Did they at least finish it properly?
>>

They rushed it because CBS gave them 13 episodes to work with instead of the usual 22. I feel like they could bring it back on a different network considering the deaths of a few characters weren't really shown on screen, but I doubt that they will.

I'm really torn on the finale.

Why? They show should've ended instead of going on forever and turning into crap.
And, to be perfectly honest, it was starting to worsen since the start of season 4.

Besides, how could they top Samaritan after going on for ~3 seasons. It was time to end it anyway.

The writers said they had a lot of ideas that they still wanted to run with but CBS was cancelling it so they had to rush a series finale and kill the show. It was not what the show deserved.
>>
>>71564498

You can tell they didnt have much time to make season 5 the final one. It felt so rushed.

The way the characters handle weapons in this show is cringe-worthy. Reese and Shaw are supposed to be these badass operators and they have zero trigger discipline or know how to shoot a weapon.

I think the show had a good run but they really did all the plots they could have done imo. It's one of the few shows that got better with later seasons. It was pretty standard monster-of-the-week stuff at the beginning had some good plots later on. I also like that the writers didn't mind killing off characters regularly,
>>
Fuck them for making it all about Root in the end. It's suppose to be about Reese and Finch not their damn waifu.
>>
>>71568773
I guess it's just that end of series feeling that you get when you don't want to say goodbye. Out of all the shows I've watched, including Breaking Bad, I'd say this one has been the worst. It was just so good.
>>
>>71568848
Yeah but personally I really liked Root's character development. I felt like a part of me knew that she would die eventually but damn, she really was my favorite.
>>
>>71568773
>It was pretty standard monster-of-the-week stuff at the beginning

It was, but it was somehow better back then. They still dealt with sci-fi aspects, but through a more grounded feel that was very engaging.
Plus the flashbacks were on fucking point. Felt real.

After that it just became flashy visuals, quips and lesbian waifu teasing.
>>
>>71568773
It was monster of the week at the end too, it's just that instead of interesting independent monsters it was "bullshit backed by Samaritan".
>>
>>71568901
This. I enjoyed her character's story as it progressed.

Fuck I just saw her first episode again the other day, man, to think I thought she was just going to do her usual guest star role.

I love Amy.
>>
The finale was OK. They managed to have a hundred episodes without the show becoming shit. Would watch again in a few years.
>>
Great series. The way it started out as a standard CBS procedural and then turned into something much much more complex.

Every season was better than the one before, until the last that is. The reduced number of episodes definitely hurt as it felt so rushed at times. I'm not saying there weren't some good moments and a few good episodes but it wasn't upto the shows usual standards.

Was I the only one who also felt that the actor playing Reese was just going through the motions towards the end? "Oh I'll just stand her emotionless and fire a gun for the countless time"

Root and Shaw were fantastic this season though.
>>
>>71569029
I know, I thought that she wasn't going to be significant. Why did she have to die of all characters? Even if they decide to do a spinoff, I'm fine with no Reese but Root was just so great.

I doubt they would go as far as faking her death for some reason like to send Harold over the edge, but as shitty as that is, I'd accept it just to have her back in a spinoff.
>>
>>71569510
if they did a spin off, i'm not sure if i'd be okay with just Root Machine. Sure they could do the physical representation thing with the actors not seeing/interacting with her, but it wouldn;t be the same to me.
>>
>>71569152
Reese had some good moments but honestly, it's just the way his character is. Hell even Jim in interviews seem the same way.

I did love that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reference though from the penultimate ep.
>>
>>71569629
No, I meant like actual root. I doubt they could convincingly fake her death considering the circumstances but anything is possible. They're doing it in Prison Break.

I probably wouldn't watch a spin-off if there was no root.
>>
>>71568308
I know, I feel the same way. I miss these characters so much already ;_;
>>
>>71569718
oh i get you, also i totally thought she was faking her death too considering we never got any pay off or reference to that plan she had a few episodes back with that dvina missile base.

but man, just reminded me as well, i'm pretty pissed that they had Samaritan agents dig up her corpse.
>>
>>71569761
Like it's crazy. I thought this would just be a villain of the week show so I kind of rushed through the first season. Now after it all, I realize I've liked it more than shows like breaking bad and prison break which were hard to say goodbye to. It just doesn't feel like it should be over.

>>71569809
I feel that it's still possible to get past it all. She faked her death to push Harold over the edge, and they never did get to her corpse. Maybe she tipped them off of their location instead of them getting the cochlear implant? Not sure how they would deal with Fusco seeing a body though.

Would be a challenge, but I would buy it just to have that cast again.
>>
>>71568600
You wrong, Root know where the samaritans agents are without seen
The machine talk to her
>>
>>71569809
Pretty sure the missile thing is just something the show planned on doing, but ran out of time to make it happen, and never got around to cutting that scene or something.
>>
>>71569908
Person of Interest is my favorite show, easily. It might be the only show I've ever seen where I loved all of the characters. There wasn't a single "Scrappy-Doo" type character in this, they were all lovable as fuck.

Also this show had excellent eye candy
>>
>>71569908
as silly as it sounds, i would just gladly accept any explanation they'd have to bring her back to life.

also, it wasn't evne Root's death that pushed Harold in the interrogation room, he ha dno idea what her fate was but he for sure knew he lost Elias.

But yeah, fuck, I miss all these characters so much now.

>>71569951
bah yeah i have a bad feeling that was the case too...it just seemed so interesting especially since there was a "phase two" for her plan.

>>71570096
I liked Elias too as a character. Literally as soon as he died I thought "19 minutes in and this happens? This is going to be a big episode" I didn't think it would be as sad as Root dying. Also, when Harold picked up the phone and heard Root my heart skipped a beat. As soon as the machine said "No" I almost closed the episode out.

Yeah. I don't think a spin-off with Shaw, Bear, and Fusco would be all that interesting. Fusco and Root were good together because Fusco would just make fun of her. Shaw and Root, well that's kind of obvious. With Harold in Italy and John (presumably) dead, it would feel like there's a large void.

I think they'd have to bring some of the characters back for it to work, which is definitely possible.

she is legit one of my most favorite genre actors. she wow'd me on Angel when she switched from Fred to Ilyrria, I honestly wasn;t sure she'd be able to pull that off.

And then thinking her as a badass was just going to be a one-time thing, she was excellent on the final season of Alias (basically she was my only saving grace on that shit show at the end) and now her role as Root.
>>
>>71570985
I love this show more than Ive ever loved any other show, but I don't want a spin-off. For me it ended perfectly, and as much as I love Shaw and Fusco, I'd rather go on imagining what adventures they got up to myself, instead of seeing it in a poorly thought out spin off that would tarnish the shows legacy.

It had 5 amazing seasons, let it rest. And in 10 years it'll probably become a huge cult hit.

That's not really true for Root in the last couple seasons though, she was pretty well reformed by then, she regretted what an evil shit she used to be.

Chaotic Evil if anything, since she wants The Machine to be free and fights against Samaritan controlling people

did she though? she was ready to whack that innocent woman to protect Harold and was a glib narcissist until her last day
>>
>>71573351
There's an early episode with a flashback where Kara threatens to put a guy on a CIA plane and crash it
>>
>>71573632
She definitely did, just because she was willing to sacrifice somebody else to save Harold doesn't make her evil, especially given the stakes at that point, she or the Machine couldn't afford to lose him.

Plus, there was that whole episode where the Machine made her protect some dude who's life she ruined in the past. If any episode proved she changed, it was that one.

I absolutely loved this series but it was at its peak when they were fighting both Samaritan and that people's terrorist group at the same time.

Elias was one of my favorite characters. But Reese was pretty awesome as well. One of the few times that the actual main character is tied for my favorite.

but that's the point, it was Harold and the Machine that really affected her character. Yes she;s still willing to do extreme things, but now she's learned to care about thsoe close to her. It made her appreciate what she has and what she has to fight for.

With Samaritan, it only reinforced her skills as a cold blooded hitwoman.

The writing on the show is pretty stellar and they did a great job on making very memorable characters that you care about.

Literally Fringe-tier.
In fact it was exactly as Fringe
Both:
Season 1 = Unique as fuck and has the perfect tone
Season 2 onwards = waste every resource on some stupid plot line that takes up seasons for no reason
Last season = Oh shit, we only have 10 episodes or so, let's make it good and leave it at that.

Both series turned schlock real fast.
Season 1 was GOD-tier and I occasionally rewatch it.

<<<<<SPOILERS>>>>>

Not really to rule the world, they just want an AI to worship and to bring order to the world.

Wat.

Nobody knows really. It started doing weird shit like creating outbreaks to get everyone's DNA in to a database. Its goals were unpredictable.

They uploaded a virus that killed The Machine and Samaritan (their AI), and in a last ditch effort it was going to upload itself to a satellite. They got the virus on it before it could do this but it had programmed a cruise missile to hit whoever was doing it.

The Machine ended up duplicating itself in the end, so it still exists, but nobody will do anything with it. They left it open for a potential spinoff.

Wat.

I encourage you to watch this show, it was fantastic.

I was so hyped for the episode cause I knew it was the rootshaw reunion. And that there was gonna be a shoot sex scene.

Throughout the episode you also feel that Reese and Harold seems to be out of character , and then THAT REVEAL. I actually thought that there was gonna be a "IS SHAW ACTUALLY SAMARITAN AGENT???" subplot.
>>
>>71578338
They didn't build it. They stole a harddrive that was presumably destroyed with Samaritan on it.

Greer (that guy)'s death was really bad IMO. He kind of jsut killed himself to attempt to kill the creator of the machine. Greer deserved a better death.

Samaritan never turned on them. They worked together well. The main characters got justice, but it was very bittersweet. Not going to lie, I was very close to tears.

But I also thought that he could also really be dead until that moment when Shaw killed herself and before the reveal. It was just too unbelievable that they'd kill two main characters in just one episode.

It was both believable and unbelievable at the same time. I didn't know what to believe.

>>
>>71569510
>Why did she have to die of all characters?
Because

>She never really redeemed herself
Harold once said that John had the heaviest heart of them all, but he was just following orders from his country, root was murdering people for fun and profit and she never paid for it

>She was The Machine's #1 acolyte
I think she would have been totally against Harold's plan to destroy both machines, and even if she went along with it she wouldn't have left John to protect the upload alone, which brings us to:

>She would have sacrificed herself anyway
I don't think root was being facetious when she called The Machine 'God' or told her that they weren't worth dying for, I think she believed it all and would have purposely given up her life at some point in the mission

>It characterised The Machine more
I think the last few episodes wouldn't have had the same emotional depth if all Harold's conversations with The Machine was based on the beeping audio clips voice, it needed a human voice to do that, and it worked perfectly.

>There wasn't a single "Scrappy-Doo" type character in this, they were all lovable as fuck.

>I think the last few episodes wouldn't have had the same emotional depth if all Harold's conversations with The Machine was based on the beeping audio clips voice, it needed a human voice to do that, and it worked perfectly.
I would've had the machine take different voices depending on who it was talking to.

Nathan's voice would be a good choice for Harold.
Carter's voice for John... or maybe Jessica's.
Shaw's for Root (cause in my ideal season 5 Shaw would've been found dead)
Root's for Shaw (for official season 5)
Don't know who would be appropriate for Fusco...

>I don't want a spin-off
I do. I don't like Harper and Joey never made much of an impact on me, but Logan Pierce was my favourite number and I will watch the shit out of this if it ever gets made.
