It may be because the timeline is out of place, but I would argue that that is poor storytelling, especially as there is no indication of this, and no way for the audience to know that things are not happening at the same time. Either that, or people are overthinking it an D&D just move people to wherever is convenient at any given time.
And the White Walkers have been preparing for years, possibly centuries, possibly milleniums, to bring death to Westeros. If they plan on doing the attack now, I would think they likely have a soultion for the Wall

Cutting away from Ned's beheading was respectful, but you could clearly see the sword was about to go through his neck. Where Stannis tells Brienne to do her duty, then it just cuts away. No closure, no nothing. At least show the body.

Jon had 2000 to fight Ramsay, most of them are dead.
He gets a couple thousand more from the forces of the other Northern houses, but the only ones with any real strength are likely to be the Manderleys. The other big northern houses were The Boltons, the Umbers and the Karstarks, and they all died with Ramsay, so maybe Jon nets another 5,000 men from the Glovers and Manderleys, etc.
Littlefinger and Bronze Yohn rode north with all the Vale's heavy cavalry, a couple thousand men tops. The vale is the smallest of the seven kingdoms and there's no way they can field anywhere near 50,000 soldiers.
As for the riverlands, there are no forces left there. Everyone's already been killed.
Jon is lucky if he has 15,000 men, and most of those are going to be from the Vale.
