Why must sci-fi be ruined with relationshit. Stargate didn't need it, and it got 10 seasons, two spin offs, and more shitty movies than I can count

Other than that I'm loving this season so far
>>
>>71785350
Probably. The character was shit and his alter ego was cooler. Sot the alter ego might become One of the crew
>>
>>71784293

I don't know how I feel about them killing off One and fridging Six. It doesn't feel like original Dark Matter without all crew members not having their memories.

And is it just me, or does it seem like Dark Matter and Killjoys take place in the same universe?

One isn't dead. People are never dead in scifi, friend. It's one of the rules. I give it three eps tops before he's back, or they've done some voodoo trickery to make the other One think he's the first One

And I think they're leaving the shared universe thing kind of vague on purpose. Future crossover eps can't be ruled out, they bring in ratings. But the universes don't seem all that similar despite the future setting and companies ruling everything. They actual tech and general design of everything seem too different. But again, scifi, can't rule anything out

I'm caught up. I'm letting episode 2 buffer right now. Thanks for the heads up anyway.

I'm too lazy to go back and take a screenshot, but I got a laugh out of the prop they were using in the background when 3 was talking to that gang leader. Cheep ass spencer's gifts light thing. I mean, I know it's pretty common for that to happen in sci-fi, but it stood out to me for some reason.

I think that's exactly why that one prop stood out to me.

I've got a friend who works as an engineer at a water treatment facility (read: he's a poo miner) and on multiple shows we've watched together, including Dark Matter, he's pointed out a set that was in a water treatment facility.

the female at the end is obviously too cocky and stupid to do any harm to the raza
>>
>>71789350

I think she is the mother of 5. Or a sister or something.

she seems related.

I'm hoping Corso is being used. 1 should be too smart to get plugged randomly like that. Otherwise his wife was killed in a corporate takeover plot and he was sidelined like a chump.

I don't even really like his character and it kind of eats at me.

I do hope real corso makes it into main story if they really did kill him off, my thinking is he faked his death and he used corso to do it so he could go back under and find out who really killed his wife, and it will most likely lead back to his family friend that took over his company.
>>
>>71789425

to amend this, it wouldn't take much to use transit people to make a fake clone self that gets 'killed'
>>
>>71789493
fucking hell, he's dead, Jace is better get over it One always sucked
>>
>>71789350
>>71789425
I have a feeling that they are trying to get us to think she has sinister plans for them, but I feel like they are going to go a different direction with her.

As for 1, I feel like that was way to anti-climactic of a death for what at least was a main character. Maybe he has access to better cloning technologies than we are aware of. Perhaps he had already gotten a body double, we already know they can surgically duplicate a person with near perfect accuracy. Hell, maybe we'll find out that he was another android, or he'll turn out to be an alien or some other bullshit. We don't know all the rules of this show's universe yet. I'm not saying he isn't dead and replaced with Corso, but I'm doubting that he's gone for good.

I'll gladly laugh about it if I'm wrong though, because I agree with >>71789563. He's sucked since episode one, and if they actually did just kill him off like that because fans didn't like him, it would be pretty funny.
>>
>>71789725
>>71789563

I'm not saying he didn't have a shitty characterization, just saying the people writing this show rarely ever truly kill off characters.

One is dead and the raza is set on a journey to find the corp that want them dead. Its probably one of their past jobs they forgot about but the corp did not forget. The lady at the end is most likely the corporation owner that 5 talked about last season. You know the one she convinced her friend to board the Raza because they stole some super high end tech from some guy at the bar. The little circuit board she showed the android and six. But neither know what it does.

It being "really" good or the gay vibes? If it's the gay vibes you might be right, it's probably just because everyone else in the GA or whatever the hell it is, seems borderline sociopathic. Even that tech guy working on the Android had that creepy moment where he gloated while he was shoving pins into her head.
>>
>>71790150

I think goggles telling android to kill a bunch of GA people was a much bigger deal, A) they had her order deaths, B) GA are part boogeymen of the universe that they did not even want to tangle with last season.
>>
>>71790197
Oh, I'm sure they moved to the top of the GA shit list, I just meant they could have drawn out the prison escape longer. I'm sure at least one of the noob crew members will bite it within a few episodes, as payback.

>>71790302
>71790302

GA represents the government the way army is usually represented in westerns so it definitely won't be good but combines seem to have as much power as a hurst style organization.

I think sociopathic. >>71790150

behavior is more them trying to convey that they do not see synthetics as people.
>>
>>71790019
They amp up the production value this season and the writing. I think they're trying to compete with the Expanse which is a show that should be on HBO or Netflix. The Expanse is going to get bloody next season. The books become more fucked up and darker as you get into the later books. It pretty much a well refined version of GOT without the cheese.
>>
>>71790311
That part where the work buddy begs 6 not to "go down" with the Raza crew while fighting back tears felt a bit over the top in the emotion department, that's all I'm sayin. It wouldn't have been out of place if he'd ended his rant with "think of us!"
>>
>>71790395

They're not even half way done with the first book which has a weird ending and captain rocinate needs to get his face punched a few times.

I just hope the show lasts long enough that we get to see the ending of the second book, its my favorite moment.

I also think The Expanse has one of the higher expense values per episode so I doubt canadian tv industry is matching that.

You can look up price per episode of the Expanse, it is way way out of the league of Killjoys/DarkMatter
>>
>>71790422
Two dudes (especially since they were partners?) can care about eachother without it being gay
>>
>>71790395
The Expanse needs all the money, all of it, never read the books and don't indend too until the show is finished its that fucking good.
>>
>>71790443
Can they?
>>
>>71790446
Read the books. They're just like the show but with a darker tone. Its like GOT without the cheese and subpar powerplay politics. They even have a huge fuckign war by the fourth book. Mars and Earth go to war but I'll leave to you to find out why.
>>71790435
The Expanse is funded by Scfy in the US with Canadian tax breaks. I get the feeling the scfy might sell the IP rights to HBO. GRRM likes the show and considers it the next big lore. But SCFY will justify the expense because of the massive ratings, awards, ad money and great publicity it bring to the network. Also Dark matter is still in teh first book?
>>
she should have been candice everdeen

I like the show but it's annoying how the sets and props are all recycled Stargate stuff.
>>

I understand and it will be years. They're still writing new books. Book 5 just came out. Plus they have short stories as well. The fucking show just draws you in and create a huge fucking world behind the story. I got hooked at the end of season 1 with the girl father being behind the whole mess of season 1 but his angle is not known. We also find out that the Ambassador to Mars may have been assassinated which drew me in, so I read the books. It get fucking more addicting. The twists are very organic and not forced. Something I expect from quality shows which win golden globes.
>>
>>71784327

>>
>>71785350
Probably a clone, because reasons and they don't have the balls to kill one.
>>
>>71790595
yep in for the long haul, I'm committed to not reading it until the show is done, which will be hard I read fast and I've got a kindle so I'm maybe five mins from getting everything published, but I'm going to try and not read the sauce material this time.
>>
So the black guy and the shot guy got jobs on other shows or something? That was a quick crew reformatting.

Also, how much more money is this getting? Sets for the prison and the vfx overall looks miles better than anything in the previous season.
>>
>>71790762
Well, for all we know they will both be brought right back in the next episode. Hell, even if they did actually kill off one, I would be surprised if we don't see more of Corso in the very near future.
>>
I really should get around to watching the expanse.
>>
>>71790521
You know The Expanse isn't bringing to the network? Ratings

Its ratings are abysmal for the money syfy is shelling out. I would be shocked if we get a season 3 unless a big change occurs.
>>
>>71790788
That was the weird thing. I didn't expect they were going to get rid of or put that character on ice until we find out he murdered his wife. Also, specificity of the season format: it's too big a twist not to use it at a halfway point/end of season. So either he got a really well paying job or he's back the next ep. Black guy i dunno. Feel like he's been indeterminately postponed. No reason to shove him in the freezer otherwise.
>>
Did anyone else reverse image search to find the porn OP's pic from from?
>>
>>71790984

I feel like elements of the show are stylized holdovers from BSG/SGU with continuing story arcs, since SG1 usually reset to status quo at end of every episode, I think they're trying to break that mold honestly.
>>
>>71790842
Please do. I usually hate TV sci-fi (and I'd never manage through s1 of DM without the android) and Expanse is pretty fucking special. And like >>71790847 says, it could use some figures.

You got to have at least some likable characters to keep a show going no matter how good it looks or how excellent the setting/world building is.

Miller is kind of a nonentity until near the end of the season while Holden is an unlikable prick throughout, don't know if its the actor of the writing.

I was more invested in that gook mars captain and her crew in that one episode than I was in any of the main cast. Thats a problem.
>>
>>71791272
thing is those friends I was talking about, massive tom jane fans, him playing a broken alcoholic detective on a run down space station is pure kino, but they don't even know it exists...until I told them
>>
>>71791098
It's pretty fucking bizarre this day and age where media spends more money on promotion than production that you get a show that looks like it spends every penny on production alone. It's bound to fare well if they're aiming to create something that's going to have cult status bc of its quality but it isn't a gameplan that's functional indefinitely. I hope it pays off for them. I guess tv sci-fi has a terrible rep that isn't helping.

the bsg remake had 2 things going for it, a smaller media environment and the fact their advertising was targeted to people outside of scifi

now scifi channel isnt even scifi channel, they lost majority of their core fans and replaced it with shit like wrestling fans.

they were getting better ratings with the Sg1(tenth season) sga (4th or 5th season) and BSG on its last season than they've been getting with their new shows.

Their highest rated original show they canceled because of expenses. I think that kind of says it all really.

I reckon the Roci captain guy is a complete wet blanket but the cop is pretty fucking spot on. I don't think much of Thomas Jane's acting acumen but he plays the noir-esque self-destructive PI with a good amount of panache. And personally, I'd rather characters are unlikeable to the majority than characters that are just blatant pandering shit (see, Firefly) or copies of other, more popular characters (see, most of DM's 6).

That she should pepper her angus.
>>
>>71791488

he's actually kind of worse in the books and Miller is more or less exactly what I thought but in a way they made miller better and in a way they made him completely different..

Like they changed trade offs, in tv series they gave him a spine (Dealing with terrorists, imminent death through being space'd etc) and in books he was even more clever, he just never realized he was 'the guy' and then he became a joke on the force until someone told him what he had become.

There's a missing vulnerabiltiy that only came out once they got more into the later Julia stuff that revealed it.

So they changed things around but no matter what, tv or book, Miller floats the whole deal.
>>

I liked that they've really had Amos be a totally amoral sociopath rather than trying to make him likeable. They've actually made that come across better than it does in the books.

The authors repeatedly STATE that he's supposed to basically be a serial killer who's incapable of identifying right from wrong so he just uses Naomi as his moral compass, but then they have him be pretty compassionate and heroic even without being told to.

Show Amos is just downright amoral left to his own devices.

Haven't read the books here, so I'm just speaking of what I think works for the show/tv. We can completely agree on Amos. The Amos/Naomi interplay is easily the best thing about the crew, which is even active when they're apart and someone else has to deal with Amos' unpredictability, all the while Naomi is out hiding something about hiding something. Pilot dude is solid, too but I'd like that if one of the crew is going to be martian because [nationalistic infighting], that he'd be more like the sergeant dude that gets shot when they nab the Roci.

earthers are more socialists, and martians everyone needs to pool for the cause definitely comes off like commies bro

Fuckin' A. Stronk wymyn is bleh but what I really care about when it comes to character interplay is that there's someone that is unflinchingly straight-shooting, so to speak. Sci-fi is always a good place to have characters with extremist-tier beliefs/moral codes that don't seem inherently retarded and who create tension in a group.

Doesn't bother me so much because she's supposed to be fuckheug so it's not like most sci-fi where they have a 5' 4" woman with no muscle magically able to overpower/intimidate heavily muscled males twice her size. The actress is 6ft tall apparantly too.

>>
>>71792042

you have to define 'straight shooting' your description is rather vague and wide at same time.

Miller is pretty much terminator in space. to the point that even the mass murderer guy blinks when Miller does shit.

Bobbi, she is a straight shooter in a sense that while she is flexible compared to other martians, she is military to her core and comes off like that in books, she comes to realize that if Mars ever gets its shit together, no matter what they will more or less end up just like Earth because eventually they will have a ton of people to deal with as well and she kind of laughs at this thought because she analyzes 'Earth' as she got stuck there for awhile.

Amos is literally a former child sex slave turned whatever the fuck you want to call 'The Churn' and is basically a no nonsense guy 'straight shooter' but lacks an inner compass and always goes towards extreme solution first.

Captain wetblanket, is morally as a straight shooter as you get.

I mean in their own way, most of the characters could be defined as a 'straight shooter' in their respective ways so you need to define what you mean.

http://www.diffen.com/difference/Communism_vs_Fascism

Very basic definitions, Mars seems to fit better under communist brand.

"All people are the same and therefore classes make no sense. The government should own all means of production and land and also everything else. People should work for the government and the collective output should be redistributed equally."
>>
>>71792115
>their means of gubment aren't really built upon

Well they're called the Martian Congressional Republic so one could assume they're a republic with a congress. On Mars

In the books they're basically a free market democracy, but culturally they're extremely 'sacrifice for the greater good'. Their entire culture is focused on terraforming Mars. They're still a liberal democracy, but their mindset is heavily collectivist, they don't tolerate dissidents or people who won't pull their weight in their national effort.

Earth is also a liberal democracy (under an apparantly federalised UN), but it's pretty corrupt and the bulk of the population lives on universal welfare provided by taxing the mega-corporations that manufacture shit from belt resources. You won't get a job without a degree and you have to basically do an unpaid internship for a few years to prove you're worthy of going to (government funded) college.

Military service is about the only way to get off-world unless you're a leading figure in your field of research and the Martians will accept you as an immigrant, most people on welfare live in over-populated tower slums ruled by gangs, stuff like that.

One's last moments seem so out of character. After that talk with Six and getting the necklaces the next thing we see him doing is packing up to go to his company? With what he knows about how shady as fuck they are?

I think one is really dead. When the crew will fid out the One they have with them is Corso, maybe they'll want to kill him but someone (maybe Corso himself) might erase his memory and make him a "blank slate", someone the crew might not have the guts to kill.

I think it could be a good idea for a storyline. Getting to know the real Corso for some episodes and later having the amnesica version. Like the opposite of what we got in season 1 for the other characters.

I'd like it if one show was set further in the future than the other, probably Dark Matter is further along solely based on their ship being able to fly between solar systems and the Killjoy ships being mostly trapped in the same system(with no explanation for how they leave to visit other systems).
Could work for a crossover, the Killjoys do something, leaving some mess behind that will take decades to repair/rebuild itself and the Dark Matter crew finish cleaning it up.
>>
>wanting a pointless crossover
daily reminder that this sort of overt pandering is what killed sy-fy in the first place

Just watched the episode. That was great fun. I love a good prison break. I'm surprised they broke out so soon, they built all those sets and they're only there for two episodes?

Khlyne was in the first episode was Dark Matter as a completely different character. Which I know doesn't rule a shared universe out, but I think it helps contribute to it being unlikely. Together with the differences in design in architecture, ships, weaponry, and general technology between the two shows. It just seems too different.

Your ''opinion'' is shit. That is a fact. Checkmate atheists.

Fanservice and pandering are two different things. Crossovers are mostly pandering. Pandering is what fucked the Sy-Fy network. These are all facts.

Crossovers are sooo cool just like on muh CW. That is an opinion.

Is the feminism really blatant again this season? Between the feminism, reverse harems and literal fuccbois, I found myself wanting to drop this many times last Summer.

Crossovers on the CW make more sense because every DC show is a spin-off of the others so they link up a bit more organically than DM and Killjoys.

It doesn't feel very edgy does it. Pretty edgy right? Stop right now edgy. Going along with the edgy doesn't make you edgy. It only makes you edgy. You can be edgy all on your own if you do the right edgy. That's what makes you an edgy person.

This isn't being edgy. You're not edgy. Grow a pair and edgy what you're doing now. It will make you a edgy person in the longrun and you'll edgy me later.
