So everyone watched the same shit. Same sitcoms, same news, same cartoons, same national sports. When we went to school, we talked about Simpsons and Friends because that's all there was. Nobody talked about Ren and Stimpy were because most people didn't have the channels.
You didn't watch things because you liked it. You watched things because if you didn't you were completely out of the loop.
You could say American society might just be more fractured now because TV was the last thing that most people could hold in common.
