ST is great on pain killers. I would watch it after my surgery all the time doped up to the gills and it was ultra comfy
I could never get into it. It's not much better looking than TOS and it lacks all of the camp.

The first two seasons were awful on account of basically just being recycled TOS ideas. It wasn't until season 3 that it started standing on its own two feet, which is also when the costume design got massively better.
The rule of thumb is to check if Riker has his beard yet.
