This isnt' about making good movies, it's about making money. Studios see films as "ecosystems of brand initiatives". It's all about multi-media, and merchandise. Ghost Busters has been sitting on the back burner for 20 years, so they want to revive it. It has strong toy possibilities.

I don't buy that at all. Budgets have certainly gone up. Look at the original films and the remakes. When taking inflation into account, most of the remakes cost 50% to 200% of the originals. The Thing is the only film that was consistant.
I blame the over reliance on CGI. They want everything shot as fast as possible with as little problems. So they shoot on green stages, and use CGI for every effects shot. Cut a check to the computer nerds and they do the rest.
Hollywood has a real push for fast shooting I hear. Jackie Chan has complained about it.

Regardless of the score Feig will be in career trouble after this. This film may recoup its budget but there's no way it'll make enough to justify a sequel like planned. What absolutely baffles me about this, is that you would think movie studios would have figured out by now, that killing a franchise with a bad movie like that, will make them lose money in the long term. There are a shit ton of movies that only had a market because their predecessor was a very good original movie. Say what you want about capeshit, I personally hate those movies, but they know their audience. A good Ghostbusters movie would've opened the door for a lot of follow ups, this might even make their money back, but people are never ever gonna watch the next one.

I had one of those moments where the idea springs full blown into my mind. Perhaps it is shit, perhaps it will provide enjoyment.
It should not have been a remake, but a third movie.
Weaver will play the central role, the grizzled vet. In the first two, she was the victim. After the second, she took an active role, helping the team, going out on runs, while Oscar was in school, all to provide a safe future for him. He is still a magnet for supernatural events, due to the occurrences of the first and second movie, he was conceived while both of his parents were possessed, and later was a temporary vessel for Vigo, kinda makes him susceptible to supernatural shit. The Original Ghostbusters stop a lot of crazy stuff, become somewhat multinational, help Japan,(insert The Ring joke here,told in comical five second flashback of Murray crushing the VHS tape or some shit), and generally are popular. They have a crew of likeminded individuals they have taught, say five or six, all guys. 20 years have passed. They get a call from a foreign country, shitbucketstan or some other. Not a lot of detail, the OG's decide to go, as they are best suited for anything that may pop up. It turns out to be an ancient force that can totally dominate the wills of men and control them. Cue frantic last second call by CG Ramis back to HQ as they are succumbing to relate the nature of the creature to Weaver, followed by a nuclear explosion as one or all of the proton packs of OG's go supercritical. Weaver, who has been married to Murray for years, knows what the explosion means. Cue hysterical freak out and recovery, and eventual decision to create new team of women. //////This is the part I suck at, writing the part that makes you like the new team. She also needs to have a bit of backstory, e.g., she had a girlfriend( friend or girlfriend, leave it open to interpretation) that had lived in an apartment that had a poltergeist, weird stuff had happened a few times when Winstead had been there, eventually said girlfriend had contacted the OG's and had the poltergeist removed. Weaver puts out an ad asking for female applicants, Winstead responds to the ad with this as motivation as the poltergeist stuff freaked her out when she was younger. As she is currently a jobless sarcastic hipster living with her parents, she sees it as a chance to escape parents basement or such.

Insert introduction scene with Winstead being interviewed and Weaver seeing a hotdog vendor stopping in front of the fire station to sell picture takers some hot dogs. Slimer is trapped like a dog behind an invisible field created by Egon to keep ghosts from getting in or out of the fire station area. Kind of a back up in case some Walter Peck motherfucker decides to pull the switch on their containment grid again.

Cut to last third of movie. The supercritical proton pack explosion did not end the menace. Instead, the last second warning call by Egon to Weaver merely established a link to Oscar, and the ghost/demon traveled to New York via satphone wave(make up whatever tech shit you want) and it has been resting. Some risque jokes about a feminine demon recuperating inside of a disgusting male because it was too weak and made the jump to an already compromised male body as it had been tainted by similar energies before.It has been slowly subverting males to their cause, to eventually gather into a large group where it plans to drain their lifeforce to power a massive portal, allowing spirits from all time to cross back over and roam free of their otherworldly afterlife. Much to the horror of Weaver and crew, the spirit does exactly that. All over the city, thousands of men start dropping into comas, and the portal opens as they slowly begin dying. Ghosts and creatures come screaming through the hundred foot high portal, ignoring the Fembusters, and scattering. While Weaver and crew stare helplessly, a familiar figure steps through the portal and approaches Weaver. It's Bill fucking Murray. Weaver's eyes become teary, and Bill says, "What are you doing? We've been busting our asses over there to stop this." Weaver responds, "What?" And Bill says, Well, when we got to the other side, the big guy offered us a job doing what we do best. And it is a full time job. We've been working non stop. Weaver says,"Big Guy?" And Bill says, "The One and Only. What, did you think that ghosts were only a problem on this side?" She starts crying now, and Bill reassures that she has this, and can win. She asks how, and Bill grins, "The same way we tried. Cross the streams. Only, don't miss."
everyone in work is really hyped for it. We had it previewed on the TV's in the cafeteria at lunch. Looks great. Many women clapped and cheered when they saw the trailer on the screen.
