The OP was right saying thatThe Clone Wars is very much the hight of the Star Wars saga. Specifically in the later seasons.
There are multiple on-screen deaths of major characters and clone troopers are often decapitated and murdered in cold blood, despite the show supposedly being "for children". It actually feels less like a kids show, and more like a show for the average Star Wars fan, but aired on a childrens network.
Its worth a watch if you can push through the first 2 seasons of meh. Everything after that is absolute gold and only gets better and better the farther into the series you get.
Star Wars Rebels on the other hand very much feels like it was made for children with a few specific episode exceptions. Despite there being plenty of violence, the dialog and situations feel very child oriented. Especially in season 1. The final episode of Season 2 however finally reached the adult levels that The Clone Wars did, so maybe it will follow The Clone Wars' example and get even better and better as it goes on. Season 3 is premiering sometime this summer so I guess we will find out.

Clone Wars was the sweet spot between genuine swashbuckling, dog-fighting adventure fun of the original trilogy and the expansive worldbuilding and political intrigue of the prequels.
They'll never get it right again. But at least it happened once.

i put off watching it for a while because the animation was a lot shittier and it looked like it was for little kids.
it was pretty child oriented but it does a pretty good job of being charming and capturing the spirit of the OT, even though there's a lot of downright awful content
first and last episodes of S2 were pretty great, hopefully season 3 continues to get more serious like TCW did
