I've always heard that going from acting in films to acting on television was considered a demotion of sorts. Is that not considered a rule anymore?

>pic related: she just finished up Penny Dreadful and is now in a film where she plays a headmistress

TV used to be consistently lower quality and seen as a lower art form. I don't think that's true anymore, some really great TV has come out and actors have put a lot of effort in it.

TV and movies are less relevant rhan ever.

Yourube videos are getting more views than ever major networks prine time slots COMBINED.

Celebrities are irrelevant. No one, fans and producers, wants half the budget going to s Tom Cruz and his circle of crazies. More millenials recognize PewDPie than Shwarzenager or stalline etc.

Look at GoT, a cadt of literal whis.

Look at Avengers, their only star is washed out soberized RDJ.

It used to be, because movies were where Serious Acting got done.

Nowadays movies are theme park rides and the Serious Drama mostly happens on tv, so that's where Serious Actors are working

The problem is being typecast. If you play the same role for years, you will always be that character.

Real artful drama is done in the form of series now, cinema is all quippy capeshit. It used to be the opposite.
>>
Up until the sopranos yes. After that it made good actors go to tv
>>
>>71543281
>she just finished up Penny Dreadful and is now in a film where she plays a headmistress
That is literally the reverse of
>going from acting in films to acting on television
so I don't know why that particular example should affect your belief of that "rule", rather than someone like Woody Harrelson or Kirsten Dunst who were recognisable film actors who have recently had major television roles.

It used to be the case until Kiefer Sutherland in 24. That was the real game changer, until then film actors were film actors and tv actors did tv and tv was seen as inferior. Then 24 came along with a movie star and crazy high budgets and it all changed and now loads of movie stars try to get starring in a tv show. And being in a show means they can also show off their acting more in a 20hr season compared to a 2hr flick

I think nowadays more and more people are seeing the potential for storytelling in TV compared to movies, where in a series you have 10 hours a year to tell a story in a movie where you have barely 2 because people now have the attention span of a goldfish

Regardless of the quality, or lack thereof, of television shows of today, it's considered a demotion because of how much they get paid. Even the highest paid television actors don't make nowhere near as much as their film actor counterparts.

>>71546643
And yet rarely do you see writers take advantage of the medium of television. Instead what you do see is a bunch of pointless filler, arcs that go nowhere, and poorly developed characters.

> movie where you have barely 2 because people now have the attention span of a goldfish
Actually the typical blockbuster is getting longer on average. It used to be very rare to see a film that was more than 2 and a half hours long, because it would mean less showings and cut into theater owners profits, but now it's quite common.

>YouTube videos are getting more views than ever major networks prine time slots COMBINED
> compare how many YouTube video creators there are versus how many major networks there are and use these numbers to divide their respective viewers good and then use the numbers as an argument you ducking cretin.

The biggest Youtuber will get, what 3million viewers? That's equal to a top rated cult show on cable.

Yes and no.

Her childhood sweetheart died right in front of her in a car accident, so she had a clone of him made and raised him as her son while waiting for him to mature and fawning over him the entire time.

Rules don't apply to qts.
>>
>>71543281

not since cinema became 80% capeshit, vidyashit and adam sandler-tier comedies

almost all the quality drama is on TV now

Yes it was for a time, until most prominently HBO started doing high-quality series. With the end of the 90's more and more high-quality shows appeared so that today one could even say that it switched. You see awfull talent in holywood productions (capeshit, spyshit, murricashit) than in television productions (Wire, Rome, GoT, Oz etc.)

The film business hides all sorts of tax and money funnelling shenanigans for rich people. Look at Adam Sandler. His movies are basically scams, but they manage to make bank for all his buddies.
