I wait until it is either in the bargain bin or someone gives it to me as a gift. I very rarely every buy anything at full price.
If it's a movie I am indeed interested in I'll watch on the movie theatres. If not I'll pirate and watch it when it comes out in dvd, in case the movie seems to be worth a watch.

If it's a new movie, I'll go see it in theatres if it's talked about on /tv/ but usually only if it's an original movie.
If a movie came out on blu ray, I'll pirate it and if I really enjoyed it, I'm more likely to buy it eventually.
I don't really ever wait for a movie to come out on sites though, if I really wanted to see it, I'd go see it.

I combo of seeing it in theaters and downloading it when an actual release comes out. I do occasionally buy a bluray of a movie I really liked.
