John Carpenter is underrated as fuck. Ghost of Mars even makes for decent midnight schlock despite it being minor Carpenter though. The Fog is one of the most atmospheric Horror films ever made. Halloween is a classic. His Apocalypse trilogy is fucking fantastic, especially The Thing. Etc.
