Specifically a character called Steppenwolf on of Darkseid's generals. the cubes are called Motherboxes and apparently are gonig to be something like Dragonballs now, they are usually alien supercomputers that allow near instantaneous teleportation, we also saw one in the scene where Cyborg is created.
