Good luck, Harry Potter.

Good luck spending the formative years of your life in an abusive household where you're treated like a servant. I'm sure this won't have a negative affect on you and cause you to bring a gun to school one day. Just as long as it isn't Hogwarts.

This is much better than growing up rich and famous.

Harry was directly responsible for the death of a powerful and beloved leader of a cult of murderous wizards.

Being famous (ie easy to find) is the last thing he wants. Some death eater would murder him for revenge.

He was better off hidden away, even if it meant sleeping under a stairwell.

Honestly, it wasn't even that bad of a living situation. The only "abuse" he suffered was neglect and having to do chores. They didn't beat him or rape him, and although they preferred their own child they still seemed legitimately concerned about the well-being and future of Harry.

that's not how the movies portrayed it

"Let's lock our adoptive son under the stairs, treat him like a dog and potentially ruin his fragile child's mind."
"Why?"
"Because his dad was weird and owed me $20 when he died or something idk."

Were they rude to Harry? Yes.

Did they neglect him? Yes.

Did they always take Dudley's side against Harry? Yes.

Did they have him do a lot of housework? Yes.

But they did feed him, they did house him, they did keep him healthy, they made sure he went to school, they didn't molest him, they didn't physically assault him, and they tried to protect him from the wizard world they hated.

They were legitimately better than most real life foster homes. At the end of the day, even if the Dursleys didn't like Harry or what he represented, they still did their duty and kept him safe.

What in fucks name did you expect, kid? Harry Potter is easily one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the seriesüf only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but itüfs certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books are g-g-good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
