This board has become too plebeian for me. What is a good place to discuss cinema with more aware people? Don't recommend me reddit, apparently it is more plebeian than this place.

Either the community is full of capeshit and garbage, or full fucking pretentious.

Letterboxd (add reviewers you are interested and check what they're watching), RYM has autistic charts, and if you are part of private tracker new torrents list is pretty nice (Works in RARGBG too)

I disagree. I've only posted in one thread (and it was an alright thread) but I've lurked in dozens over the course of around three weeks before giving up on that site.

For all the cancer on /tv/, it's still the best place for discussion, as well.

4chan isn't anonymous. Don't even pretend that just because there isn't user names (by default) that it is anonymous. In a actual conversation you can track and identify posters based on their shibboleths, how they use certain words, or just by reply chain.
>>
>>71662544

>>
>>71662585
You practically log-in to 4chan every time you write CAPTCHA and all the information goes through Google.-
>>
>>71662580
Still you don't need a login.

And someone would have to really care about it to be tracing you.

Quite not your problem if someone takes the time to obsess over stalking a random person they have no actual connection with, hm?
>>
>>71662662
No, I don't.

>>
>>71662762
>I don't type my email, username, dah-dah-dah
Google attaches it all to your ID in their servers and can track you, your posts.

It is exactly the same as login in principle and reality, no matter if the technicality doesn't match up a classic login

You could buy 4chan pass, but then 4chan tracks you and not Google.

Its almost like television and film are the medium for the pleb masses and designed for the lowest common denominator and no gatekeeper to only let in "patrician approved" content.

So your options are to separate the wheat from the chaff (there is still actual discussion on /tv/) or fuck off to a moderated forum.

I grew out of watching "art" films during my mid 20s.
What a bore and waste of time all of them were.

>You didn't understand them.
I understood well enough. But now I understand even better, this was not some kind of a spiritual quest and at the end the enlightenment, this was me wasting my life.
Spending hours alone in my room, watching every bullshit puked by Tarkovsky, Fellini, Bergman, Dreyer, Kobayashi and every other talentless hack's piece of shit movie, I could get my hands on.
God, I'll never take those hours back.

So now I watch Civil War and TMNT instead but I watch them with my friends and family and I'm much more happier for it.

>You've gone full pleb

>>71672362
This is something I see a lot of on the internet. I come from an intellectual family, both my parents are authors and artists for better or worse, and no one has ever talked about Fellini as some deep director, simply comfy and entertaining. The same way they rarely discuss what an abstract painting "means", its more what themes it has, what kind of feel it gives of, and whether its nice and/or interesting to look at or not.

This mentality where you lock yourself in a room for a year with a bag of the "deepest" authors according to google is so misguided and seems to be widespread among people who think intellectualism is something you train like muscles. The spiritual quest is lifelong, its not something you burst through watching a bunch of movies you hate. Youre making it much more difficult than it is.
>>
>>71672362
you realize you can watch whatever films you want and also have time to spend with family and friends while also having a good job. I do it, and I don't understand why you think you've had some revelation about the world/people in general.
>>
>>71672362
Seems like you were watching those films without really actually liking them. There's always "deeper" aspects to every hobby or activity in life, whether it's books, television, film, cooking, music, gaming, driving, exercising, whatever. The average person will probably only go deep on 1-2 things.

If art house film isn't for you that's perfectly fine, it was never supposed to make you some intellectual or spiritually fulfilled, it just means you fell for the faux-intellectual meme that watching arthouse or listening to classic music will leave you fulfilled.
>>
>>71671614

Back then, I didn't even have internet.
There was internet, I'm not that old but it wasn't so commonly used as it is now. And pne could certainly not find and watch movies through the internet yet.
I was renting videocassettes from clubs and DVD's later.

But you're right, I was merely pretending to have attended some sort of intellectuality because I've seen Goddard or Pasolini films? I was dishonest with myself and I see that clearly now, so I'm glad that phase is over with.
Well, ok, it might have been too much to claim that their movies are a piece of shit, some of them I still remember, so if they stuck to memory, there must have been something good about them. But for the most part, I have forgotten most of them.

if you ever paid attention in Godard film you probably did something more with your brains than you do if you watch a basic film

There's nothing Godard or any other of them can teach you, that living your life can't teach you better.
That's what I understood in the end.

you do have to actually go live your life though, sitting in one's room all day it doesn't really matter whether you spend it watching TV, playing games or whatever

>What a bore and waste of time all of them were
>>"You didn't understand them". I understood well enough
>I just threw some classic names because the others aren't even worth mentioning at all
>Goddard
The fucking ever more pathetic excuses plebs use on this board. This one never was anything but a hopeless plebeian and now goes trying to talk shit.
Life is easier the simpler the mind is, so enjoy, peabrain
