Robb's campaign had reached a standstill, he couldn't move from riverrun and his plan was to send Theon to his father and request support of the Ironborne fleet to attack the Lannister's home, without the Ironborne he could not move.
Then Robb just got the news that instead of the much needed support of the Ironborn Theon had betrayed him, the Ironborn attacked moat cailin blocking their retreat and breaking their supply lines and Theon personally attacked Winterfell took it for himself and killed his two brothers. Robb was devastated, and Jeyne comforted him in the only way she could.

With 2 seasons at 7 seasons each, even if Jonsa happens I doubt we'll get the shocking sex scene that will make people question whether incest is right/wrong. They will show it like the Ramsay/Sansa marriage consummation at best.

Tywin did plan the whole thing, but not like you would suspect. Jeyne was genuinely in love with Robb as opposed to the suspicions that were had by those around Robb.
Her mother gave her a ''fertility potion'' which seemingly didn't work after many attempts at a child. This is evident by Jaime's meeting with her which occurs more than 9 months after Robb Starks death in which she looks like a normal person.
So basically Jeyne's mother was giving her Moon Tea but told her it wasn't Moon Tea and she fell for it. This is probably because Jeyne was being saved for a future marriage that would disconnect herself from the North and Riverlands and thus give less power to the Westerlings heirs.

Besides, its not like there's another castle (the Gates of the Moon) right below it. Besides, its sort of a power projection in itself that anyone who wishes to treat with the Lord of the Eyrie has to climp up the mountain, making you realize how formidable of a castle it actually is.

A lot could have happened in that tower, Targaryens have practiced polygamy before, and three kingsguard were there, Kingsguard do not normally protect known bastards and lovers of the King they defend the King and the royal family. With both Aerys and Rhaegar dead they could well have been there defending their king.
There is a possibility "Jon Snow" is a legitimate son of a married Rhaegar and Lyanna with some Targaryen name.

>Targaryens have practiced polygamy before
Literally only once when they became rulers of Westeros.
And that was only for Aegon the Conqueror.
Literally no one tried it afterward.
Not even when they had dragons.
> Kingsguard do not normally protect known bastards and lovers of the King they defend the King and the royal family
That's a shitty reasoning.
The Kingsguard is sworn to obey and follow the King and his orders. Rhaegar was most definitely not king when the 3 KGs decided to fuck off with him on his adventure.
>With both Aerys and Rhaegar dead they could well have been there defending their king.
You don't seem to understand.
Viserys was next in line of succession.
Not Jon. Who wasn't even legitimate to start with.
Rhaegar and his butt-buddies may believe whatever they want, but literally no one other than lickspittles and close friends of Rhaegar would have acknowledged whatever farce of a ceremony they had as legitimate.

Aside from that, Jon went from bastard to king in da norf. His rise to power could give way to him being recognized under either house.
I'm not saying it will happen, but stranger things have happened.
>>71742434

Therefore there is legal precedent. And this is a story where things that have no occured in thousands of years are happening and you're stuck up on something that only happened 300 years ago? I think you've really set yourself up for disappointment
>Viserys was next in line of succession.
No, Rhaegar was the heir, when he died it didn't magically pass over his heirs. Aegon, Rhaenys, and "Jon" if he is legitimate all come before Viserys.
Rhaegar's line would need to be extinguished entirely before Viserys is next in line.

Oh yes they do.
Look up Aegon the Unlikely, the little kid who squired with Duncan the Tall when he was a hedge knight.
He wanted to change a lot of shit in the Seven Kingdoms and realized he couldn't do shit without dragons to enforce his will because the LPs would have buttfucked him in an instant.
So you fanboying here and fantasizing about Targs being above literally the whole of Westeros is utter nonsense and not grounded in reality whatsoever.
For one, the Faith Militant would have risen much sooner if Rhaegar had tried to push that bullshit as legitimate.
Monogamy is something that has been part of Westeros tradition and culture for literally thousands of years, barring the Ironborn and Dornish shits with their salt-wives and paramours respectively.
>>71741845
>Petyr be attracted to Sansa because she looks like her mom.
My idea is, he uses her as leverage. He wants to be Warden of the North. Marrying Sansa will help a lot.

Literally the entire history of the Targ's reign over Westeros is them doing whatever the fuck they want. They were the ruling house.
>>71742666
>Targaryens don't play by the rules.
No. An allowance.
Aegon the Conqueror had his own son exiled once Maegor tried to have one more than one wife. So he clearly knew such a thing could never, ever happen after him.
>No, Rhaegar was the heir, when he died it didn't magically pass over his heirs. Aegon, Rhaenys, and "Jon" if he is legitimate all come before Viserys.
Rhaenys and Aegon were dead.
Jon is a bastard and thus not in line of succession.
>>71742706
>Oh yes they do.
Not that anon, but not really.
They continue fucking and marrying their sisters even when it's against the dominant faith in Westeros.
And even nobles don't always follow the rules.

>>71742666
you're grasping at straws. your reasoning is so bad you should probably become a writer on the show
>>71742434
The reason the kingsguard were at the tower was because Raeghar thought he was going to win. He was going to win, end the rebellion, come back to pick Visenya and have Aerys legitimize her. So for all intends and purposes Artuh, Oswell and Gerold were protecting a royal baby.

>a) polygamy had been outlawed in Westeros
While this is true for the average lords this was never made official for Targaryens after they converted to the seven there have been no other documented cases this is true but the matter was left undecided. If you read the worlds of ice and fire you'd know this.
>b) he kidnapped a woman betrothed to another man
She was betrothed but she wasn't wed and that marriage was unconsummated therefore it's not legally binding in any way. Betrothals and broken all the time.

Unless he is legitimate which he very well could have been.
Aeyns exiled his brother for disobeying him and Aeyns is dead, Jaehaerys never codified this as law either way.
This is a very flimsy argument you're making.
>>71742706
>cherrypicking
Yes we know some Targs were noble and just.
You could cite a ton of examples of just Aerys II doing as he wants.
What about Aegon's grandbastards? They literally made a noble house out of illegitimate children. Do you really think Westeros would have rebelled against the crown just for the reason of Jon being legitimized into a Targ?
>>71742799
Rhaegar sure as fuck didn't have the blessing of the Starks
>muh Targs did whatever they wanted
except by the time Jon was born the Targs had been ousted. if Rhaegar had actually tried to marry Lyanna and wanted to legitimize Jon it sure as fuck wouldn't have been recognized by anyone.
>>71742769
>you're grasping at straws
Stop projecting.
>your reasoning is so bad
Where is your logic behind this, give your reasoning.
Just because you're losing the argument doesn't mean you have to give up and declare victory to save face. Think and use your words, give examples.
I don't think the commoners of Westeros even give a shit whether the King is legitimate now if he's a good guy
>>71742967
Nobody cares about the commoners
>>71742765
>They continue fucking and marrying their sisters even when it's against the dominant faith in Westeros.
And that's about the only allowance they had once their dragons were had.
Even so, it was fucking stupid.
Rather than binding the realms to the royal family, they just made inbred incest babies with each other.
>Maegor was king BY RIGHTS, by all the laws of gods and men, and those fucking nobles skipped him anyway.
Which one was that? Are we talking about the Cruel or that one kid that was barely mentioned and then gone from the pages of history?
>>71742782
Doesn't matter what might have been in the future.
Rhaegar was no king and they sure as fuck didn't get orders from Aerys to go and help him partake in the elopement with Lyanna Stark and then stay at the Tower of Joy while the rest of the realm waged war.
>>71742783
Even if that was true, which it wasn't, that's not an argument of any sort.

>>71742888
No one would acknowledge it as legitimate.
That's it.
That's all there is.
>>71742919
You could still do that in regular times.
If a bastard showed himself of great worth, you could let him take on a new name. That's something far more infinitely easier than legitimizing a bastard with his father's family name in a post-Daemon Blackfyre Westeros.
>>71742503
which Blackfyre is this?

>Even if that was true, which it wasn't, that's not an argument of any sort.
>Facts are facts, regardless of the source
You must be really fucking retarded or autistic. I was talking about how the faith Militant DID NOT EXIST to do shit against Rhaegar. Again I'll call you a wikifag and hope no one responds to your shit.
>>71742987
>No one would acknowledge it as legitimate.

>Daemon and Maelys Blackfyre
that's some Lucas tier pottery in naming characters
Why did Jon even want to join the Night's Watch so much? life as a bastard wasn't bad at all. Was it just his emo phase?
>>71742987
>Rhaegar was no king and they sure as fuck didn't get orders from Aerys to go and help him partake in the elopement with Lyanna Stark and then stay at the Tower of Joy while the rest of the realm waged war.
How do you even know? The only one we know for sure stayed with Aerys through the war was Jaime. For all we know some nice day Raeghar went to the king and "Sup dad I be needing three kingsguard to protect on a side project on the north and in dorne." "Sure son take Arthur, Oswell and Gerold it's been pretty slowly around here anyway."
>>71743012
>except Rhaegar kidnapping and marrying Lyanna was against the law of the land
>and marrying Lyanna
Anon why are you trying to support my argument? I'm just saying it was possible not that it happened.
You're not very good at this.
>>71743081
The dragons are a literary device, I see it now.
Shame the show didn't get the memo.
>>71743100
Glory and honor and all that, and he didn't really know what else to do.
>>71742987
>If a bastard showed himself of great worth, you could let him take on a new name. That's something far more infinitely easier than legitimizing a bastard with his father's family name in a post-Daemon Blackfyre Westeros.
Ramsay Bolton. Literally no one made a peep about it.
>>71743055
Why are you so butthurt about facts, anon?
Faith Militant didn't exist, yes, we all know that.
But the fact is that the religious followers of the faith of the Seven would have rioted against it.
It would help speed up the creation/rebirth of the FM ahead of its canon-timeline.
>>71743061
You seem to be an absolutely insane Targaryen fanboy.
Which is fitting, I suppose.
Now, go pork your sister.
>>71743100
He was told a lot of shit, and was never really given the whole extent of what the members of the NW were like. Basically, he romanticized it all.
And he left Winterfell because Catelyn would have made his life hell once Ned was gone to KL.
>>71743102
>How do you even know?
Because Aerys distrusted Rhaegar, accused him of plotting against him and so on.
Aerys wouldn't loan him shit, let alone the very best of them.
>>71743012

Tommen signed that decree and Roose had no wife or other children to serve as heir and had done Lannisters a huge favor.
Also, the rest of the realm gave no shite about the North.
>>71743100
AGoT Jon was angsty, jealous and arrogant.
He wanted to escape his bastard status and thought he would be the shit in the Night's Watch
>>71743100
well he never stood to inherit any land or title, so his only way to glory was to do something like that
>>71743160
Seek professional medical help, you're in dire need of it.
No, really. Your only 'defense', and I use the term loosely here, is deluding yourself into twisting the world into something it's not, so that you don't have to present an actually valid argument with which to debate.
>>71743174
It doesn't matter who signed it. You cited post-Daemon Blackfyre Westeros as the reason bastards couldn't take on their father's name without people making a fuss. Roose wasn't barren and was in a perfectly good position to have more children. The crown had already given him Winterfell and the warden title.

>>71742987
>Rather than binding the realms to the royal family, they just made inbred incest babies with each other.
Yes, but they kept on doing it even thought it was wrong and technically against the law and the Faith.
>Which one was that? Are we talking about the Cruel or that one kid that was barely mentioned and then gone from the pages of history?
The one kid, Aerion's son.
Skipped over in succession when it was clear that he was the legitimate heir since he was a son of a second son while Maekar's firstborn son only left a daughter behind. And he got skipped.
Even though there were clear precedents for sons of second sons ascending when the firstborn left no males when they died.
skipped cause they didn't like his father, which is bullshit and not a basis in the law
>>71743196
This. Plus he couldn't go with Ned, and Catelyn was going to be a cunt, so Ned just let him go.
Benjen kept telling him wait until you know what you're losing before you join, but Jon was too busy trying to prove himself
>>71743100
Jon shared a similarity with Sansa- he believed in the singers and the stories that he grew up listening to. Of course his taste was different. He went there knowing that they are cool knights in black defending the realm and believed it seeing noble men such as Benjen, Royce join them. It was a shock for him when he found out how different it was in reality, and if he went back to Winterfell Cat would likely throw a fit, not to mention he'd be made fun of like Theon in the Iron Islands.
>>71743176
Also this
>>71743224
Yes, I cited that because you couldn't give a bastard son his father's family name without the king's say-so.
>Roose wasn't barren
He was fairly old if I recall. 40 year or such.
Sure, he could have sired a son, but Ramsay would have killed the boy, one way or another.
>>71743243

Potentially, again who is to say if they would have accepted it or not. Rhaegar was well loved by the people.
You seem like the type that takes his headcanon very seriously.
>You seem to be an absolutely insane Targaryen fanboy.

Also Roose stated he'd rather have a crazed bastard than a child ruler.
And keep in mind, he had a perfect heir once who was killed by Ramsey, so Roose hates the shit, but it's too late to do anything.
>>71743286
>Rhaegar was well loved by the people.
Up to a point.
Eloping with another man's betrothed, regardless whether it was consensual on her part or not, and then actually thinking he could have her as one extra wife, was pure fucking madness.
>You seem like the type that takes his headcanon very seriously.
Nope. I'm very open to being corrected on any mistakes I make or assumptions I wrongly made. I just think it's stupid how people think Rhaegar would have been allowed to do as he liked without any consequences.
>That's not an argument anon.
Says the guy who's only line of reasoning is: "They're Targaryens, they could do as they like!"
>>71743345

He was made the Lord Commander's steward after completing his training, a highly prestigious position. So he took it. Its much higher than anything he could achieve south except for being a Kingsguard.
>>71743349

He said that to Reek though, fully aware that Ramsay would hear every word of it.
Roose wanting to off Ramsay is pretty certain by the end of DwD
>>71743287
He was fed grade A bullshit about it his entire life. It was made out to be this honorable, defender of the realm position that everyone thanks you for. This is partially Benjen's fault, who could have told him how shit the training and life in general there was.
Men signed up to be crusaders en masse back in the day, and the job description wasn't that much different from the NW either.
>>71743349
Roose Bolton is a shit of a man, but what a great character to read about.
>Tell me, my lord ... if the kinslayer is accursed, what is a father to do when one son slays another?

No. Robb and Sansa would have been perfect in their roles, with Robb being LPark and probably married by that time, and Sansa being a wife who gets railed every night.

He did in the books at least. There's a time period after training completion where volunteers are given the final choice to quit after being drafted to either the builders, stewars or rangers. Jon was almost turned off by knowing he was in the stewards- it took Sam explaining he was in the LC's steward- who are generally chosen because they have a ton of potential that he finally decided to take his bows.
>>71743143
>Aerys wouldn't loan him shit, let alone the very best of them.
Yet the fact remain that they were not at King's Landing and at the Tower of Joy. Let's take a closer look at the fate of the kingsguard:
Ser Gerold Hightower: died at the toj
Ser Lewyn Martell: died at the Trident
Ser Barristan Selmy: died at the trident
Ser Oswell Whent: died at the toj
Ser Arthur Dayne: died at the toj
Ser Jonothor Darry: died at the trident
Ser Jaime Lannister: stayed in KL
Oh when we look at it half of the kingsguard went to fight at the trident, and we know Jaime was also supposed to go but Raeghar gave him express orders to stay. So it's possible they were all supposed to go and help Raeghar at the trident, but the prince sent three of them to protect Lyanna while he was away instead of taking them with him to battle.

>>71743295
>Except he can't be because Rhaegar was still married to Elia.
Thus why we're discussing the possibility of Targaryen polygamy, Aegon wed both his sisters and had legal heir by them.
Polygamy had not been practiced since but it was no official law passed or decree made that prevented Targaryens from practicing it. Kinda like the two term limit before the 22nd, FDR was elected to four terms even though the two term limit had been a unwritten rule people had stuck to for more than a hundred year.
Maegor attempted it against the wishes of his brother and was exiled for his disobedience. Aeyns was then killed an Maegor took over and again never made a law legalizing it. The practice itself was not banned or legalized by Aenys or Jaehaerys after him. Polygamy currently as far as we know is a legal grey area for Targaryens it was practiced in the passed and has not been practiced for 300 years since then, however that doesn't mean it is illegal just like how the others not showing up in a thousand year doesn't mean they're gone.

Rhaegar was well liked and was still well liked by many who were alive to know him.
Robert's victory didn't change this and many character remember him fondly. We cannot say with certainty just how the realm would have reacted to Rhaegar's second marriage.
Would the faith have risen up in revolt against him? Maybe, but they're cool with dragon incest.
Would the people have hated him? Maybe, but many fought for the Dragon and 'the people up crackclaw way are all still good Dragon men'. It's hard to predict let alone say with certainty how people would react.

>I'm talking about how it actually went down. half the realm rose up in rebellion and killed the royal family, so no, it wouldn't have been recognized.
Well no, you were talking about what would've and could've happened if a marriage between them was made public. No such event ever occurred.
But to your point they didn't rise in revolt because he stole her, Robert and Rickard were upset but the Starks and the Baratheons didn't rise in revolt because of it. Rickard traveled south to take the case to the King, he didn't bring an army he was going to bring the case to the king and have it settled peacefully.
The revolt stated when Aerys murdered the lord Rickard Stark and his son Brandon Stark and ordered Jon Arryn to murder Robert and Ned who were his wards.
It was Jon Arryn who started the rebellion for this outrage, not because Rhaegar wanted to get his dick wet in wolf pussy. The only person who were upset by her abduction were her father who just lost an alliance and Robert Baratheon the man she was betrothed to.
>>71743914

>>71744258
>Rhaegar kidnaps Lyanna

>Aerys goes full retard
>rebellion happens
no, it looks like Lyanna's kidnapping was very much the starting event
>>71744372
It was a precipitating event, not the start.
The start of the rebellion was the murder of Rickard and Brandon and the King's demand that Jon Arryn murder Ned and Robert.
The rebellion was against Aerys' Madness not Rhaegar's abduction of Lyanna, if it had been Rhaegar's abduction of Lyanna Rickard would have brought an army with him south to demand by force that Rhaegar return his daughter.
>>71744536
Didn't they demand that Rheagar be beheaded though?
