Both Manga and Anime have good endings, I actually cried in the YYH anime last episode, I also wished the characters too be better explored than Batttle Shonen, Togashi wanted to deconstruct the characters and he did by final arc.
YYH is the most emotional battle shonen Anime, it actually subverts some of the tropes of the genre.

The Genkai tourny quickly showed everything wrong with the show. Sure a character can have plot armor to survive shit, but the amount of asspulls Yuskai got to win, but win every one of his matches was mind numbing.
>First match is in total darkness, and the opponent trains in that type of environment giving him the advantage. Except Yuskai lucky finds a lit cigarette on the ground to mark his opponent and one shot him.
>Second opponent sends homing energy balls after him and while doing a suicide attack after figuring he can't dodge them indefinitely, he does an instant transmission disappear trick causing the energy balls to hit his oppoent knocking him out. Ends up he didn't vanishing, he feel into a pond water, nevermind the fact everyone was watching him and it looked like he instantly vanished all at once and didn't fall into water and the attack didn't follow him into the water.
>Third opponent uses a magic chant to shrink opponents, but through MORE dumb luck, Yusuke gets some moss stuck in his ears so he can't hear it. And if the person you use the chant on can't hears it, the magic then affects the caster shrinking him instead.
Seriously, I hope the artist who wrote this had a stroke from how horrible the writing is.

Buy the Hardcover Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin books. They're fucking amazing and the nicest part of my collection. It's a faithful re-imagining of the first series but it basically takes all of those little nitpicky mistakes that are inherent to any tv series like poor characterization early in the narrative or underdeveloped parts of the world, cultures and technology and fleshes them out. B-characters get actual personalities and motivations, main characters get developed in new ways and the plot is more streamlined.

The only thing I can say negatively about it that i didn't really notice as a kid was that the whole thing is just fight to fight to fight with little to almost no time in between, which when you actually grow fond of the characters kind of sucks because you'd like to see more of them just chilling out instead of screaming and bleeding.
