Watched Theatrical cut like three times. Loved it
Just watched UE, it's made me think this is just a bad film.
Go to cliche for people defending this - Oh, the Africa stuff makes sooo much sense now, Lex's plans are much better explained.
Take that soggy blanket corner out of your mouths you fucking Story loving babbies. The cinematic cut was kino because the spoon feeding was pretty much gone, but there was still logic to the sequence overall.
One of the worst things in the original was the Africa / CIA mcguffin sttuff. Every time I've watched this I noticed the film flatlined for these scenes. Now there's more of it, and all it does is confirm what engaged viewers had filled in anyway.
UE is slow, it felt like a whole other film had elapsed before we even got to the fight. In the cinematic cut the fight arrives at the right time. Now it arrives after you've had a good nap.

But overall, the Africa / Lois stuff absolutely murdered the original cut, and it buries the new cut. They should have got Lois off screen, and focused on the main characters.
Why the fuck did we need Africa? The setup with the mass casualties from the last film was enough to cast all the aspersions at Superman, introduce the senate stuff, Lex could have tinkered around the edges of that and they would have had a two hour cut.
I don't blame Snyder, I think he's the best. But something went badly wrong here.

This is guaranteed precisely what happened. Snyder is great with women too, so this is doubly frustrating. You could have pushed her completely off screen and she wouldn't have minded, because Snyder inspires absolute devotion from his female casts - just look at the interviews for Sucker Punch and this is apparent.
Also frustrating because MoS ended with Lois knowing Clarke's alter ego, which was one of the nicest surprises with the film. They covered enough ground between them in MoS to be able to let the field lie fallow for a movie, but no - lawyers and shekels.

My most prized blu-ray is Once Upon A Time in America, I dont think this is anything to do with time. The Africa plot line is what killed this film. Search your feelings, you know it's fucking true.

The choppy nature of the original was actually a saving grace, because you kind of surrender to it early because the film is holding your interest.
The UE works against this in terrible ways. Perfect example - there's thirty minutes on Lex's clock, giving Gal Gadot time to leave a building, get a cab, fold a chemise in her apartment, check all her e-mail, get to the airport, go through customs, get on a plane. In the original cut that didn't bother me, in the extended cut it goes from being an irritating hang nail to a fucking travesty of plotting.

Superman actually does something heroic and this is the first we seen of him after Metropolis. He still shows his disregard for the government and everyone besides Lois. Like he still leaves her in this warzone after he kills the General.
We understand Lex's plans more but it's still a hackjob.

So it turns out Lex paid her off and decided not to kill her immediately. Mother Africa actually went and confessed to Senator Finch right before the senate hearing where Lex blew everything up and simultaneously had the Russian guy kill her. So what the fuck was the point of any of this? Why not kill the Princess of the Congo right after she framed Superman so she can't confess to Senator Finch? Did he blow up the Senate because he couldn't kill the Black bitch and didn't want Finch to expose him? No because he had the wheelchair rigged to explode the whole time. The only thing Lex did by blowing up congress was have Superman save injured people.
The writing is still shit but at least it shows Superman being Superman yet he's doing everything begrudgingly. Like he's conflicted about saving people.

The Flash warning was not a dream, it was Flash traveling through time to warn Bruce, and you can see him struggling to stay in the past/present, when he gets sucked back to whatever future, time reverses by a few seconds to Bruce is once again asleep but he retains the memory of the conversation.

I never watched the original cut but I just watched the Ultimate edition for the first time and it was surprisingly very good.
I'm not a huge DC fan and I hated Man of Steel but this was one of Snyder's best. The only thing that really irked me is that whole "Martha" thing, that was ridiculous. But otherwise, i'm pleasantly surprised.

Most of the complaints are just from people that say batman should not be killing. Which is absolutely stupid, I understand batman for a long time has had a no kill rule but throughout this movie it has been implied that the brutality of batman is a recent development (the powerlessness turns men cruel speech, the news articles about the brandings) so I dont think its exactly out of character. With that said I enjoyed his story and his arc from someone who lost all hope to someone that believe theres still good in men, I believe the next few movies you will see a less brutal batman.
