But, American movies are all filmed in Canada and UK (Pinewood Studios), but in fabricated sets w/ CGI backgrounds to make it look like it's taking place in America.

Canada - Cheap with tax breaks.
UK - All the sci-fi villains live there.
The fact is when one is writing a script the characters are usually written from the writers frame of reference. Easier to set something in America, which the writer would know, than somewhere they have little or no understanding of.
A more interesting question I think is: How come Americans can make movies that appeal to such a broad worldwide audience?
Conditioning through previous exposure (tv etc)?
Packaging?
Showmanship?
A better understanding of the human condition perhaps?
