sympathetic

He was a cunt. He had a huge ego and believed he was somehow ordained by God and couldn't handle the idea that someone was just naturally better than him.

This.

I pitied him, I hated his arrogance at times, and I appreciated his honesty at times. Above all, I could understand his frustration. Great character,
>>
A sympathetic cunt. His jealousy robbed him of the ability to appreciate or enjoy his own (albeit modest) success, but we've all been in a situation where, to some degree or another, some punk faggot just jumps in and steals the attention from us.

Both. He hated Mozart because he loved Mozarts music. This paradoxical conflict led to him becoming obsessed with Mozart, behaving irrationally (staking, spying, scheming) and eventually losing his mind. His hubris and jealousy was Mozarts demise and his own.

Although he had studied extremely hard and dedicated his life to music, he himself was not the greatest musician to ever live. He had the theory down pat but no true inspiration which seemed to come effortlessly to Mozart.

Had he been less spiteful he could have given up on his own music and become Mozart's manager, helping him to further heights of genius.

In the end, his ego and pride meant more to him than the art he supposedly dedicated his life to. If he couldn't create genius, then he would destroy someone who could.

As if the geniuses/gifted don't struggle with their work. It doesn't come easy for them either, but it comes out better.

The jealous usually don't even try much, and more importantly don't learn to find where their true potential lies. They're usually just whiners sitting on the sidelines. Their resistance against the way it is is meaningless, not some heroic struggle; whining and being butthurt about nature is pathetic. Those who actually create are the heroes.

>Oh please, those who make it against all odds are and always will be the most respectable one, not some lucky arrogant shithead like Mozart.

Have to respond to this.

No, it's the ones who actually make great art who are respecxted. Not the little mediocre steam engine who couldn't. Noone remembers them. No matter how hard they try to make it - against the odds - they still DON'T make it. Because they don't have the fucking ability. If they did they'd succeed and wouldn't be whining.

My question is, why should they care... or even keep trying if it's beyond their potential? If they don't have the ability, then it's then just about jealousy and wanting to be able to do it too, because if they could actually feel it, actually conceive it, they'd be able to produce it.

I assure you that people without the ability don't even know how to think about art in the right way, it's partly a spiritual failing, for a lack of a better phrase. The great artists don't just have the necessary technical gifts - a lot of uninspired mediocrities have even those - it's how they think and feel in a better way.
>>
>>71794187
Appeal to popularity, and easily disprovable.

Van Gogh was never appreciated during his lifetime, but is now considered one of the greatest painters of all time, if not THE greatest. Many artists are simply not appreciated during their lifetime, and modern day capitalism is no standard by which to judge whether someone is good. Literally every popstar out there is a subpar musician and lyricist, but they make money. That is more due to having the oligarchal powers backing them than by their own talent.
>>
>>71794187
*continued

...and if you think just genetic engineering is going to dispense such rare gifts more equally, you're in for a big disappointment, bitch.

>, why should they care... or even keep trying if it's beyond their potential?

Being good at art is not necessarily a gift. Mozart is an exception compared to the regular great master.

What makes great masters great is that they have a disposition towards their art. They want to do that shit all day every day, unlike most people who want peace and quiet, food and drink, and nothing more. It's 5% disposition, and 95% hard work. Why?

Mozart was 4 and picked up his instrument easily, that's certain. Most other people play their instrument for thousands of hours before achieving their master level, graduating by writing their magnum opus. Gitting gud is hard, hard work. There is no way around it, and Mozart's are 1 in a million kind of people.

This "gift" meme needs to stop.

>Astounding! It was actually, it was beyond belief. But it showed no retakes of any kind. Not one. He had simply directed a scene already finished in his head! Shot after shot of it as if he were just taking dictation. And a scene, finished as no scene is ever finished. Displace one meme and there would be diminishment. Displace one phrase and the structure would fall.
>>
>>71794345
Like you would fucking know.

I know tons of successful artists. They have the disposition, sure, but they certainly also have innate abilities most people don't have.

The whole 'there's no such thing as gifts' meme is a bullshit lie resentful academics and activists, of a certain bent, who probably grew up hating the talented kid, conceived, because, like you, they feel that the notion is politically 'unfair'. They probably spent a lot of time studying and didn't get why some people had a better grasp of certain things more easily.

But in the crowd I'm in, they're ridiculously good naturally - and then put in harder work than anyone else. They're the hardest workers I've ever known.

But all the hard work in the world couldn't make a difference for those with mediocre ability (ability, again, being more than just technical gifts, but more sensitivity/intuition/inspiration).

Which is what you've been arguing is so unfair all this time. If the Salieris could match the Mozarts with simply more effort, bitches like you wouldn't be so raging mad.

That's the tragedy of genius. Simply being one doesn't guarantee success.

Van Gogh. Mozart. Even Orson Welles, all had extremely fraught careers held back by the powers that be that couldn't understand or support what they were trying to do. It's only in retrospect that we realise how insanely talented they were.
>>
Salieri was an all-or-nothing fool.

The moment he discovered the work of Mozart he became obsessed with him. Through the course of the movie do we see him pour any time into his craft? Hardly. He gives up because there is someone better.

Could it be any clearer that for all his prostrations about how much he loved music, he was only ever did it for the fame and prestige? He can't be the very, very, best so fuck music altogether.

Salieri was no artist. The character that is, I don't know about the man himself.

And before anyone says Mozart didn't deserve it, they mention that his father trained him day and night form boyhood and spent hours each day working. Just because he didn't have a stick up his ass like Salieri means he didn't deserve his talent? Fuck off.
>>
>>71792345
>rigged
Only if you believe in God.

In which case talents are "gifts" that are given or withheld by God.

Theory: If Salieri were a non-believer, he could have accepted his mediocrity and praised Mozart as a genius instead of being convinced that God was mocking him through Mozart.

Conclusion: Religion ruins everything
>>
