What was the beginning of the modern day meme movie? Inception is certainly an example of one, but I don't know that it was the first. That film that comes out and gets hyped as a hugely important cinematic event, ends up being placed on all sorts of GOAT movies of all time lists but then a few months later everyone has already forgotten about it and moved onto the next disposable meme flick.
TDK seems like an obvious answer at first but I think it did have some legitimate pop culture impact. Shit like Fury Road, Gravity, Boyhood, Whiplash etc really do just feel like smash and grabs.

How does this film compare to Paprika? I've not seen either, but I'm watching Paprika tonight. If it's interesting I may pick up Inception, even though Nolan is a meme director.
