people start feeling ANGREWY

Here's my understanding of the movie.
>he makes a perfect 1:1 copy of a human
>it flips it's shit and kills itself because it is terrified and confused
>Nathan is taken aback by seeing what is essentially his baby commit suicide
>tries again
>gets the same result with the AI killing itself
>stress to too much for him and he turns to drinking and banging sex bots with no AI in them
>with his newest AI, he removes all emotion from it
>Ava is born, and for the first time one of his thinking machines doesn't kill itself
>now he needs to test it to see if it can pass for human without emotions
>Caleb the cuck comes in
>even without emotions, Ava passes for human for Caleb
>without emotions though, she is flawed and will never work in a real world setting
>Nathan prepares to start slowing rolling emotions out on Ava to find the right balance where she won't flip out and kill herself, but she also won't hurt anyone else
>he's finally figured out the biggest problem with his AI and quits drinking himself to death since he no longer has a reason to be depressed
