I have something to confess.
I am in love with Alfie Allen.
It began when I first started watching Game of Thrones back in 2011 when it originally aired. I enjoy the programme a lot, it seemed to capture the essence of the books and most of the characters were well casted. We won't get into what it has turned into, I liked it at the time. I noticed Theon didn't look like he did in the Books, I thought he looked quite odd. As the season went on I realised how good an actor this young man is.
Something changed, I saw him stand beside Robb Stark and then witnessed the pure emotion he displayed as Ramsay's captive. Seeing his little face as Reek warmed my heart and filled me with a burning desire to rescue him. I no longer see the odd face, weak beard and greasy hair. I see a true beauty, a beauty that emenates from his most deepest being.
He is the reason I continue watching this show. I am filled with pure glee every second he is on screen, and I never want the scene to end. I feel both joy and sorrow: joy because he exists in all his deep brilliance, and sorrow, because I realise that this straight London boy, the son of the abrasive Keith Allen, will never be mine.
It feels good to finally express it. I thank you for sharing this moment with me.

The issue isn't whether or not she's beholden unto them, it's what the perception of the Lords of the North is after she publicly betrayed Ned and married into two enemy houses. At bare minimum that will make people suspicious when none of them know she was forced into these marriages. She was also willingly engaged to Joffrey before, and Joffrey is the very person who ordered Ned's execution. Sansa can't possibly have a positive reputation in The North.

We repeatedly are given examples of people not really caring about Night's Watch oaths. Robb and Stannis both wanted to pardon Jon from his oath, but the oath wasn't "My watch shall end when I die or a King gives me a get out of Watch free card". Ned was not the norm. NW deserters at this point are probably mostly executed because most of them are criminals and the Northmen don't want criminals running around. Jon went to The Wall not as a criminal, but as a volunteer. Him being Ned's son would only grant him more leniency.

If I had to guess man, it's literally part of their "outline" from GRRM they need to stick to. Robb literally named Jon as his heir in the book before the Red Wedding, so that probably comes back to the forefront in the Winds of Winter version. And like a lot of their choices, they make changes and then proceed to connect the dots in a clumsy fashion to get to the same point as GRRM in ways that are illogical for the world without considering the "butterfly effect".
With how feminist this season has been and how much of the Winterfell storyline has been about Sansa rather than resurrected Jon, I'm sure David and Dan would have jumped at the chance to make Sansa as Queen of the North. But when it comes to their preference versus what George has mandated for them, they are likely to go for the latter.
So when trying to jutify it I'm pretty sure they said "fuck it" in the end because D&D are big Renly fags, they don't believe in the laws of succession mattering as much as who men choose to follow and that was their justification to align those dots and get to the same place as GRRM in the show. Plus, it compliments the focus on Lyanna and kind of still fits with the feminist message with Stark leadership continuing through the female line.
That's the only reason I can give you, that thematically it is what it is as the show is the browdstrokes of the story now. The writers have become very shallow at this point, just look what they did with Dorne. And the North are more inspired by a leader with a legendary resume like Jon has at this point than Ned Stark's daughter, so it's an emotional decision without regards to Northern history.

It wasn't even a filer, the only reasons it was even a thing were getting Jaime out of KL, getting Brien away from the north and reminding normies about Walder Frey.
